I said that to the person who called him ugly. Yes his eye looks unrealistic. It still looks cool to me though.

    it looked like a rash

  • 6/10 for me.

It had its moments like Carl standing up to Negan, but it lacked progression and reasonable pacing.

  • It's about time Negan shaved his beard.

  • My thoughts

    Good

    • Negan was a bit better here now that he had a few varied scenes
    • A lot of the comic moments were kinda cool
    • The dialogue was stilted in places but better than normal
    • We actually saw more than once group/location

    meh

    • I'm glad rosita has lines now
    • I hate how they give all the legitimate arguments against rick to all the most hated characters, it was gabriel last season and now its spencer and gregory.Rick is one of the main reasons they are in this mess, these comments being made are pretty valid.

    Bad

    • Chandler riggs really cant act
    • This half season sure has dragged, and really it didnt have to if they had structured it better
    • That gabriel line was pure cringe
  • Really liked this episode! They did a fantastic job adapting the relationship between Negan and Carl. Looks like the next episode is gonna feature the famous "guts" scene, so I'm hyped up for that. I've been enjoying Gabriel and Eugenes character developments through the season.

Also that ending was really great, and was actually a step up from the comics.

  • Pretty good episode, nice to see them going back to multiple perspectives - this episode made me appreciate Carl and Gabriel a bit more. Negan and Olivia as well in an odd way lol

  • Poor Spence, I still like him tho tbh.

Wow, they really don't want people to feel shit when Spencer dies do they? Just dragging the fuck out of the poor guy.... I mean, its not like he isn't kinda right.

The TV version of Negan is VERY tame compared to the Comics.

The Comic Negan is possibly one of the greatest villains in all fiction, but his TV version is nothing more than a wacky, poorly written, poorly acted, irritating asshole who I want to get killed off.

How could they mess Negan up? I mean I was really looking forward to him but this TV show has failed to make him cool and scary like he is in the comics.

  • I was so happy with this episode, chandler killed it!

    Have fun spencer

  • Me too. And he really is making some valid arguments against Rick, but nobody on the show or in the fandom is going to pay any attention to that. Not because Spencer doesn't have a decent point, but simply because he isn't badass enough or because they've known Rick for 5 seasons longer and that's enough to justify having rose tinted glasses whenever it becomes a situation of anybody vs Rick.

Its like, " Who the fuck does this nobody think he is? Slandering Ricks good name.... Hey bitch boy, until you rip out another guys jugular vein with your teeth, you don't get an opinion".

Don't get me wrong, Ricks one of my top 5 favorite characters on the show, but I'll be the first to admit that he completely botched the whole savior thing (and the mega herd for that matter, but I digress). It gets frustrating whenever the show tries to portray Rick as someone who is never wrong and anyone who disagrees is a fucker by default. And its unfair to characters like Spencer and Carter, whose entire developmental arc consists of them standing up to the sweetheart of TWD; a guy who they justifiably perceive as a militant dictator, and being unanimously hated for it by everyone. There's no doubt in my mind that Spencer is going to die this season, and everyone is going to love it.

  • "A baseball bat doesn't have a pussy".

I've waiting this episode just to hear Negan say that line.

I think it was a good episode. A 8.5/10 to me.

  • I dont see how they could possibly do negan how the fans want as its just to much to live up to.

It's not like Rick doesn't know he screwed up. He knows full well, hence his capitulation. The problem with Spencer is that he's talking out of his ass by bringing up his family and attempting to relate it to Rick somehow. Plus, he's not 100% on anything he's saying, he's speaking entirely in "what ifs". Even if they hadn't attacked the outpost, the Saviors would have found them eventually, and someone would have died anyway as per their usual introduction. Alexandria wouldn't have been free and clear forever if they had just not gotten involved.

Gabriel's argument also wasn't valid at all. It wasn't just Rick, he threw the whole group under the bus. The fact of the matter is that Alexandria would not have survived without Rick and the group. Rick's made a bunch of mistakes to be sure, but the Wolves were already on their way, and the herd was going to follow the road and be led directly to Alexandria one way or another. Without the group around for both of these events, the Alexandrians would have all died.

Strange viewpoint, considering a bunch of comic fans are currently crying about how Negan isn't as much of a likeable asshole as he is in the comics and that the show is making him too scary and too evil. Except for this past episode, which is about as close to comic Negan as we've gotten so far.

Negan is incredibly wacky and irritating in the comic. It's really, really hard to take most of what he says seriously because his dialogue is just so stupid. Some of its endearing, and some of it is just cringeworthy. I'd say they're nailing that aspect of it.

  • Goddamn it, that Carl and Negan standoff at the beginning... facepalm Plot armor is a necessary thing, but the trick is not to make it super fucking obvious. The kid has one eye, bad aim, and is in hostile territory. Perfect setup for why he'd try and fail at killing Negan. But nope, let's go with "points gun right at him and doesn't fire". Why? Because Angela Kang and Corey Reed are morons. I can't even really give them much credit for the best stuff in the episode because it was mostly all Kirkman just slightly adapted. Actually, that just makes it worse, because they did a good job adapting all that other stuff, but completely screwed the pooch with that nonsensical opening sequence.

sigh But I did enjoy this episode quite a bit aside from that.

  • poorly written?
Most of what Negan has said so far is from the comic, word for word, so you must have thought he was an irritating asshole.
he is an irritating asshole that's the whole point of the character.

  • To be fair, the comic did give a more valid excuse for why Carl didn't kill Negan-- he was way younger, a lot less capable, the gun was twice his size, and it sent him flying when he opened fire. Carl actually did try to shoot him, but got knocked on his ass and missed.

The show version, for whatever reason, decided to stretch the scene out and make Carl not immediately take a shot at him. That, and he tried shooting through the guy Negan was using as a shield, for... some reason. Go back and look-- Negan purposely pulls one of his guys in front of him, who Carl attempts to shoot through before getting tackled.

Actually, the human shield guy doesn't get shot through, but another dude. Human shield guy has a blue jacket, and the guy who gets shot is wearing a white/gray shirt. He attempts to rush Carl and that's why he gets shot.

And yeah, I know of the comic scene. Obviously they couldn't do the same since Carl's handled these guns in the show already, but in previous episodes there was a conscious effort to show that Carl's aim has suffered greatly because of his injury. Seemed obvious where it was heading, and they even showed that his aim has suffered in the episode itself when he killed the first guy and the bullets go flying all over the truck. But they completely missed the mark on having it be the reason he fails to kill Negan, and made it more of an issue of the age-old trope of "let the villain talk first".

  • There were good and bad points from the episode but I still loved it. People still purposely sought-after the bad points, over analyse things. It's just getting boring, seeing the same old people complain, the people that have nothing good to say about anything. Yet the 'haters' so to speak watch the next episode to do the same every week, every damn season. It even happens with the damn games too. Just don't watch/play it. or are you one of the cool people that hates on things to stand out?

I thought chandler was great this episode, his crying when he revealed his eye was not very good crying tbh.
The singing was good, because how can you sing anything in a normal voice with Negan the guy who killed your friends, threatening you and swinging lucille everywhere.
I loved it when Negan was in Alexandria. Plus the actress that plays Olivia actaully slapped JDM for that take haha! It was a gooden.

  • his crying when he revealed his eye was not very good crying tbh.

Yeah it wasn't great. Which is odd cause he's done really good crying before. Example being in Season 4 when Rick and Carl discover Judiths carriage covered in blood.

  • The eye looked fake, especially considering that Ron's bullet struck his right side of the face and did not go through the eye, skull and brain; it shouldn't be a hole, but a weird mush of white pulp and broken skin.

I can't be the only person who thinks Carl's actor is butt ugly. Also that eye looked fake as hell.

  • WHY DIDN'T CARL SHOOT NEGAN WHEN HE FIRST SHOWED UP!? I know he couldn't have shot him because plot, but they could at least make it more realistic, right? Like, he shoots but no bullets come out.

    DAMMIT, CARL.

  • The television series has managed to not make me want Negan dead like the comic series, and his lines are actually funny and not cringe fuel.

  • The whole show is shit now, do you not agree?

  • Just curious, little poll:

Question is "Do you think Negan not being able to use his full colorful vocabulary as he does in the comics make his character more irritating than in there?

I think it sort of does.

  • I think Negan in the show is a bit exagerated, but great nonetheless.

  • Honestly, I gotta agree with Spencer, as you said, he makes decent points and valid arguments, the only thing is that he's become a bit of a hypocrite but I hope they don't just kill him off because he's against Rick, I'd like to see others challenge Rick's leadership.

I'm not going to love it, I've always liked how Spencer is portrayed as a character whose not automatically perfect and badass, it makes him feel unique in my opinion and I'd like to see him continue to question Rick's authority because honestly, someone has to do it. I think I'll be more pissed if they kill him off at this point, must his character ark be entirely negative? Hopefully he'll have his shining moment though <3

But yeah, you've pretty much pointed out how Rick is not exactly the best leader, he rules with an iron fist, especially against those who oppose him. I still like Rick, I always have, but I can't say he's perfect, that's for sure.

  • Whats stupid is that they had set this up perfectly with carl missing the dartboard so often. He could simply shoot at negan and miss. Given the walking dead has zero subelty they could have even had negan say "oh you missed because your eyes messed up"

  • I'd say no one really is when compared to the comic cast. Every character from the show has been greatly watered down compared to the comics. Comics have very few limits. Unlike on TV and especially with the channel it's on. HBO might had been able to get closer to how the comic characters talked and behaved.
