What jobs do you think the characters held before the outbreak?

I'm going to list the characters' professions that were mentioned in the games to avoid confusion and for the benefit of those who may not know. Tell me if I forgot anyone.

  • Carley: news reporter

  • Carlos: doctor (type?)

  • Katjaa: veterinarian

  • Kenny: commercial fisherman

  • Larry: military career

  • Lee: history professor

  • Lilly: Air Force mechanic

  • Luke: small business co-owner with Nick, college graduate in art and agriculture

  • Mark: military career

  • Nick: small business co-owner with Luke

Now what about other characters like Pete, Carver, Jane, Sarita, the 400 Days people, etc... What might they have done for a living before the apocalypse? (Realise this is hypothetical and just for fun!)

Comments

  • I feel like Pete would have been a hunter. Carver was a natural born leader/dictator so I assume he had some job with power, like a head director of some sorts. Jane was agile and seemed to have the apocalypse all but sorted out so she must have had some job that had a lot of training. Maybe some kind of military career? Short hair, quick on her feet, abrasive personality. Sarita strikes me as a kindergarten teacher. Idk just her kind heartedness and the way she interacted with Sarah, (Sarah had the mind of a kindergartener. KIDDING JEEZ) :p

  • Carver was mentioned by Bonnie to have been "an engineer of some sort," in an unused line for "In Harm's Way" that I suppose we can consider canon.

Regardless of his job, I definitely believe that he was in a position of leadership due to his innate ability to both inspire others to work toward a common goal and also to orchestrate the functioning of his Howe's Hardware.

  • I like to imagine that Carver is probably the reason Howe's even has power. I could totally see him being a former engineer that figured out how to run the wires and get the power going for the place, then he decided he could fortify it, too.

  • Really now? That's...actually kinda interesting.

This might sound like a ridiculous one, but for some reason, I could see Nick being an electrician. Why? I honestly have no idea. If not that, he'd probably work at a gas station or a car wash or something.

Jane would have something relatively generic, like a retail job. Given her loner personality, it seems like she'd want a job where she doesn't really have to interact with other people too much. Working retail as someone that moves stuff around seems right up her alley. Just putting price tags on shit and organizing shelves, staying out of the way of other people.

Luke strikes me as a guy that can't really hold down a single job, so he just does odd-jobs around town; a brief store clerk here, a stint as a farmhand there, working at a coffee shop over there, and so on.

Eddie from 400 Days would be the guy that works at a tattoo parlor, or some kind of electronics store.

Wyatt would work at a comic store or something.

That's about all I can really think of at the moment.

    You're right--That does sound ridiculous.

You know what, that sounds about right.

    Meh.

I feel like Shel had prior experience with taking care of smaller lifeforms, likely from volunteering at a pet shelter or something.

  • I can see that.
