New Clementine

Someone's brought this up already and I know that even without seeing the thread myself but new Clementine is just, she feels like a stranger that I've read about you know. Someone that I've heard about knowing some things like her name, some of her past, the beginning stages of the ZA. But all of the other stuff just completely threw me off when I saw it in the Walking Dead Game: Season 3.

She is completely different and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, she's a huge badass now killing zombies using the Jane technique and driving around in a car at 13. But when she shot that man in the hangar at the bar I was completely thrown off by how she handled it. I thought she would have been more in panic saying "oh shit, I didn't mean to, shit shit." but she said "say he attacked you and it was self defense" a shitty situation in where I'm sure majority of people lied for her because it was Clementine. Or when Clem told us that she was a part of the New Frontier, she explained why because she was all on her own and had literally no one or nothing so it was a good offer at the time I just still didn't see that coming and whether that was Telltales aim for these episodes or whether it wasn't, it threw me and I'm sure a lot of other people off guard when some of the shit that she said wasn't what we thought she would say.

Thanks for reading.

  • Not a fan of this new Clem myself. It feels like she did a 180 on her personality that I been so careful to set up from the past seasons. She was a good person that wouldn't really do and say the things she would in S3. It's really making me not like her. But part of me does like how Badass she is, but God I wish she would tone it down a bit and stop being so damn edgy. That whole joining the Frontier thing was bull crap as well. I did everything I could to not join the girl in that flashback, but no, typical Telltale and their choices. I guess I'll just have to accept this, because I can still empathize and I'll always be on team Clem.

  • I'm pretty sure that you can't make any decision to make her not like that.

  • There is just one dialogue that changes in Episode 2, if you side with Kenny, or Jane, or you went to Wellington, she mentions she had a friend once (Kenny, Edith, Jane), but that they always die and she gets hurt, something like that.

  • Yeah I agree completely, she feels completely different even though I made sure I was nice in the previous season to literally anyone even Arvo. Hopefully they tone it down a bit with the badassery but I don't think they will

  • Yeah that's what I was thinking of but I was more thinking of the scar or the tattoo or nothing (idk if you get anything like that from being in wellington)

  • You get a scar near the eye if you are with Kenny
You lose a finger if you are alone
You get a tatto and AJ a middle name if you are with Jane
And you get a scar in your cheek if you are in Wellington

  • Hopefully that will be explained to us when we see the next episodes. She is definitely not acting how I would have expected her to, but I can imagine that she went through a lot when she was with the New Frontier. Perhaps she was traumatised enough to revert to being a lone-wolf sort of person. Especially if they did something to AJ, who is her last connection to the past communities she's grown up in.

  • Yes, Clementine is the same person no matter what. Except for a few minor dialogue changes, you won't see a notable difference in her.

  • I don't believe that is 100% true, she may be the same person but she isn't the same character you know what I mean? She is Clementine but she isn't our Clementine that we know and loved.

  • What I meant by that is Clementine will have a hardened heart for every player in The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, even if like myself, you raised her up to be a kind, loving, and caring woman. At any rate, I can agree with you in saying that she's not my Clementine, that I have always known and loved.

  • I've done two playthroughs. In one, she was a bit of a hardened survivalist in S2. Then, I built a custom backstory, and tried to make her as much of a fucking saint as possible. Lee taught her the importance of community, Luke was her idol because she valued his kindness, she didn't have the heart to shoot Rebecca, she went to Wellington, all that jazz. Basically everything was the same. I think the most shocking thing that's persistent no matter what is her robbing you; if she really values kindness, why would she rob someone and respond to their pleading with "we're all victims"?

Don't get me wrong, her creepy and aggressive behavior is pretty cool to watch, but it sucks that we have absolutely no control over it. I'm fine with her being a supporting character, but the fact that she acts the same no matter what is such a missed opportunity.
