Ok...Javier is the main character this time. The idea that Clementine is being replaced is foolish. I can see what TTG is doing and if they pull it off...bravo. Clementine is important to the fans...however one of the main issues people had with season 2 was her lack of growth. Now this season..they way we play Clem in the flashbacks will affect how she reacts to you when you are playing Javier in the present...also I wouls look for a switcheroo with Clem being played in the present and a Flashback for Javier. TellTale is going to give Clem the character development..and we are going to decide what kind of person she eventually becomes. All the while they are doing this...they are using Clem as a narrative fulcrum to understand Javier better and the new world.
I love that we'll be possibly playing as Clementine in flashbacks, but I also want to play as her in present time. If we just play as Javier in present, that would be kind of a downer for me. I want to play as a more grown up Clementine.

Yeah, it's on odd move on Telltale's part. It would have been more realistic if he waited for a while to exchange confused looks with the adults, then casually check on the girl (his niece?) Hiding around the corner makes zero sense.
The thing is, any viewer who has played, watched or read any installment of The Walking Dead know what's about to happen as soon as the girl mentions zombie grandpa being awake again. The trailer would have felt a little dry if it just showed Javier walking to the room and then being attacked, so they included the hiding part (which still looked pretty cringey, if you ask me).
I'm going off on a tangent here but maybe it would have looked better if Javier goes with his niece, opens the door to find grandpa stirring (but not aggressive) making Javier think he is still alive. He then says something that attracts the other family members, then the attack ensues.

I really don't get this. It's the beginning of the outbreak, Javier has no reason to be afraid. All he does is silently check what his niece is doing.
Thank you for putting this into words. It reminds me of Lee chopping off the guy's leg in S1E2, only more brutal because it's his father, a man that he (presumably) grew up with and cares about.
Also few people seems to notice the fact that Javier is attacking his own zombified father. Which hints the darkness within him and the prag… morematic measure he is willing to take to protect his family. This is already a good sign that Javier has flaws which makes him interesting.
Personally I think that is just weird how they suddenly decided to use "Tales from Bordelands" mechanic , control over two characters (I wanted this with Omid and Christa in S2 but nope), especially the one that we barely know, and why must they expose his past through via flashback?! I mean are we really going to be making choices in a flashback? Something that already happened and cannot be changed at all? Maybe they should watch how to introduce new characters watching movies and copying their way of presentation...
Also I don't know why are they trying this whole "family" theme... again, maybe if some characters from S2 survived through out S3 , if those (S2) started bonding with strangers we don't know nothing about then maybe, just maybe the players will care about those new characters... But Clem holding Javier like a prisoner... like from TFB... come on.
And finally are they going to improve their cinematic approach? You know, not having 70% of gamepl- I mean cutscene just be a characters face...a like good angle shoots, drastic facial expressions? I mean this game is going towards David Cage zone and I don't like that but seeing the s3 poster design I guess it might happen...

Javier mentions a thief that encountered a while ago; flashback has them minding their own business for a while, the thief shows up and does their thing, flashback ends with choice to forgive thief or kill them.

It's like with a horror game using jumpscares-- they're not an inherently bad concept in and of themselves, it's just that they have a tendency to be misused or abused. As long as you temper their use, they can still be an effective tool in a game's arsenal. Most of the horror games that are considered the best still use them. But there's a reason why they don't get flak when they show up in those games, in comparison to their appearance in... less respected horror games, that have them around every vaguely spooky-looking corner
Same rationale with flashbacks; as long as the reliance on them isn't too strong, they can serve as a useful narrative device that doesn't automatically detract from the story by simply being there
But perhaps I'm being too optimistic. But you know what? I prefer being optimistic. Expecting everything to be shitty is boring. If I wanted that kind of boring in my life, I'd go to a 12-hour book reading session with a bunch of people that stitched their mouths shut.
Almost every David Cage game... Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Indigo Prophecy.... and probably even that new game Detroit.

I'm happy that we can play as two characters. It's time to switch up stuff. I love Clem also, yet my friend and I agree that we need a new character to like. In S1, Lee is likable and almost everyone loved his story arc. S2 had polarizing Kenny and Jane, their popularity was split by the fanbase. I loved Kenny as an uncle and stayed with him in my ending. Lee cannot be replaced and I'm not asking for Javier to replace Lee, I just want a new well liked character. When people defend Season 2, I say in a Gordon Ramsey voice "How dare you. It's garbage. Adults that act as children. Story all over the place. The 400 days dlc was a waste. The writers try to force you to like characters that betray you constantly. It's a disgrace to the art of writing." TT must make a better effort for S3.
