I'm liking Javier & Clementine

After everything Clem witnessed. After everything Clem had to do from the very beginning; being held prisoner four times: by the cannibalistic St. Johns, the revenge seeking Stranger, Luke's group upon first meeting, & then Carver... I'm diggin' this new Clem who's so mistrusting, cold & trigger happy. It makes sense for her to take this dark turn, because she is still young & now without a moral compass to guide her. She keeps moving, never staying in one place for too long. Has never been with a group that's worked, & it's showing. As much as I love playing as her, she seems better as a support character. Doesn't mean I wouldn't mind making more decisions for her in S3, but I'm content right now.

Javier:

I'm actually liking him. It's refreshing to play as a new character, as much as I love Clem. We're getting backstory on Javi, which is exactly what I needed if I were to care about him. It seems like Javi & Kate have lingering feelings for one another pre-apocalypse, which makes their dynamic even more interesting. It has nothing to do with shipping, but everything to do with making them both human. There's no time for romance in the apocalypse? I call B.S. on that. Some people still have wants & needs. Javi is not one dimensional. He can be unforgiving & can have a sense of humor that is refreshing. I need some laughter in dark themed games such as TWD. His mission to find a candy bar for his niece Mariana was cute & was a nice chuckle. His relationship with Mariana goes deep as he professed at her burial that she was like a daughter to him. Even if he wasn't always there for them, he cares about his family & it shows. That's what I like most about him. And this dynamic between Javi & Clem is what I find most interesting. If you befriend her, Clem appears to be softening up again. I'm excited to see where that goes.

  • I feel like javi family will die. Javier will sacifce himself for clem

  • Hope not. I'm really liking Javi, Gabe & Kate right now. If Javi were to die, I'd be fine with sacrificing himself for Clem.

  • Well we lost one. Already his brother lead's the bad guys.

  • Yeah & I'm not sure how to feel about that. They've already had a rocky relationship. I have a feeling he's gonna blame Javi for Mariana's death.

Javi is such a fantastic protagonist. No offense to Clem, but I enjoy having a character with more than a few emotions. Speaking of Clem, I really like her dynamic with Javi, and here she seems so much more fleshed out and interesting. I was accidentally terrible to her in a lot of ways, but I enjoyed what interactions I got with her in the episode.

  • The original post made me remember , there is a burial scene...but i didn't get it because i went back with the rest of my family.

  • Same. I really want to see how that plays out later.

  • Agreed. My 1st playthrough, I agreed with her on everything just because it's Clem & I couldn't help myself. In my 2nd, I'm making decisions based on what I think is best for Javi's family. Like going back with Kate after she was shot, leaving Clem by herself.

  • Clem was handled well, for the small portion she wasn't in the background. But on the whole it really felt like I was playing a new game rather than a continuation. Completely new character is the focus, they're trying really hard to get me into the mindset that I care about these people 4 years into the outbreak with flashbacks that are supposed to stand in for experiences with them. It's just not working for me.

  • It's emotional... if you're the emotional kind. I didn't think I could care for a character I just met that fast since Clem. Gone too soon.

  • I loved Mariana so much dude. Like I was about to cry when she died.

  • I think in episode 5 we are going to have a choice between saving Clementine or saving Javier's family.

  • Who would you save?
