Save import problem from TWD 2 Steam do Cloud "Incomplete Save"

The save import system is broken. I have message "incomplete save" all the time. I've tried everything to no avail like many other users.

I am trying to upload save from Steam TWD2, but on the website http://telltale.com/wd2save/ I see "incomplete save" and cannot get further.

Does anybody have workaround? Telltale promised that I could switch platform and I already bought PS4 version of TWD3 and can't play because I can't get my saves from PC. Argh!

Telltale: If you close this thread before the issue is resolved suggesting contacting support which DOES NOT ANSWER EMAILS then I'll it will be it - and I'll request refund and won't buy your games anymore. Your move.

Why close all the topics with about save if you won't help us and continue to ignore emails? Just let users help themselves, simple as that!

  • I have even downloaded game to my Mac, copied save from PC, uploaded it from there - and upload is actually working, but now I have "incomplete save" in both Steam versions on your site: PC and Mac.

    Good job Telltale

  • I created a similar post and I was told that all we can really do is contact Telltale by e-mail or twitter or by checking the support centre for updates. The moderators are volunteers and so they can't give too much assistance in this regard but I'm sure the devs will solve this problem soon. I just had to use the story generator and it did a good enough job I feel, so don't worry about it. Not much actually changes depending on your save honestly so feel free to use it, at least for now.

  • I have problems too on Xbox One. I go on Season 2 (on X-One too), go to Save files, select a file (season's complete), press X for Upload, go to my Telltale account, then, it says No save found.... My account says it's linked to my Xbox live so what's the deal? Kind of annoying considering I have season 1, 2 & 3 on the same same console and I didn't have this problem to import season 1 files to season 2. Is there some server problems, am I skipping something?

  • That doesn't necessarily excuse shutting down all conversation about the topic. Conversations like this have led to genuine fixes that the community discovers in the past for other games (maybe not for Telltale releases, I'm not sure), so I see no reason to close off all conversation about something that's clearly affecting a good chunk of us.

I suppose it isn't so much that we need our saves, as we would like to ensure our choices are intact. I have no idea what gets dragged across into this new season, and Telltale won't say with 100% accuracy what they've made matter from Season 1 and 2. So, even the little choices are ones I want to bring over, even if I don't know if it's going to matter. Using that choice/story generator feels impersonal; the whole point of the save transfer is to make it properly our own.

  • Yeah I feel you but really I'm just saying that because it is what happened to me when I asked for help with it. I did ask for community help but after a while no-one had anything to suggest, since it is a confusing issue to say the least, so the mods had to shut it down. I will most likely play through the episodes again and make all the same choices but using my own save file when Telltale sort this out, which they better, but may as well enjoy yourself for now, y'know? Besides likely the mods will have to shut this one down too.

  • Yeah, I hear ya. It's just frustrating that our only existing solution is to either play without our save, or wait for Telltale to respond to us individually. =/

I've got other stuff to work on for the time being, so I'll be waiting a bit anyways. In the meantime, I'll hope that Support gets back to me soon, though I can't imagine they've got an answer to the problem, since it would have only just made itself known.

  • Similar problem, can't import a local save on my PC. I can only Recreate, which I don't want.

  • edited December 2016

Worked for me. On Xbox one. I uploaded my season 2 save from season 2. Went to the website. And it had my save.

  • edited December 2016

I found out that the game is suppose to detect local save files if we're playing season 2 & 3 on the same console (like it does when you start season 2 with S1 save files on the same device), but the option just doesn't appear. And yeah, it kind of sucks having to recreate your choices when our file is right there, especially when somes are asking what KIND of person Clem was on our playthrough. It's kind of hard to say if most of my decisions were based on family, survival or justice for example.

  • Same problem here. I have my S1 and S2 save files in my Documents folder (PC), but ANF doesn't give me the option to import local saves.

  • I'm on Xbox One and I've the same problem that you. I choose "Upload" on my save file, the game tells me it's uploading my save, but when I go on the website, I have no save found. I don't want to begin the season 3 without the choices I made in the season 2. What kind of problem is it ?

  • I am having the same issue with the PS3 upload. It is definately a completed Season 2 (with data carried over from season 1) but the TellTale website says "Incomplete Save". Tried multiple uploads and no change. I don't want to use the generation tool as I want to import the exact Clem from my games.

  • Yep had the same problem.
Had no choice but recreate the story sadly...

  • OMG I think I know why ANF doesn't detect S2 save file on PC. Because GOG creates the folder "The Walking Dead Season 2" and Steam creates "The Walking Dead Season Two" in Documents. I think that was/is it.

  • Good luck to you in getting your saves to work! I have a good feeling it will get sorted and I can't wait to have my saves to play with!

  • Update: Telltale contacted and told me that on thier side it seems like I only played Episode 5 and nothing else. I know that I've played whole season 2 and I have even imported saves from season 1.

So: either my save file are corrupted or something is wrong on their side. I sent them my folder with saves in .zip and I am waiting now for an update.

I wanted to say "Pc mustard race" but then again I see that console users have the same problem ;-) still, I hope that after my switch to PS4 in this season next will have seamless transition of saves. Fingers crossed.

  • I was asked the same thing; in my reply, they stated that all episodes needed to be completed. I reiterated that I had initially uploaded a save file with all episodes completed. However, I think I know part of the issue, at least for me.

So, when I uploaded my file, it was when only one episode was installed, the 1st one. I just kept it installed on my console for whenever the third season came out, so I could transfer things over. Thing is, I think that's what borked my save on Telltale's side of things. Now it just thinks I keep uploading the same file with no connected episodes. Even after reinstalling all of the episodes and seeing exactly what other posts have said to have in order for it to be considered complete, it just doesn't update the right way. So, now, I think all of my saves either believe I've only completed Episode 1, or only Episode 1 and 5. Meaning I either need to replay all of Season 2, or I need to use their story generator in New Frontier.

I'm going to wait for a reply for a day or two, see if their online team can find the problem. But I'm almost certain I'm stuck with no way to fix it past replaying the entire season. I dunno, maybe I'll do it overnight.

  • I was doing it from my 360 to my Xbox one. I had the incomplete save message too but when I clicked back to where it shows all the different platforms it said save found on my 360. Then I clicked and now it says save used or something. This might be how you fix it.

Also for if you or anyone else has this issue. Even though I had the save on my 360 registered and ready to go when I went to import it on my Xbox one it wouldn't find it. After some experimenting I found that even though my Xbox one had said I was signed in to my TellTale account, as I had created the account with the same email and linked it, I found that when I signed out and entered the email address and password manually on the Xbox One it then found the 360 save.

    Hope any of this helps.

  • Here another with the same problem. I'm on the same fucking PC I've played the previous games, I've put the savefiles back in their own folder (had them backed up on another drive), but other than that, it's the exact same savefile from 2 years ago. Yet season 3 doesn't recognize them. I even tried uploading them, eventhough I shouldn't have to, but I just get "incomplete file". I've tried redownloading and replaying chapter 5 but that didn't help (I've deleted the other chapters because they were taking too much space). I'm not replaying all chapters of season 2, and I'm not "recreating" savefile.

The annoying thing is, I'm pretty sure I had the exact same problem when starting season 2, though back then replaying the last part of season 1 fixed it if I recall correctly.

The only thing I may try it reinstalling all the chapters, then replaying chapter 5 yet again. But I don't get it.. My choices are right there. How do they keep fucking this up.

  • My old save is on PS3 and I know for a fact that I haven't deleted any of the episodes, not touched the game in anyway since I played through it all over a couple of days just after episode 5 was released. If you go on the decisions options you can see my decisions for the entire season, not just the final episode.

As I brought on Steam I am tempted to get a refund unless there is positive movement over the issue shortly. I don't want to use the generator so the only other option would be to replay the game on PC before starting season 3 which I won't have time to do for a few months at least.

  • Exact same problem here, game can't locate save files that are right there where they should be.

I've even tried renaming the save game folder with no luck.

  • Not working for me too trying to upload from 360 to Xbox one...my question is where do u log into ur telltale account on wds2? There's no option to log in anywhere?

  • Sigh... exact same issue, on PC/Steam. I played s2 to completion back in 2014, and while I've since uninstalled the game and swapped PCs, I was logged into my Telltale account and had cloud sync enabled, so when I reinstalled my s2 today, my saves were still there. I clicked "upload" on the save that says "Episode 5 Complete" and yet when I go to the Telltale import page, it tells me my Steam PC save is "incomplete".

I even recompleted Episode 5 tonight just to see if it would fix things. It didn't.

PLEASE sort this out, Telltale ---- unless you can guarantee that s3 isn't going to take into account any of the hundreds of minor choices we've previously made, and is only concerned with the decisions you're asked about in the 'Recreate' tool? (If so, that's disappointing on a whole other level, but at least solves this stupid import issue).

  • I think it may not be it. I've reinstalled full game from Steam - saves were in the user directory from two years ago also - and got the same result - incomplete save after upload. Or maybe your issue is one thing and Steam Cloud corrupting saves the other? Or the upload tool is bugged which I think is most likely.

Upload takes few seconds, even if the whole Telltale folder is 4,5 MB large in my case (I used only one save slot)

  • Mine may be the (or one of many?) issue for consoles; couldn't say what it might be on PC. I tend to use my PC for mostly indie stuff, so I don't exactly use it a ton compared to my consoles for most of the year. When it comes to the Steam Cloud, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a problem; I've never had a positive experience trying to grab my saves when I'm away from my home PC.

  • There is no log in for Season 2 on the 360. What you do is go to Help/Options from the main menu, then click on Save Files. If your game was updated (I think there was a 23MB patch when I started my copy up), you should be able to upload your completed save with the X button. Just make sure you have all of the episodes installed, and that the game was properly and fully completed before you upload. Since a bunch of us are having issues, you might as well do your best to avoid our problem on your first go-around with this.

  • The first reply I got asked me if I was missing any choices in the choices screen, and it appears I do. Funnily enough I was missing the last choice of chapter 2..
The last chapter showed 4 choices, but that's because all other choices shifted to fill the gap (so choice 1 from chapter 5 appeared as the last choice from chapter 4). The "Left to find Kenny?" was the one I was missing.

Anyone else missing a major choice? The same one perhaps?

  • That's exactly it. When you upload it, it goes into the Telltale servers somewhere. Then, here on the website, you link your Xbox Live account (should be an option in your profile settings tab), and it grabs all of your choices and saves from other games.

  • Well, if that's the case, we're all probably gonna have to wait for Telltale to fix things up. Honestly, I got tired of waiting, and used their story creating tool to just get myself playing, so I could avoid spoilers. Not like there's much to spoil so far, but still.

  • I think we are getting to the bottom of the problem. People with issue "incomplete save" - check if you cann see all the choices you've made during the game, five per episode. If there is one missing it could mean corrupted save file and it could be a root of our problems. I don't see a way around this, unfortunately, other than playing from that point again - and still the save may be corrupted elsewhere, so I won't be testing it, simply don't have time for this.

  • For anybody wondering about the Incomplete Save thing, I want to copy and paste my response from Telltale Support on the matter. This is what I received once I confirmed some of my info with Telltale:

"Thank you for confirming this. I also see that your save is listed as incomplete on our end. Our database determines if a save is "complete" by checking if all 5 choices are listed for each episode in Season Two's My Choices menu. To check this in your game, please launch your copy of Season Two. In the Main Menu, please select My Choices.

Do you see exactly 5 choices listed for each episode here? Or, are some of the 5 choices missing in certain episodes? If you see some choices missing here, unfortunately this indicates that some of your progress was lost or corrupted. As such, this save cannot be used. I sincerely apologize for the difficulties this causes.

Possible solutions around this are to Rewind to certain chapters and replay episodes to see if this makes missing choices appear. However, this is not a guarantee if there is partial corrupted data in your save. Instead, I recommend using our in-game Story Generator for A New Frontier to recreate your backstory. This will allow you to select some of your choices and playstyle to rebuild how you played Season Two:

    https://telltale.com/support/article/twd3-recreate/

I will also pass along your information to our team for further investigation to see if there are other potential solutions around this. Please let us know if you have any additional questions, and again, we apologize for the inconvenience."

So, yeah. If you're suddenly missing choices, that might be it.

  • I already decided to just use their story creator tool. Got tired of waiting to see what all the fuss was about over the first two episodes.

Still, it's nice to have a solution!
