What were each character's defining negative and positive traits?
Hey, guys and girls! I'm back with a new topic. Hopefully this line of thought has not been explored in the recent past. FYI: This will be the last discussion I start before the new season of TWD begins. So what do you think were the best and worst traits of the characters in the previous seasons? This is not about who you liked or disliked and obviously this question may not be applicable to minor characters or those who got minimal development. This IS about the things that make a character rounded: positive personality traits and weaknesses/vices. What stood out to you most in each category for the main cast of each season?

Well... the positive things about Ben were... you know... yeah...
And the negative traits he had would be... everything?
He was a professional at screwing up so does that count as positive or negative?
Chuck
Positive: Has Candy
Negative: Didnt give me any
Good topic, too bad it might be a bit hard to go into for some. I'll try to think of a good character to use as an example.
Lilly:
Pros: strong-willed, military experience, capable of , conservative approach to survival, cunning
Cons: holds strong grudges, uncontrollable temper (drove her to murder), poor charisma
Kenny:
Pros: selfless/caring, fearless, faithful, devoted to his own morals, takes risks, great compassion for children, experienced father, stronger build, good aim, got lucky
Cons: holds strong grudges, acts erratically/neurotically/irrationally, prone to excessive violence, stubborn to a fault, has unstoppable fits of rage, uses volatile/inflammatory language (poor charisma, hostility), suffers from mental illness (depression/ptsd/who knows what else)
Jane:
Pros: cunning, cautious, conservative approach to survival, experienced with fighting walkers, knows how to avoid danger, has good judgment of character
Cons: acts irrationally if angered, manipulative, sociopathic, uses provocative language, often acts selfishly towards most survivors, poor social skills, internal battle between morality and pragmatism, carries emotional baggage
Lee:
Pros: Even-tempered (only gets angry when there's purpose), willing to sacrifice to protect family and friends, great speaking skills, intelligent, strong build,, urban
Cons: Can act selfishly to protect family/friends (Stealing from the stranger's car, killing the man behind his wife's affair, dropping Ben, etc)
Clem:
Pros: can do anything, natural-born leader at 11 years old, superhuman strength, titanium plot armor
Cons: none
Bigby:
Pros: go "bark bark"
Cons: sometime growlss
Michonne:
Pros: Everything about her... mostly. She's badass.
Cons: Haunted by her children.
Carver:
Pros: He was TellTale's watered down version of Negan... kind of, but not really. Some resemblances: ruled by fear, forced the rebellious into servitude to earn back their place, sometimes had others dish out punishment to be more effective. Example: forcing Carlos to slap Sarah for speaking over Carver. What could have been with Carver was a cool.
Cons: The writing and his people. Some of them were oblivious.
Christa
Pros: An actual goddess.
Cons: Currently lost; don't know when she will come back.
Okay, I'll try Russell.
Positive: Caution, Mercy, Protectiveness, Empathy, Respect for women
Negative: Snide attitude, Hesitance to trust, Judgmental
Larry.
Pros: military experience, ladies man, hot daughter, large jaw.
Cons: heart problems, must avoid salt.
There were positives with Ben.
A lot more negatives, yes but he had some positives like Being Clementines friend and giving her some support with what she was going through.
He was motivated to make a mends for what he had done, but sadly, he didn't get enough time to show us.
Don't forget that Ben was only a young man who had been exposed to a lot of messed up stuff like a unused audio clip of Ben forced to watch his "classmates be raped to death by bandits." A long with Travis being killed, Mr Parker being killed, What happened to that girl called Jenny.
Are we talking about the same Ben that let Clementine die and Chuck had to die saving her?
There's also the fact that he had genuinely good intentions(Keeping the bandits from attacking the group) but what he did in the name of those intentions was wrong and it ended up backfiring horrifically, causing him to feel constant remorse, guilt, and eventually depression over it, to the point that he told everyone what he did despite knowing the consequences and made little to no attempt to defend himself afterwards, even encouraging Lee to forget about him and save everyone else.
That one dick moment doesn't completely override the good he had in him. It simply further demonstrated that he has a lot of flaws that can get in the way of that desire for good, just like Kenny and Lilly: in that case, fear, [whatever sums up panic], and self-preservation.
The guy was in the middle of walkers, it was a brain fade out of fear, yes it was a stupid thing to do but as i said, Ben wasn't hardened as the likes of Lee or Kenny were. He got spooked and ran off.
Other characters have done similar things like Jane deserting the group, Kenny getting into a fight with Lee because he can't accept the fate of his son, Lee losing his cool and killing the senator, but it seems that Ben's mistakes get bought up more because his character was based around stuffing up. He did bad things, but deep down he was a good kid who wanted to help everyone out, he made mistakes, but his actions were to always help the group.
His intentions were to always help the group. His actions would sometimes deviate from that, unfortunately.
Thanks for correcting it. Yes the intentions were always good, actions didn't go as what he was expecting but none the less, it was his intention to always do good.
Mark

Lee
pro: great guy and takes care of Clem-Clem.

Tripp

Being delicious is good for the nutrition of the group, so, it is a pro. Unless you are not a team player.
You forgot to add the "doesn't wear seatbelts" flaw to Kenny.
Chet
