Some of the choices I made so far in season one
I tried to do everything else besides cutting the guys leg off and the characters were forced to leave him.
Sided with kenny at the pharmacy
Saved carly
Didn't kill either brothers at the farm, no real need to
Tried to save larry
Left lilly on the side of the road.
I am playing lee like the death of the guy he was going to jail for was an accident and not intentional.

I'm not sure I would have left Lilly on the side of the road with repentant Lee. You just left someone to die!
I think everyone saves Carly, right?
Most people tend to save her from what i've seen.
I saved Doug mainly because it looked like he was in a more crappier situation.
I was thinking that she might flip out on me or someone else later on. I did save Ben though and wouldn't let him fall.
I know, right! I did save Carly the first time, yea, I know. So I thought, logically she can shoot so she's gotta be good, right? I'm not too sure!
Think of it like this, Doug saved Carly! So in effect he is the more capable of the two, right? So I played through the second time and saved Doug. I think his death to Lilly makes so much more sense to since he blocks the shot and in the Carly version she pisses off Lilly who shoots her for what seems like no reason. Doug's is admirable and Carly's is such a waste.
Actually I rather like Carley. I think her interactions with Lee make her a pretty interesting choice, and I can't remember since it's been ages since Season 1 but doesn't she kinda save you at the farm at some point? I can't remember.
I play main characters as myself and how i'd react if it actually happened to me.
So in the case of Carley or Doug I chose Doug because even though technically either one of them would have died no matter who I choose, if it were real life I'd believe Carley would have finally reached that gun without help and shot that Walker. Doug however could not save himself from being pinned down backwards by like 3/4 Walkers. So there was more a risk of him dying to me.
Everything you said, exactly.
Finally, someone else saved Ben other than me! My first run through I wanted to go alone but I showed the bite so darn Christa and Omid just had to tag along and then on my second one I was like, everybody is coming!
I think the story makes the most sense when you save Ben anyway, although given the option to go back I would've told Clem to stay with Omid and given her a gun and shot Molly. lol
She saves your life a lot, while Doug only saves your life once... and sort of.
You in fact, owe Carley, she saves your group when you arrive at Macon, she saves you/or Clementine from the walker in the bathroom, then she helps you rescue Glen in the hotel, not to mention she chooses to trust you and don't tell anyone about your past.
After that she saves you from Andy in Ep 2, and in Ep 3 she helps you kill the walkers when the bandits attack the hotel.
Wow the game made me tear up at the end when I had Clementine shoot Lee, it was heart breaking!
I saved Ben too.
I don't think i'd have ever let him die really, but if there was any part of me that was tempted to let him fall it would have certainly changed when I saw him purposely losing his grip on our hand. I think if he begged us to save him I would have been more tempted to just let him drop, but seeing him acting genuinely selfless made me save him.
I've noticed I play my characters as quite empathetic.
I saved Carly because then I have an option later to tell Kenny and the group that I am a convicted murderer which you dont get the chance to do if you save Doug
I saved Doug in my first playthrough because too be honest, i liked him more then Carley. It was only after when i found out you need her to be able to tell the group about your past that i re did it to save Carley.
But if i could, i'd keep my first choice.
