Hilltop: No major deaths. Nice. That's not incredibly disappointing or anything.
Carl dramatically crawls on the ground, made for some nice art.
Saviors: Really, Sherry? REALLY?! REALLY.
Ooh, final attack, eh Beta? Hopefully its better than The Hilltop's shitshow.
Honestly, this issue gets a 6/10, and that's me being generous. I liked the dialogue and art but holy shit, was the rest a let down. It was hyped up to be huge and everyone comes out unscathed? Come on now, Kirkman. You're better than this. Hopefully the final battle is better.
Depicted: My face of disappointment
Yeah. I was waiting to see a major character die in this issue. I mean, this is war. It's not a war if no one dies, and nobody died here. I hope that we get to see a real war with real victims in the next issue.
Who do you guys think is gonna bite the dust by the end of the war?
Hopefully someone, or 95% of the entire Whisperer War was a lie.
I'm thinking Beta is a must. He has to die. Maybe Aaron or Jesus die as well. Maybe Lydia or Sophia too.
To me, the victims of (what's left of) the Whisperer War could be:
Sophia
Brianna (She should have died in this last issue)
Jesus or Negan (I dont see both of them surviving this war)
Aron
Beta. I hope we get to see his face before he dies
Sweet. This uploaded on my birthday!
Happy birthday!
Some side characters whose names we don't know have died.
What if Beta is a character we used to know but disappeared?
Honestly, this issue was tremendously underwhelming.
I think that if I had known a guy as big as Beta I would surely remember him.
Still possible
You can pretty much rule out Sophia dying. It's obvious Kirkman is starting to develop a romance between her and Carl at this point. Sophia is going to be around for a long long time to come.
So Hilltop is attacked and no characters die? Kirkman has certainly been playing his characters safely. Hardly any deaths in All Out War, and even the Whisperer massacre only killed off relatively unimportant side characters. Starts to make things feel a bit disappointing.
I also thought that Eugene saved Carl, sometimes I just can't tell with the art anymore.
What if Beta is Davidson?
Nope.
He's dead, Kirkman confirmed that.
Kirkman is known to be a liar.
A troller, yes. A liar? That's a bit too far.
Wait, it wasn't revealed before!?
This issue was kind of lame. Does anyone feel the Whisperers have lost their charm or presence of being a serious threat since Negan killed Alpha in issue 156?
This wasn't a very good issue. Hopefully the last issue in this volume makes up for it, because this one was very anti-climactic.
He told us that Negan will never be free, Jeffery will never be shown, and that the game will be released in November. All are lies.
The first was obviously a troll, like him saying that he wants Rick to die before issue 300.
The second is true, Jeffrey Grimes was never shown in the main series, since his appearance was never planned by Kirkman. It just happened because someone insisted on doing a mini series about his fate.
The third was more Skybound's doing than Kirkman himself.
One of the few remaining core relationships with me as a reader is Sophia and Carl's story arc, so yeah, I'd be pretty disappointed if they got rid of her, and I don't see it happening.
Maybe I need to reread the series (like that wouldn't take time...) but so few of them actually stand out to me anymore. We barely see Rick and Andrea lately, and Dwight is probably the only notable character playing a definitive role in this arc. I'm hoping the series cuts down a bit, or narrows its focus at least, after this war.
where's our maps of all the communities that was promised soon?
Me @ this issue right now.
Yeah, "soon"... That's a pretty infamous word around here. But, still, it isn't a lie just because there's no map yet.
Never really seen the charm in the Whisperers anyway, their way of thinking is such bullshit it's hardly believable so many people are into that. Also, Alpha was a terribly underdeveloped character, Beta has no real development at all and Lydia's story arc was the worst idea Kirkman's ever had in a while.
What's wrong with Lydia? I like her.
Boring character. At first I thought she was fooling Carl with her unexplainable good appearance (too good looking for a Whisperer), and I really really hoped that was the case, I could tell tons of good storylines that could have stemmed from that. Instead she's genuine, and ends up fucking the boy (that was some cringeworthy shit). From that point she totally went downhill with me. She becomes Carl's damsel in distress (for an awful lot of issues), then she breaks up with him (which makes sense, actually, if it weren't for the fact that they still sleep together) and finally, all of a sudden, she turns into a war machine (???).
Maybe it's me you know, but she's just like Jesus. Starts out awesome, just to turn lame subsequently.
That's kinda grey. If the maps come out next month then Kirkman is a troller. But if the maps come a year or two from now, I would have to call him a liar.
I think she's really sweet, at first I didn't like her but now I think she's a good partner for Carl. I don't think she meant it when she said she doesn't love him, I think she just wants to protect him. And plus of course she'd know how to fight, she is (was) a Whisperer.
Can't argue with that, we'll have to wait and see.
That's the point. Sweet lacks intrigue and development, it bores me.
I hope she meant it when she said that, Carl and Sophia work way better together. And you're right, Whisperers know how to fight, but Alpha revealed that Lydia was never capable of defending herself, that she was weak, and yet she dispatched several Whisperers and a swarm of walkers like nothing. Why don't just make her fight along with someone else? A random guy or whatever.
Isn't Carlia a bith cliche, though? Not that I dislike it or anything. And I'm sure Lydia knows how to defend herself just fine. Alpha wanted her daughter to be "strong", but I think she meant it in more than the physical way. Like when she let the other Whisperers rape her and such.
You're right, it's clichè, but IMO it makes more sense than him and Lydia together. Or Carl could just die at last, which would really be the best thing ever.
And you're right about that too, but one thing is defending herself, the other is taking on an entire herd and some whisperers by herself.
Carl and Lydia may have a little more time togethere where they are close (depending on how Carl responds to Lydia basically refusing to help him get people out of the burning building) but Carl/Sophia is going to be the longterm plan.
Carl/Lydia will be similar to what Rick/Jessie were. While Carl/Sophia will be the equivalent of Rick/Andrea.
