Sarah, Reggie, and Carver (Spoilers, obviously)

Not sure if I still should warn for S2 spoilers, but just in case...

Anyway, I'm replaying the series and I'm noticing different details that I hadn't before. For instance, right after Reggie's death, and Carver tells Clem to leave, he goes over and talks with Sarah. I'd really, really love to know what they discussed. It almost looks like he's consoling her, with how close he is to her, but given that a couple scenes back he was criticizing Carlos for doing that very thing, I doubt it.

I wish the game gave us the option to talk to Sarah after that traumatic event, or to inquire about the Carver thing, but of course we don't. We're forced away from her so there's no chance for coddling, tough love, or... anything.

Then again, I think ep3 is where her character really went downhill. Not just, like, with what happened, but how she was written. For instance, the first at Howe's, after Carlos is taken away and she begins to whine, you can tell her to 'Grow up'. She responds with something like 'I won't get in trouble. I never do.' Granted, that's just one more sign of how terrible a father Carlos is (hell, even Clem calls him out somehwat in the previous ep), but it just paints Sarah as this elitist princess. Another reply she has is something like 'I'm older than you. You're just a little kid. You can't talk to me like that.' Ick.

  • I only really liked sarah after episode 3, in episode 1 and 2 I found her creepy and annoying. I at least felt sorry for her after episode 3

  • Huh. Interesting.

I was kinda interested for the wrong reasons in episode 1, where I didn't dislike her, but the red flags she raised, combined with some very suspicious foreshadowing, had me creeped out. Of course, Episode 2 made her very endearing, where her creepiness and being a fucking chatterbox served to underscore her sweet nature and implied desire for self-improvement, making her a fairly complex likable character.

Yeah, this is one of those things I really thought would go somewhere. To the point where seeing Carver putting a hand on Sarah's shoulder while tilting his head in that sort of "Just between you and me" type of way was the moment I officially confirmed "This is it. This is where ''Sarah's Corruption" begins." But that's an issue I'll go into another day. . .

That scene is a perfect example of yet another wasted opportunity in an already bare bones episode, if I'm being honest.

    Yeah, I noticed that too.

I hate to admit it, but I initially thought one of the only true redeeming qualities about him was how he treated Clementine and Sarah. While Clementine is basically him stroking his ego and he can/will hurt her when the opportunity to retaliate presents itself, it seemed like he was genuinely concerned about Sarah at times, to the point of briefly hesitating while torturing Carlos and taking her yelling at him in relative stride considering his ego. The fact that him ordering Carlos to smack her could've/can be interpreted as him teaching her discipline because Carlos certainly hasn't could've been plausible had he actually been a greyer/grayer character. It's also worth noting that while she is very submissive to Carlos to the point of showing fear when she feels like he could get angry, she isn't that afraid of Carver unless he's specifically out to hurt someone. Take that as you will.

I just convinced myself it was probably more of a coincidence, though, since Sarah is one of my favorite characters. And Carver is not.

1.Eeeh, [imagine gif of wiggling hand in agreement/disagreement] debatable. The point of that episode was to force Sarah into a scenario where she isn't being babied and actually given the "opportunity" to contribute to a group/community...under Carver's jurisdiction. It was basically building up her breakdown at the end of the episode so that her character arc can really get the meat of the story it needed to tell: breaking her down so it can build her back up stronger than ever. And the meat was outstanding--its closure (or lackthereof) was the sloppiest in my high opinion--but the meat was outstanding! ...Just not amazing, as it should've been.
2.I knew I heard her say that at some point. Thank you!
3.It's worth noting that Sarah is indeed Hebrew for princess.
4.Yeah, she legitimately scared me on my second playthrough with that. It's like "Holy shit, where the hell did this come from? What, did I hit a *nerve *or something?"

Though, if I'm being honest, I actually kinda like that she isn't just Miss-sweet-yet-dopey-princess all the time and is perfectly capable of being a snippy when she's pushed. Plus, that is tapping on something or another that I would've liked to have seen explored a bit from Sarah and maybe Nick's perspective...

  • Let's be freinds... best freinds... swear it... freeeiiinnndsss stare. lol I kinda got a creepy vibe from her too, but still liked her.

  • I didn't think she was creepy, I just sort of felt bad for her.

Also, while we're on the subject (sort of), why did Carlos get angry at Sarah for taking pictures..?

  • Because Carver saw it and it removed any doubt he might've had that the Cabin Group were staying there, even though he already saw plenty of evidence?

  • Well, she was reading a book about brain snatchers. And she suddenly decided she and Clementine are friends just because they're both girls. And the fact that she's noticeably taller than Clementine in a relatively close distance of a dark room of a house Clementine shouldn't even be in. And she got very insistent about it, to the point of saying trust is why they should be friends. And of course, dat raepface.

Again, while I never disliked Sarah, she was raising a lot of red flags in the first episode. Even though Clementine was supposed to be the one raising red flags.

  • But he didn't ask how he saw it, he yelled at her for taking the pictures, which should be perfectly fine.

  • I think his point was her taking pictures inadvertently gave Carver a clue, which may not have been the case(he lied) had she not.
