Does it seem strange to you that both Rick and Daryl are so athletic for their age?
Both men are in their early to mid 40s. And yet both of them seem to be Olympians.
For example, Rick made that mad dash for miles all the way back to Alexandria when they were dealing with that herd.
He went into a group of Walkers, after Carl was shot, and began taking them down one right after the other in rapid succession.
Daryl ran for over a day trying to chase down the car that took Beth, and that was after making a mad escape from the morgue. And both Rick and Daryl chased that the truck Jesus stole for miles.
However doesn't all this seem to kind of be rather far fetched, given that neither of these men are in their prime any longer.
And that's not to say that 40 is terribly old, but it's not young anymore either. The body is just not going to have the same stamina that it did when a person is in their 20s and 30s.
I'm kind of surprised we haven't had some scenes where it shown that their age is probably starting to become a factor.

The apocalypse and the training makes you stronger.
But surely this would be limited by the terrible diet?
I agree, although it doesn't seem they've starved much at the Prison or Alexandria. Their worst moment I think it was after the hospital in S5, they were so weak that they wanted to avoid killing walkers so they wouldn't pass out of exhaustion. Even Daryl ate worms.
Actually, the starvation and the constant physical and psychological strain on your body would make you much, much weaker. There's a reason why athletes usually take a break every other day during training sessions.
they are tv stars. they have to look good :P
In the examples you cited, adrenaline could have gave them a boost if they were desperate to protect people they cared about. It probably is romanticised a bit for T.V. though. If they weren't getting meat and fresh vegetables regularly they have to supplement their diet with things I just don't see them having access to.
