Honesty with Negans cringe lines and stance, the … moredeath scenes were more funny than gut wrenching. I was hoping that my stomach would feel sick after watching them die (Like how I felt when Hershel died or when Glenn fell off the dumpster) but unfortunately I was left thinking "that could have been done exponentially better."

The suspense was incredible thought the entire episode, even at moments that did drag a little.
I think the reveal of the cliffhanger was appropriate, but then again I was among the rare few that didn't mind the cliffhanger. Honestly? It's a show tactic, and I can't blame them for using it. Revealing it in the premiere guarantees viewers will tune in, and delaying it a little makes sure they will stay for most of the episode rather than just leaving once they know who is dead.

Daryl getting Glenn killed. Now I am far from a Daryl fan girl, and am not out to defend him. However Daryl lashing out like that reminds me more of rash season 1 Daryl than collected season 6 Daryl. I felt like the writers had to do some backwards thinking to contrive a way to justify Glenn's death and Daryl's capture.
The gore was quite over-the-top unnecessary. I understand the need to show the gore of Glenn and Abe's death, sure, and I can stomach that too since I watch Game of Thrones (though honestly I didn't watch all of Glenn's death because to my annoyance my mom decided she needed to shield my eyes, even though I am a nearly 23-year-old woman). But the zombie gore Rick has to deal I could have gone without.
Writers said they felt like Daryl and Abe were most likely to interrupt due to their personalities when writing the ep more than a year ago (They planned this scene for 2 years starting when they were told the show was making it past 7 seasons). I believe it was Scott who decided that Daryl 'wouldn't contain himself watching Negan. I believe they also needed him to impress Negan to be taken to be trained and kickstart what might be his arc for this season.

I think I can understand where they're coming from. When you see something that brutal and you're not used to it, or maybe experienced some … morehorrible stuff where you've seen people hurt or suffer, then something like that it can put you off a show, even if it's just for a while.
For me, I'm not going to watch the episode, at least the bat to the head business. I think it'd be too much for me too. I like dark themes, but I have my limits when it comes to senseless violence XD and before you say it, I don't like watching Game of Thrones.

Overall, that was a damn fine premiere. JDM is just perfect as Negan isn't he? Maybe he's not as physically imposing as his comic counterpart, but he's got his personality and aura spot on. Kudos to Andrew Lincoln for his performance as well, he just keeps getting better and better. This is exactly what was needed for the TV show though. That group has been a bunch of invincible superheroes for far too long. It's high time Negan brought them (and by extension, the viewers) back down to earth. I hope the writers realize that by placing the characters in clear mortal danger, the more invested the viewers become. Simple equation really.

seriously why is everyone all super sensitive over the brutal deaths? its basically the same shit with Sansa's rape in S5, just cause it happened to a character we love, they outrage. and am i the only one that doesnt think that this shit was that brutal? Red Wedding was far more fucking brutal, Hardhome was a littel harder to watch and Battle of the Bastards was definitively harder to watch. oh Shireens death was DEFINITIVELY 1000 TIMES far more harder to watch. this is isnt over the top. you want over the top in TWD? watch Noah's death, that was too much. damn near unnecessary to show. imo. and of course its bleak, its the end of "our world". real life is just as fucked probably even more so.
