So Has This Been Confirmed?
Has Telltale confirmed that we will only be playing as Clem in the flashbacks? Is that a thing? I think that's kinds cool honestly.

That's only speculations.
IIRC we know that we won't be playing as Javier and Clem at the same time like in TFTBL. The Amazon page mentions playable flashbacks as Clem. Job said that we will explore what happened after season 2 and that there will be lots of unique content for each of the endings. They haven't outright said it, but it is looking more than likely and I think it is going to be a really awesome way to do the game, half in the present and half in the past.
It was mentioned in the Amazon product description, so I'm guessing it's legit.
Going by the fact that there is a typo in it's description, the release date isn't correct, and the price doesn't look correct either, I think its safe to assume we'll be playing Clem's story in flashbacks but in present time as well.
The $29.99 price has applied to newer Season Pass discs, and it wouldn't be the first time that something was leaked in a video game from an Amazon product description. Smash Bros on Wii U also had some features leaked in advance through the Amazon description.
Speculating the release date and price are a bit different than having specific details regarding the plot and gameplay of ANF. They may gotten a few details incorrect but they do have more information than any other source.
Probably, and it may be the best way to actually tell the story. Javier is in the present and we play as Clem when she tells us more about herself to Javier. Then we get to choose what happened to Clem.
I'm a bit iffy about only getting to play as Clementine in the past
We will possibly play as season 1 Clementine, and season 2 Clementine in the flashbacks depending on who you went with. Gonna be bummed if the characters you go with die, they said those ending choices are supposed to matter.
I hope this means we get to see the Motor Inn, the Stranger (Campman), Christa and Omid, the huge time gap after Omid's death, some of the Cabin Group, and of course what happened between season two and three.
Edit: Telltale please give poor Mark a second episode! He lost his legs for our sins!
This brings a huge question everyone should be asking Telltale games when the time comes. HOW MANY EPISODES ARE THEY GOING TO ADD IN THIS AWESOME SEASON? I remember Minecraft Story Mode had over 8 episodes, so why can't they add like 6 or 7 episodes of the Walking Dead S3? If this season is gonna be epic, it should have more episodes. Am I right?
I'll repost what I said in the Ep 1 Waiting thread:
I thought it was going to be like which character you want to start off as through the whole story in their POV.
Yeah, there's no way we're getting that. Just not realistic.
Having a single choice completely change how you play it for the whole playthrough is something I don't see Telltale doing at all
And I don't think they should do.
I think they're going for character switches like TFTBL.
That's the more reasonable scenario. We'll just have to wait and see.
But like I said, I'd actually prefer it to be played in the way it's been rumored on Amazon, because it would set in stone how your Clementine changed for better or worse from S2 in your ending. If we were playing as her like normal, we wouldn't get that feeling of how she's changed as a character, because we're still in control of him.
A good way to explain what I mean is with another game: Metal Gear Solid 2.
MGS2 actually showed us what Solid Snake would be like if we weren't actually in control of him. Instead of just being a vessel for the player, he becomes someone to interact with. Which makes him more interesting as a character.
While we all love Lee and Clementine, my personal favorite scenes with them are when you're not in control of them. An example would be Clementine in all of S1, Lee when he's talking about his wife at the end of S1, and the dream scene at the end of S2.
Didn't press q fast enough; Clem dies in the flashback... Javier - no, wait, it didn't happen.
There's interesting possibility, guys. We'll play as Clem in Javier's flashbacks, right? No doubt Clem will have flashback with Lee. So maybe... Maybe we'll also play as Lee. Yes! Lee will come back in this Walking Dead Inception!
Only flashback I'm not looking forward to is seeing lee's death again if they show that which they probably will because it's one of the biggest parts in Clem's story.
I'm pretty sure that, if we're getting flashbacks, it will be things that we didn't witness in past seasons. Like what happened after season 2 ended, how the heck did Clem lose her finger, etc. Since the flashbacks will be playable, I doubt they would show things that we've already seen, it makes no sense. Clem might talk about it though.
I hella don't like this idea.
If it happens the way people assume, we will play as Clementine after the Season 2 ending we chose, not as far back as Lee's death.
Can we get a flashback with her parents? Maybe some Christ/Omid flashbacks as well?
Imagine this. Javier and Clementine are heading somewhere. They see an old store or something clearly reminiscent of life before the outbreak. Javier comments at it. As her turns to Clem, she is frozen, engrossed into the relic of the past. Javier tries to call for her, but she has left reality. Enter flashback We're in control of Clementine who is now 7 or 8 years old. She is with her parents going somewhere. The scene plays out until we see what Clem saw/heard that has connected to her past. Suddenly we hear a walker or some out of place loud noise. Finally, she comes back to reality. We're back as Javier. The scene continues as Clem discusses what happened, what she saw, how she felt, Javier seeking information, etc. We can even have a side plot as we try to help Clem as she struggles with these flashbacks that are becoming more persistent and vivid each day, a result of what happened to her and bottled up emotions reaching a breaking point.
I would want to play as Clem even in the present time. But I trust Telltale to handle the different POVs well and make us invested in Javier as well.
This idea seems good for playing two characters.
If we don't play Clementine as the main protagonist then I doubt I will be interested to buy this on release at least.
Season 2 had this problem where the returning characters were the "good cast members" and only Carver was interesting addition when it comes to characters.
Yes I can boil it down to five characters in season 2, others didn't get enough backstory development to make me care. Season 1 was paced better, there were a lot more "relaxation spots" where you could talk to the characters, etc.
Well, yea, MGS2 gave us the chance to see Snake from the outside, but were those brief moments really worth making the worst entry in the series? I hadn't thought about it before, but damn, this feels very similar to that moment I realized I was going to spend the rest of that game playing as this horribly unlikeable character in one of the most misguided decisions a development team could make.
Not really on board with the playable flashbacks as Clems role for the player in the game. It sounds good, in theory, having those decisions reflect why she's making her current choice, up until the point you've (oops, she's) been reasonable the entire time, then has a flashback where she remembers, "oh wait, I just remembered I did that, time to go full douchebag"
I completely disagree that Metal Gear Solid 2 is not the second best Metal Gear game, and it's definitely not the worst one (that goes to Peace Walker).
Wat. That easily goes to Portable Ops. Peace Walker was infinitely better than that, and leagues betters than "we'll select an angsty 13 year old to replace Solid Snake."
Seriously, if she's gonna complain at Rose again just to make her point, I don't want anything more to do with this conversation lol
What are you even sayin' dude? Rose was the annoying one. And also, I'd much rather have MGS2 Raiden than dumb "Boss AI" Bullshit. You are right though, wasn't even thinking about PoOps.
I personally found Raiden to be fine, in hindsight. Sure he might've been annoying at first since the last character you played as was a super serious dude, but he was necessary as a main character. Thankfully we got Revengeance in return . And even with Raiden being there, like him or not, MGS2's still my second favorite Metal Gear game (First being Snake Eater) just for the crazy twists and turns alone.
I'm sorry, I'm done here. I didn't come to a Walking Dead Forum to have stupid Metal Gear debates lol.
...wat? Raiden spent every conversation whining or being generally angsty. I'm glad you liked it, but it was a disappointment for me since I played Solid on the PSX.
