Nice video dude
As far as how you said that Clementine's personality change wasn't explained. Well the only explanation we really need for that is that they have been living in a post apocalyptic world for over a year and a half. There isn't a need to give us exact details (such as all the people they have seen killed during that time or all the people who have tried to rob or kill them). All that can just be assumed based on the fact that they have been living in the apocalypse for as long as they have.
Oh, I actually got replies to this thread.
@DericDTG
Thanks.
@sony12
I don't really agree with this because it seems like a lazy excuse for the writers to have Clementine act however they want. To give something to compare it to, imagine if the original Star Wars trilogy had no Empire Strikes Back. We would see Luke Skywalker go from being a wimpy farmboy, to a badass Jedi knight with no character development in between. I don't think it's enough for us to know that he underwent Jedi training, we needed to see it for ourselves. This is something I'll probably mention in my videos at some point, and I'll give some more clarity on it in general later on.
Your video..wow, you really just miss the entire point of Clementine in season two. You complain that she comes off as jaded and cynical. These are of course players choice as the 16 month gap is left to your imagination. You know that they have been living hard and that the baby was lost. Also just by the way Christa looks at Clementine, there is an emotional gulf that developed because of Omid. If you do not understand how someone's view on life can become jaded...I dunno what to tell you. Also it is worth noting that this level of emotional neglect and rough living is what separates Clementine from people like Sarah who are protected too much.
You also complain about how she stitches herself up, implying that an 11 year old would not have that ability. This is of course a foolish view of someone who seeming insists on putting modern society's norms to a friggen zombie apocalypse.
The cabin group. In your video you claim all of them come off as unlikable except for Pete and Luke(bland). Though their suspicion of you is justified given they are being hunted.
Carlos can't tell if it is a dog bite or walker bite...this is a nitpick as it is believable that a walker could leave a pretty jagged bite.
Clementine gathering materials...videogame trope...Though yes I agree it should have been harder with restarting till you got it right.
Clementine being mean is justified in several instances...Bekka..the shed..Nick. when I played I was nice to Alvin, you can always spot the soft hearted ones...apologetic to Carlos...he was only protecting Sarah..and yeah we played Sarah for the peroxide.
The interview...This was the cabin group finding out about Clementine...she at this point still has not earned their trust..so no I am not inclined to think we should learn everything about them in episode one. We do learn that Nick lost his mom to a person who had been bit. We hear the name Carver several times and we know that they are on the run. This is as much info as we need for episode one in regards to the cabin crew's motives.
I will review each of your reviews...pointing out things, but when you have a valid point I will back your point. This episode though seems to fall in nitpicking and frustration that things were not spelled out.
thats when bad writing starts. Just assume and not elaborate/detail.
I liked your review, but just know many will mix criticism with ignorance. Lol I'm used to it.
Video number two is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNWrxiadl0c
This video took awhile to make because I had to record episode 2 twice, get footage of season 1, and had some real life distractions as well.
I might not personally agree with everything you've said, but I can respect the effort you're putting into these. I respect a person that's brutally honest about how they feel, no matter how harsh it might sound to other people.
And on that note, I really want to see how your episode 4 review turns out. You're going to have a field day with that one.
You finally helped me realize why I never really got into Nick and, ironically enough, also made me appreciate him.
Totally agree on Sarah's interaction with Clementine, though.
How's part 3 coming along?
I thought Omid dying for Clementine's mistake and Christa losing her baby and living all alone with Christa was just enough to explain plus she's a pre-teen now so.
Really surprised to see people taking an interest in this. I'm currently in the audio editing process for episode 3. After tomorrow I should be free of all in real life distractions, and I can start making the videos more quickly. I can't guarantee anything, but I should have it out before next weekend.
I could believe that, if it was shown or told to us in some way. The timeskip, plus Christa getting killed off too quickly doesn't really allow us to see what the relationship between them was like. I'll elaborate on this more in a later video.
Yeah, I know how that is. Good luck, man!
Well I tried to get the next video out before the weekend. I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Here's the new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpx75074tJg
Nice to have ya back, dude!
Coincidentally, I've also been on a series of (text based) reviews on my first impressions on each episode and episode 3 has been holding me up for three weeks now.
EDIT:Wow! You pointed out most of the problems I have with the episode and then some! Good job!
Good luck on the next episode! {ugh}
I hadn't left a comment yet, but I have been enjoying all of your reviews so far. You don't hold back in expressing your opinions, which is something that I find to be pretty refreshing. Obviously I haven't agreed with all of your points, (wasn't and shouldn't expect to) but I do find myself nodding my head in agreement during certain parts. I hadn't seen the "Kenny Vs. Carver" scene receive as much criticism as certain other choices, and I'm glad you brought it up. I actually did stay to watch with the thought that I'd be given the option to convince Kenny to put down the crowbar. And uh...we all know how that worked out. Sadist Clem for president 2016! Anyways, you can tell a lot of thought goes into each review. Keep up the good work and good luck with Amid the Ruins!
The episode 4 review will just be him making retching sounds for 20 minutes
Either that or the sound of a new asshole being torn.
I want to refute one small point in episode 3; the walkers breaking into the store after Kenny and Mike were fighting.
The walkers actually broke through in a section that was beyond the wall. The window they broke through is on the other side of that wall. It's not very easy to tell, but pay close enough attention and you can see.
Here's three shots-- straight from the map meshes for the area-- showing the window where the walkers break in.
As you can see, it's the window right next to the wall. If you look back at your own footage, you can just barely see part of the broken window just beyond the wall (middle left):
Huh. Whaddya know.
Wow! You pointed out most of the problems I have with the episode and then some! Good job!
A little surprised you didn't comment on things like Kenny's screentime or Rebecca's part in the plot, but I guess those are kinda obvious. Loved your observations on Clementine, Carver, and Carlos's characters, though.
The funny thing is I do consider this to be the weakest episode of the Season, but I am very curious about the tone of your future installments.
How about that. It's funny, when I was editing my footage I noticed that the walls disappear when the walkers break into the store, so I thought it was an inconsistency. Looks like the scene's not as forced as I thought. Thanks for pointing this out to me.
Don't worry, Kenny and Rebecca will definitely receive more mention in the next video.
[backs away slowly]
Hey, I didn't say whose asshole it was!
Glad I'm not feeling creative.
I do have to say one thing that has made it difficult for me to respect your opinions on this is the fact that in the very first video you said you really enjoyed the game in your playthrough but it was only after seeing what others said about it that your opinion started to change. I have a feeling you may have allowed public opinion to shape your feelings of this game instead of you yourself shaping them. Nothing wrong with being interested in seeing what others are saying about things but you yourself should be the only one that decides rather you like something or not.
I can go both ways. Someone might really love something the first time they experience it, but it isn't until having conversations with others on certain points that they notice some major flaws in it. For example, I was kinda always positively neutral concerning Kenny back before I played Season 2 back in June and I was relatively okay with most of the stuff he brought to it. However, it wasn't until months of examining the story top to bottom and having a few things pointed out to me that I actually began to agree that the superfluous focus on his character came out the cost of actually telling the story that was expected and established in a well-rounded manner.
I understand what you're saying. While part of my opinions on this game may be based off of what others think about it, I don't agree with everything everyone has to say about it. I liked Season 2 at first because I didn't notice it's flaws, but after discussing it with others I began to notice more and more how flawed it was. This changed what I thought of the game, but ultimately my opinions on it are still my opinions. It's not so much basing what I think off of what others think, it's more like adding what others think to what I already think, and changing opinions I already have to match other people's thoughts if I agree with them.
Yes but the problem is that it is very common for people to trash sequels on social media boards simply because it is not the same game. Sequels very seldom give you the same feeling as the originals do no matter how good they are.
A lot of the complaining I have seen about the game is that it doesn't have the same personality as the first and the characters all seem like a shell of themselves. Well the game shouldn't have the same type of personality as the first and the characters all should be a shell of themselves because they have been surviving in an apocalypse for two years.
Uh, somewhat I guess.
...Huh?
It's late, but my new video is out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eowIRHzQNI
Word of warning, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first video in my series that gets dislikes.
Oh, cripes! Here we go!
[Goes to watch it]
So I'm guessing episode 5 is what you consider the weakest (and that's probably putting it lightly), and you're going to tear it to absolute shreds in what will probably be the most vitriolic part of your critique
Or maybe you'll throw everyone a curveball, and reveal that you really liked episode 5 and have nothing negative to say about it
You have no idea how cathartic it is to hear someone else both point out how this episode did things right and how it absolutely fucked up in places! While I agree this isn't the weakest episode(3), this is objectively the worst in my opinion from a storytelling standpoint due to a lot of the choices.
Agree completely about Kenny's screentime. This episode demonstrates one variation how he should have been utilized throughout the Season.
About Clementine and the ticket booth...yeah...not to get too specific here,... but let's just say you're not the only one I've seen point that out. Although it does make Bonnie's speech in the next episode hilarious/harsher in hindsight....
I didn't recall the variation if you go after Mike and Bonnie first or the fact that 400 Days wasn't really brought up with her. Everyday's a school day.
Nick's death is explained by Luke when you first arrive at the trailer. On the other characters reaction, its far worse with Sarah.
Oh, Sarah...how I want to NOT go into yet another rant here. I'll simplify it down to pointing out that my initial point applies to her the most and her "canon" death fails for several of the reasons you mention and then some. It really hurt the episode and the story in general more than anything.
Technically, Arvo does recognize that Clementine isn't as bad as Jane if you didn't medicine and that scene has a few variations to it. But I sorta get the idea of why people are very particular of that scene.
For the sake of my upcoming review I watched the ending where Clementine saves Jane for the first time on YouTube, and I have a question about it. Is there any determinant dialogue that confirms that Jane wanted Clementine to herself because she thought of Clem as a replacement for her dead sister or because she felt bad about Jamie and wanted to make up for it or something?
I don't think so, at least. Should you consider her actions reprehensible and leave her, she says something about needing Clementine. Been forever since my first playthrough, though. But no, I don't think Jaime actually gets brought up past fixing the truck.
That's actually one of my major issues with Jane and the last two episodes in general.
Nope. No dialogue of that sort from Jane.
Okay, thanks guys.
