Molly : Wasted or Fulfilled ?
We all know Molly was a important character in Around Every Corner. She was strong minded, physically strong for her size, had her own rules and morals, good back story, showed a soft side of still caring for people before leaving, and all the qualities of being a big character. Question is : was she a wasted character that could've went onto bigger things? Or was she destined just for the one episode that defined her life struggles and her means for revenge?
Im torn on both sides.
Wasted because given how much potential she had, she could've been a really good part of the group and if she made the jump to season two, could've been great with Clementine (but given telltales writing in season 2, she probably would've been killed off early or in a cheap way).
Fulfilled because i think Around Every Corner was the perfect episode for her and bought the best off her and i think given the fact that she came to the series at the twilight of the season, it would've been hard to give her a storyline because her story was about crawford and surviving by herself, and with all the other plot holes like Clementine being abducted, the stranger plot, Lee being bit, Christa and Omid wanting to be parents, Kenny and his depressive but carrying on state and Ben getting his send off, i would've found it hard to fit her into something hence the last part on my wasted opinion about being killed off early or having a determinant status and then just hanging out in the back until she dies without a choice.
I know i have seen people on here discuss if she was ever coming back or not and she most likely won't, so im just curious what everyone thinks.
Wasted or did she fulfill her role?
Comments
I never really thought one way or the other about her, but I think Molly being a One shot worked fine enough for what she did. While I wouldn't be completely adverse to her showing up again in something, I don't think she really needs to return just for the sake of it. Especially since Jane is more or less a stronger character, even if it does come from being a gimmick that's trying too hard to pander to the fans, and I don't want Molly to return just for that or to be another Bearded!Kenny.
Well fanfictions are for something aren't they?
I think in stories like these we sometimes need characters that can be mysteries to keep the world alive. Thinking that Lily, Molly or Christa might be alive out there probably adds more interest than if they were confirmed to be either alive or dead.
I literally just finished replaying season 1 and I do think Molly fulfilled her role, especially if she makes it back to the mansion and if you tell her to stay with the group. She gives Lee a hug and reminds him to look after Clementine, it honestly reminded me of Carley and it felt like Lee got some closure as well. We learned quite a bit about Molly in the one episode we had her and I think it makes sense for some people to just leave and never return in this universe.
I'd say fulfilled. We got to say goodbye and a farewell hug, more than you could say for the half the cast of S1 and 2. Molly is a lone wolf and that's the way her story ends.
I would say she fulfilled her role. In these types of stories you always need characters that you meet but are only around temporarily. They don't need to join your group and they don't need to become enemies. They are just characters you came across and they help fill up the world.
I also don't think Molly's fate needs to be explained either. Rather she is alive now or died at some point afterward doesn't matter. She was just a character who you met a long the way.
Honestly I think she was used well in the story. That isn't to say there isn't more that can be done with her. She'd be a great character in a spin off or something of that sort
I'd be lying if i said i didn't want to see her again.
Seems to me, we may yet see her again. If just a in cameo. That said, angry, bitter and depressed teenaged girl.....no offence...I'll pass.
Are you talking about Molly or Sarah? Because depressed isn't a word I associate with her.
Also, she's apparently in her 20's.
He was talking about Molly.
You can't call her depressed, sad about what happened to her sister, but her morals were revenge after what they did, more so on Logan, the doctor who she slept with in order to get medicine to help keep her sister safe until he stopped the deal to save his own ass. That's why she goes after the walker Logan, that's how much she hates him.
Yeah, game sites have her listed in her early 20's.

Im still not convinced Jane just isnt Molly 2 years older with a shorter hair cut.
Well, when you put it like that...
...but Moly's name isn't Jamie...
Waitaminute...
I'd say fulfilled.
With that said though, I'm not the biggest fan of Molly to begin with, so yeah
But back on topic, I'd say Molly was utilized well enough. I don't think every character has to be a main stay. In fact, sometimes I think having these 'one episode wonder' characters is probably for the best; characters like Molly, Mark, or Walter. Sometimes you can craft a meaningful story out of a character without them detracting too much from everyone else, or even from the main story itself. Having a self-contained character/story arc isn't always a bad thing. Granted, Mark isn't exactly a good example of that, but hey, he was pretty cool, and the way he went out is definitely memorable. Molly and Walter got worthwhile characterization despite being around for one episode only, to the point where I'm fine with the rather short stay both of them ended up having.
she could of had an identity change
Molly was a nice character, honestly. I feel like she served her part, and I prefer the way she exited. She was fun, exciting, and frustrating at the right times. Her motivations were there if you decided to dig for it, so it wasn't thrown in the player's face to force sympathy. I appreciated how subtle it was, that you had to be curious about it and actually pry to find out Molly's background; otherwise you just have to assume.
Hopefully I'm not getting too off topic, so forgive me if I am - Jane seemed too similar to Molly which initially threw me off. So in the next season I don't want characters similar to either of them, but I do want more instances where you can work to find out someone's background. That it's completely up to the player to find out more about another character. I just don't like feeling forced to feel something for a character, whether it's good or bad. I rather it be completely subjective.
Seconded. One of the reasons Starved for Help was great, alongside having three of my favorite characters in one episode.
.* coughcough * Jane, Kenny, and Arvo * coughcough *
molly was great in the 1st season and maybe then they could've included her more, but I feel we are way past that..
I see what you mean
In regards to Mark, do you think it would've hindered his character if in the original cut, he was suppose to live and get left behind in the bandit attack in episode 3 was the final print, or would've made it better?
Why would she?
a new life.
Molly mentined her sister was 14 and diabetic. Jane is surely NOT 14, and if she was diabetic, she would steal the bag of meds from Arvo (she didn't know if it had or not insulin or whatever diabetics need). Yeah, she tried to take it, but if you do nothing, she will just sigh and let Arvo keep it. If there was ANOTHER sister, then either Molly or Jane would mention her, wouldn't they?
I didn't say Jane was Mollys sister.
oh shit the hell i did
