Waited 8 months for the episode but they still manages to drag it out 40 more minutes.
Honesty with Negans cringe lines and stance, the … moredeath scenes were more funny than gut wrenching. I was hoping that my stomach would feel sick after watching them die (Like how I felt when Hershel died or when Glenn fell off the dumpster) but unfortunately I was left thinking "that could have been done exponentially better."
The episode was hyped way too much for what we got.

The acting in this episode was incredibly well done, especially by Andrew Lincoln. It really helped in delivering an intense emotional impact.
The suspense was incredible thought the entire episode, even at moments that did drag a little.
I think the reveal of the cliffhanger was appropriate, but then again I was among the rare few that didn't mind the cliffhanger. Honestly? It's a show tactic, and I can't blame them for using it. Revealing it in the premiere guarantees viewers will tune in, and delaying it a little makes sure they will stay for most of the episode rather than just leaving once they know who is dead.
Cons:
Daryl getting Glenn killed. Now I am far from a Daryl fan girl, and am not out to defend him. However Daryl lashing out like that reminds me more of rash season 1 Daryl than collected season 6 Daryl. I felt like the writers had to do some backwards thinking to contrive a way to justify Glenn's death and Daryl's capture.
The gore was quite over-the-top unnecessary. I understand the need to show the gore of Glenn and Abe's death, sure, and I can stomach that too since I watch Game of Thrones (though honestly I didn't watch all of Glenn's death because to my annoyance my mom decided she needed to shield my eyes, even though I am a nearly 23-year-old woman). But the zombie gore Rick has to deal I could have gone without.
Writers said they felt like Daryl and Abe were most likely to interrupt due to their personalities when writing the ep more than a year ago (They planned this scene for 2 years starting when they were told the show was making it past 7 seasons). I believe it was Scott who decided that Daryl 'wouldn't contain himself watching Negan. I believe they also needed him to impress Negan to be taken to be trained and kickstart what might be his arc for this season.

Everyone else loved it so that means I should love it too? Because my opinion is in the minority it means I'm a troll? You do realize that more than half of your opinions are in the minority too right. Making you a troll as well.
I major in digital art/filming so maybe that's why I saw the episode's flaws.
Eh, I agree that while Abe and Daryl are the most likely to lash out, I don't think Daryl would blatantly ignore the danger everyone was in to fulfill an impulse. Maybe if it were Carol being bullied, but I didn't think his connection to Rosita was strong enough to warrant that reaction. I dunno, maybe that's just me.

Going as far as saying that the writers and producers have ruined the show as if it were a fact, just because they cannot handle the gore, is senseless, in my opinion.
I think I can understand where they're coming from. When you see something that brutal and you're not used to it, or maybe experienced some … morehorrible stuff where you've seen people hurt or suffer, then something like that it can put you off a show, even if it's just for a while.
For me, I'm not going to watch the episode, at least the bat to the head business. I think it'd be too much for me too. I like dark themes, but I have my limits when it comes to senseless violence XD and before you say it, I don't like watching Game of Thrones.
Rick hopping onto the hanged walker. Yeah, that was... I mean, shit, that was really lucky of him.
The scene where Negan made Rick think he was gonna cut off Carl's hand. Pretty pointless scene when there were no results. Rick cutting off his own son's hand would be a pretty dramatic scene and they could do really interesting results with it, in my eyes.
Also, RIP Glenn and Abraham. Seriously didn't think they were gonna kill off Glenn, despite having his comic death there. I figured he was safe for a bit, since the whole dumpster shit in the previous season.

I loved the premiere, despite how heartbroken I was watching Glenn and Abraham take the bat. I read the comics, but it still caught me off-guard when Negan struck Glenn. The acting from everyone was phenomenal but Andrew Lincoln and Jeffrey Dean Morgan really stood out, especially the scene where he was trying to get Rick to chop off Carl's arm. The tension never broke throughout the episode and all in all I'd give it about a 9/10. The biggest flaw was them stretching out who died by showing what was going on after first.

Why couldn't they show Abraham's death in the finale of season 6 and really catch everyone cold by killing Glenn in the premiere of season 7 if they committed to killing 2 characters? That would have been a much better solution to the awful cliffhanger, keep the Negan breaking Rick story of this episode and heighten the impact of Glenn's death.
Overall, that was a damn fine premiere. JDM is just perfect as Negan isn't he? Maybe he's not as physically imposing as his comic counterpart, but he's got his personality and aura spot on. Kudos to Andrew Lincoln for his performance as well, he just keeps getting better and better. This is exactly what was needed for the TV show though. That group has been a bunch of invincible superheroes for far too long. It's high time Negan brought them (and by extension, the viewers) back down to earth. I hope the writers realize that by placing the characters in clear mortal danger, the more invested the viewers become. Simple equation really.

The point of the scene was to completely break Rick. Negan killed two of his friends. Didn't break him. Close but didn't. Throwing him into a group of walkers and basically making him his bitch. Again close but no dice. Forcing Rick to cut off his sons arm for the sake of the group and the communities? That did it.
Pretty great episode, I only have two dislikes.

Andrew Lincoln's performance should get him an emmy.
JDM is perfect as Negan.
there was two walker deaths that were fucking gross
TV's censorship is still dog shit
*anyone catch Abe giving sasha one final peace sign?
*RIP Abe and Glenn.
*Glenn's last name was Rhee? wtf.
seriously why is everyone all super sensitive over the brutal deaths? its basically the same shit with Sansa's rape in S5, just cause it happened to a character we love, they outrage. and am i the only one that doesnt think that this shit was that brutal? Red Wedding was far more fucking brutal, Hardhome was a littel harder to watch and Battle of the Bastards was definitively harder to watch. oh Shireens death was DEFINITIVELY 1000 TIMES far more harder to watch. this is isnt over the top. you want over the top in TWD? watch Noah's death, that was too much. damn near unnecessary to show. imo. and of course its bleak, its the end of "our world". real life is just as fucked probably even more so.

The episode was great even though the characters chosen were to predictable. I mean they always gotta make Daryl look like a badass and get away with everything he does wrong. He could've gotten the entire group killed because of that punch to Negan's jaw. I think Maggie will blame Daryl for Glenn's death and also Rick might be upset for a while with Daryl for getting the person he was with the longest in the zombie apocalypse killed. Comicbook Rick begins to turn into an asshole during this point in the story so who knows what Rick will do to Daryl if he makes it back from Negan's compound. I mentioned that Daryl will get the iron in a previous post. However I think Negan will make him sing you are my sunshine. (People who read the comics know what I am talking about) hopefully Negan gets lots of screen time he is very charismatic!!! lol

then you film a better episode if you think it could be better.

I probably could.
I have a feeling that Daryl might be the one who SPOILER become the leader of the Saviors instead of Dwight.

I'm not sure about that. We might see. Also please add the word SPOILERS to the comment many people don't read the comics here.
Give me the money and I could too.
I thought it was good. The only part that really got me going was when they were going to cut off Carls arm.
Thank you
You didn't suffer the deaths?
Damn that was amazing
RIP Glenn. You will be missed.

I agree. That was pretty annoying to me. I was ready to google who died if they drug it out any longer.
They're not doing a good job at recognizing that what they think in this point in time is not the irrefutable truth.

"suck my nuts" - Sgt. Abraham Ford. RIP
sigh double post
Well I just think it was the combined that he just lost a member of his post apocalyptic family and that Negan was torturing someone.

Right. That reminds me, Andrew Lincoln is a damn good actor.
Yep last peace sign hit me .
I hoped you'd have edited it out by now.
You know this actually made me think of how telltale would do a determinant death for Abraham. Comic or Show? It seems like a tough choice.
"Rick, go get my axe."
Am I the only one that can't stop laughing at this quote?
i didnt noticed until someone pointed it later... that shit hit me
