AJ Theories (Spoilers Below)
So I've heard the theory floating around about the possibility of AJ being deaf from gunshots, and thus unable to hear words to pick up speech. Does anyone have a retort to this? It seems plausible and would explain why he hasn't started saying even broken sentences.

I think he's traumatized and is mute.
In S3E2's flashback, Clementine can hum AJ a song to calm him. If he can't hear, he shouldn't have reacted to the humming right?
AJ is a smart! he knows that if he talks people will know he is a baby and not just some wierd midget! people dont suspect babys but weird midgets get all the blame and J knows this
Hm. Good point actually. Then again wouldn't it be easier to make out a melody than words? At least at that age.
You know I thought this back in Season 2 when 'Becca says, "I got this" referencing having Carver's gun (I believe it was). I'm thinking, you fire that and your baby is going to be deaf!
If it did happen it obviously happened during the Russian fight and having a gun go off next to my ear a couple of times the worst I have is a constant ringing called Tinnitus which was more than likely caused by ear infections as a child. The only time I've heard of anyone losing their hearing is having a gun go off literally right next to their ear. Even big explosions only cause temporary hearing loss.
Telltale has concluded on multiple occasions that they don't understand how weapons work either so it could be likely they don't know how an inner ear works so there's that.
I'm thinking, or should I say hoping, that it's something else. They could be touching on subjects like Autism (referencing the Kenny / Einstein discussion).
The good news is we'll probably find out soon enough.
Well when Clem makes a guess in Wellington ending on what AJ draws, he is happy Clem guessed right or not. He isn't deaf. I think he is with Richmond and that's why Clem panicked that ANF took over the place
