After Season 3's first episode, I have no faith in the writers
So uh, new TWD fan here. Binged watched Season 1 (awesome) and Season 2 (...meh) on Youtube, and watched a playthrough of Season 3 just now. Gotta say, I... literally do not care about The New Frontier. The characters are completely forgettable, and the only one I gave half a shit about (Marianna) dies for no reason. There's not one, but TWO cringe-inducing love interests just crammed in there. The directing and choreography is so mediocre and lacks impact. And I think we all knew Jane and Kenny were going to die, but... good lord, they're giving Nick competition for title of "most poorly written death scene", Jane's death in particular.
“Hm, well Jane is selfish and always abandons everyone…”
(Never mind how she tries to save Sarah alone on the observation deck if Clem chooses to do nothing, or how she came back in Episode 5 to save everyone from the Russians)
“… and she had sex with Luke, so she’s like, probably pregnant and stuff…”
(Never mind that it’s completely out of character for Jane to have had vaginal sex, not only because she’s focused on survival, but also because the group she was with at the time was already trying to deal with a fucking baby when she propositioned Luke for sex)
“… so how about she just hangs herself because she doesn’t want to deal with a baby!”
I’m not even a big fan of Jane, but seeing how out of character and atrociously written her death was, I can’t help but feel infuriated on behalf of all the Jane fans out there. Her death feels like a fanfiction written by a Kenny fanboy.
Kenny’s death, while out of nowhere and incredibly convoluted, was at least in character.
“Oh, and how about the family Clem invites in turns out to be traitors! No one will see that coming!”
(This made no sense to me. Why the fuck would the family even steal half the food in Howe’s and run in the first place? They have absolutely nothing to gain from leaving a secure compound with plentiful food and two people clearly willing to share with them)
tl;dr New Frontier is mediocre. Mediocre characters, mediocre directing, mediocre writing, New Frontier has it all. And Jane's death feels like a fanfic written by a Kenny fan.

You know, I've been debating with myself about whether Jane ever really grew outside of her archetypes--and this really didn't help that.
Ever since the main writers left right after season 1, TWD has lacked that "magic" and you barely care about anyone else aside from Clementine and Kenny. In season 1, I cared about EVERY single character, including Larry, and he was an asshole! But I liked that about season 1. I liked that I had distinct feelings for each character. That's due to the writers knowing how to write a good character and give them their own traits. I haven't played season 3 yet, but from what I'm reading online, it ain't looking good for TT. They need to get their shit together and hire better writers or just take time and stop rushing out episodes just to meet deadlines.
Stopped reading right here:
LOL. Kids today.
Its more of an accomplishment that they managed to fuck this up this bad theres so many things that they couldve done that wouldve improved it
Judging a game without playing is just like judging a movie without the picture, I'll never get why people do that seriously..
Not to mention the annoying save file transfer deal. Basically when I get a One, I might as well buy seasons 1 and 2 for the One to get my choices in New Frontier. I never tie my account to my games, why ? I view it as a waste of time. When I start a Tell Tale game up, I'm excited for the new episode and I just want to play it.
I'm disappointed from the negative reactions already and I might have to view a walkthrough also.
They better not pull another season 2, I will flip my lid if they do. I have been hyped for this game for months. My friend is a huge Walking Dead fan and he agreed with me that season 2 was awful. He told me to not get excited as S3 could be just as bad. I told him, no they will bring back moments of S1, don't worry. Wow after reading about how badly the Jane and Kenny deaths were done, I'm not so sure.
I'd understand your argument if it weren't for the fact that gameplay in TWD is entirely auxiliary. You get almost the exact same experience just watching someone play the game, especially once you realize the majority of dialogue choices only change the immediate line of dialogue following your choice. Decided to save myself the time and money, and after seeing Season 3's writing, not regretting my choice at all.
Well i have tons of faith. Loved 1 and 2.
I hate Sean Vanaman for leaving Telltale now. He had no GOOD fucking reasons for leaving. He is the one who made The Walking Dead a masterpiece. Everyone would have been fine if that overrated shit indie game, Firewatch, didn't exist. No one asked for that game to be made.
I didn't even care for Firewatch.
New frontier is abomination fan fiction.
Many writers > Miscommunication > Compromise > Bad game. All they have is thanks to Sean Vanaman.
Someone's got a big head
If I had to work with the Season 2 writers and now the A New Frontier writers, I would have left too. I'm not trying to sound arrogant, but I'm almost certain that many people on here could have done so much more with this without having a degree.
