The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – Ties That Bind Part I & II Review - Alternative Magazine Online
"In the end, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – Ties That Bind Part I & Part II is a gripping start to a brand new series from Telltale Games. The original series was arguably the studio’s finest work to date and A New Frontier certainly captures some of that old, elusive magic. It’s great to end 2016 with Clementine back among us – even if she does seem far more trigger happy than we remembered. Punctuated by a cliffhanger ending that’s a genuine jaw dropper, A New Frontier is undoubtedly a bold title; but Telltale Games has delivered on its promise. The wait for Episode 3 is already unbearable."

Funny that they should consider the return of David a "jaw dropper."
Thank you for publishing the article here!
No problem - 'they' is actually 'me' as I own the website and I wrote the review!
It wasn't so much the person in question's return that I found to be a 'jaw dropper' (I expected him to turn up again at some point after the kitchen argument flashback), but rather his status in the new world and the situation Ep. 2 ended with. Basically the cliffhanger ending as stated, which I thought was executed really well.
David's reveal was as much of a jaw dropper as when Jason Statham is cast for another action movie playing as himself.
I don't agree with that review ONE BIT
Pretty much agree.
I agree with that review, I'm also concerned about the length of those episodes. Hopefully future ones will be longer. I mean, I understand when Telltale wants to make minimum 90 minutes long episodes but at this rate they'll start doing episodes with the length of 60 minutes. :x
I actually DO think David's return was unexpected.
Did you know Kenny was originally going to have Carver's role? Maybe this is telltale regreting their previous descicions. And sinde Higlander 2... er I mean S2 didn't exist (right?), everything is fine
Thanks for all the comments above! As I mentioned, it wasn't so much David appearing that was the 'jaw dropper' for me, but the cliffhanger itself. I was so caught up in surrendering and getting some immediate medical attention that I didn't figure the leader of the New Frontier was going to walk right out the front gate. When I realised who it was, my stomach dropped.
Great review.
I suspected that New Frontier leader will appear because in the trailer there was someone coming through the gate while the group surrendered. The only thing that surprised me a bit in this scene was that it was David who turned out to be the leader of the New Frontier.
Ah cool, I actually avoided the trailers this time round so I went in totally fresh.
When David walked out it was especially daunting for me - in the kitchen flashback I'd blurted out that Kate was 'planning to leave him anyway', and he wasn't happy.
I can imagine he won't be particularly grateful that Javi has been looking after her and the kids, instead focusing on whether or not they've slept together. It will certainly be interesting to have an antagonist who is also a family member!
Indeed, but Jesus will provide us a foil to those plans. My bet is Clem helps him regardless if it would help Javier or not. This Javi Clem team up started at the end of Clems gun. It may well end that way as well. I feel the odds are good that David has directly harmed Clem in some fashion. Most likely,David is a Carver type A ass. He's Gonna punch Javi at some point and if my Clem is there......David will be dead before Javi hits the ground! Clem is over talking it out....thats why Jesus will be key to everyone's survival. I'm horrible at these predicting this stuff though.
Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing. I wonder how different the start of Ep. 3 will be for players who had Clem with them during the final moments of Ep. 2? I didn't even realise she could be present at the gates until I saw a clip on YouTube!
