Thoughts on new TWD: A New Frontier Trailer?

  • There was something...... off about the acting in the family scene. I can't even pinpoint what it was that bothered me exactly but the whole thing just seemed awkward. And Javier (who I really want to like because my interest in Clementine is just absolutely dead) doesn't seem to have much in the way of charisma.

All in all the trailer was ok. Got me invested a little, though I'll admit I was never really all that excited for this season. I'm betting it all on Javi and his story though, so hopefully TT knocks that shit out of the park.

  • Yeah well I believe Telltale for the walking dead at least has been forcing plot points ever since season 2 with Kenny's return and the big showdown with that woman Jane. If that conflict wasn't forced I don't know what was. I had hoped maybe they'd learn from their second season mistakes but they probably unfortunately thought nothing was the matter and now repeat what they did with season 2 such as forced plot points, and 90 min. episodes.

I don't know how to explain it, but I think my main issue is the whole family thing and how Telltale is trying to "force" that on us and mak

  • However, I am not sure if Javier has already been branded at that point, given that, if I remember correctly, his branded side of the neck is not shown on the clip.

Javier is branded on the right side of his neck in the first trailer--

But we don't see the right side of his neck in those scenes with Clem in the extended preview.

For all we know, he could have the brand by this point. Just because we don't see the right side of his neck doesn't mean it's not there.

Hm makes me think though, maybe the reason Clem had Javi tied up was because Clem saw the tattoo on Javi's neck, and perhaps she thought Jav

  • Well the trailer is edited, thats not how its all going down, it was just changed around to not spoil things and to get to the point faster.

  • Well I often wonder what could of been done to make Clementine's character non bland and non flat and still remain within character? If Clementine wasn't supposedly "boring" then folks might say she does not act like a convincing 12 year old girl and is over the top out of character. That was kind of the inevitable difficulty of having a well balanced child protagonist as most people are simply use to playing as adults in games all the time.. especially fit male adults for apocalypse set games and being a child has more limits than freedoms as adults. Therefore maybe Clementine was bland and flat only because she was a child and female and not adult and male like Lee.

Which Clementine? S2 or S1 cause it would be impressive if they made Javier even more bland and flat than S2 Clementine.

  • I liked the trailer, but the new graphics are going to take a bit to get used to. They look a bit more realistic and the glare in the eyes was kinda strange, but I'm trying to stay positive about it. As for Javier I really love him already. :)

  • There's not much of a choice, everything we've seen so far has relegated the character we've spent the last two seasons with to an afterthought while pushing this new guy and his family on us. Because that's a great idea for a series to run with, apparently.

I will take one of the few options left though, and avoid preordering this until the reviews are in and I have a better idea of just how hard they're gonna try to force this new guy and his family into the series. Very likely a pass for me if they're actually going to shift the focus of the story this suddenly.

Well what can I say..? Play the game, play as Javier before you make your final judgement.

  • My thoughts

    • Graphics will take some getting used to before I fully judge them
    • Choices not mattering seems very likely at least from previous seasons
    • Clementine looks about 18 not 13
    • I hope the whole game doesnt revolve around them speaking spanish, fear the walking dead does this enough
    • Javiers past seems generic so far (apart from the abusive parent thing maybe)
    • Voice acting still seems good
    • Two episodes at once? Im wondering if we play as either character
    • Picking choices from previousn seasons also makes me a bit dubious, on one hand great it will stop glitches but Im guessing the most we will pick is a few major choices and the season 2 ending?
  • Just because we don't see the right side of his neck doesn't mean it's not there.

    I know! That's why I said I wasn't sure!

  • The large gun she is holding in the trailer: Where did she get that??!

I think it's Javier's gun but who knows?

I liked the trailer overall! Can relate with other that I watched it more than once myself. while re-watching it I directed more attention t

  • I think it happens later. I think now is when they just meet and Clem is taking Javi to the Farm. Then something happens (Javier gets burned) and that's when Clem and him work together.

But that would imply that Clem looses her finger due to a reason other than the Farms.

  • I don't mind playing as Javier, but I swear to god if Kenny even dares breathe in this new game, I will punch a butterfly

  • This isn't an attack on you just a response and my opinion.

Choices not mattering seems very likely at least from previous seasons

I'm kind of confused as to why you think that considering this teaser just showed more about Javier and Clementine meeting him towards the end. We haven't seen nearly enough to judge how choices come into play.

Clementine looks about 18 not 13

I'm 18. I am surrounded by 18 year old people. She is nowhere near looking like a 16 year old, let alone 18.

I hope the whole game doesnt revolve around them speaking spanish, fear the walking dead does this enough

Not sure how that seems to come into play here or why that even matters, seems a bit of a pointless tidbit especially when it makes sense for them to speak Spanish since they are a Hispanic family and they rarely did so in the first place, they mainly all spoke English. Why does it matter anyway?

Javiers past seems generic so far (apart from the abusive parent thing maybe)

I mean, once again we've rarely seen anything of his past - we just saw the first time they dealt with a walker, and even then not enough of Javier as a character to really judge too much.

Picking choices from previousn seasons also makes me a bit dubious, on one hand great it will stop glitches but Im guessing the most we will pick is a few major choices and the season 2 ending?

Dubious? I guess that's up to you, I do wonder though what we will pick but I always imagine it's an array of major choices from both seasons.
