  • Please yes. In epside 2, telling David off..

I did not just tell David off then, god damn that scene played out way off what I sensed from the dialogue.

I just wanted to start off by saying I that I think that this season is ok. But a few problems regarding some of the choices. Let me start off with what is my opinion the worst choice in ep 2. The choice where Clem is asked to join a New Frontier. I had Clementine say no. Then after that she tells Havier that she joined the New Frontier. Like seriously? Telltale did the same thing in Batman where if you had Batman not hit the Children of Arkham member (the one who was hanging upside down), Alfred will say the same thing which was "you beat that man half to death." This choice of Clementine not joining the New Frontier would have prevented Conrad from not capturing Clementine. Also the 5 endings will only give you a 5 minute cutscene without changing the plot. There are 42 starting points but it doesn't feel that way. It feels like Telltale is making a straight linear path in a New Frontier rather then setting out branching possibilities. What do you guys think about the choices for this season? For me I think the choices do improve each season but while choices are improving the story gets less interesting.

Now the people dying is starting to make me change my thoughts on all 3 seasons. It seems more pointless after each episode. Especially with characters who had good potential like Mariana (I felt like her death was a copy and paste from Michonne where Sam's dad dies). Like what's the point of moving on when you're gonna kill off everyone? It feels more pointless then Game of Thrones, because no matter what happens everyone will die and no one will be left alive excluding a few important characters. Kenny and Jane were killed off way to quickly for that matter ( I did not like how their deaths were handled and I think they died in a stupid way). So my second question is do you think that Telltale should keep the pace they have of killing off people (including npcs)?

I have to say after typing this I did get a little disappointed.

  • Clem runs off, Jesus asks where she went

    "Don't worry about her"

    How Javier says it

    "Shes not our problem anymore"

In my opinion, killing characters is ok in a game like TWD as long as there's a point to those deaths. Most of the deaths in season 1 helped to develop other characters (Kenny, Clem, Lilly, Carley or Doug...) The problem is when you make important characters die without giving them proper development for just shock value, like they did in Season 2 with Luke, Nick, Pete or Carlos.

I think that the threat of death should be present in TWD, but those deaths need to make sense and have some kind of purpose for the future.

    Episode 2. Love it.

    Pros:

    -Powerful cold open

    -A huge sense of urgency.

-Jesus. (Played by Garrus no less.)

-Flashbacks, while some complain are lazy, are at least interesting.

-The last half is tense as all hell and reminds me of why I fell in love with this series in the first place.

    -Unexpected twist ending

    Cons:

    -Too short

-Gabe is still a pretentious fuckwad. Honestly, how the fuck did he even survive three years? Why the fuck is he even there?! What's the fucking point of his character?! Okay. I've calmed down. I'll sit down now. But yeah. Not a fan of Gabe.

    Final Verdict:

I enjoyed this episode a lot more than Part One and I feel like it really got the story moving. Yeah, it could've been longer and there was no need to split it into two parts, but it's pretty great for what it is. I still don't think it's quite on par with the previous two seasons (or not yet anyway), but regardless, I can't wait to see how the rest of the season pans out.

    Final Score:

    9/10

  • It was alright. Nothing mindblowing, but nothing too horrible either. But there were a lot of problems.

First off, the flashbacks were shit. The way they treated Jane/Kenny was really insulting to their characters. Honestly, they couldn't think of a better death scene? Or, suprise surprise, you don't have to kill people to get rid of them, just let them get separated. They had 2 years and this is the best thing they could come up with? I didn't even like Jane or Kenny, because I ended up alone, but it made me angry anyway that Telltale could be so lazy. So I guess congratulations are in order, Telltale, you made me feel something about characters I hate. Smh, Telltale. Smh.

Since we're talking about flashbacks, correct me if I'm wrong, but that was like the only time that a choice from previous seasons somehow influenced the narrative. No matter what, Clem's personality always stays the same. I know that this is only 2nd episode, so a lot of things can still change, but considering how big of a deal they made those save clusters, I expected more.

Now this is just my personal opinion, but I feel like Clementine got shoehorned in the Javier's story so people would buy it. Most of the time, she's just a random NPC in the background and I can't help but feel that the season would work better without her. Then again with the whole No Clem=No Buy mentality in the TWD fandom, I'm not surprised they included her.

I don't say this that often, but the episodes were way too short. "Episode was too big so we had to split it in two" my ass, might as well sell it as one episode with 4 episodes in season in total.

I have a few more complaints like David reveal being too cliche, certain death just for shock value or that I didn't kill any of the New Frontier guys until I had to, but they said I did anyway (Which means that technically they wanted to kill my Javi for stealing some pudding. Way of an overreaction guys!), but this is getting too long anyway.

I don't want to be all negative the whole post, so there goes. Javier works as a protagonist really well, I love his flashbacks. There are also some really cool characters (Kate, Tripp, Mari cries) and hubs are back! You still can't really talk to people besides like 2 sentences, but imo it's a step in the right direction.

Overall, it wasn't bad. I just expected better from Telltale. But there's still time for an improvement, so I'm willing to give the next episodes a chance. 7/10

  • Love it! I was worried about this season, but Telltale has quelled them. Great job guys! Keep it up!

Agree about the deaths being insulting to the characters. And as you say, they didnt HAVE to kill them. Just like with Christa and Lily, they could have left it open ended because you never know. But killing off characters is final and it seems to have become a thing in some ill conceived notion that people in the ZA die. Yes, they do, but the thing with killing off everyone anyone has ever cared about is that in the end no one is left. People like to follow their fave characters, watch them grow, see what happens to them, how they overcome etc. Killing them off as some kind of an inevitable rule sort of defeats that. And I am pretty sure that they will follow this rationale to the end and kill off Clem too. Just watch.

They should just have made Season 3 about Javier then. Bringing in Clem but sort of half-assed and as a side gig was not only insulting to the audience but also insulting to her character. It seems like they just inserted Clem in there to appease those who wanted to see her but clearly had no interest in her, which is why we have this.

I just dont feel that the kind of work and effort we have seen in Seasons 1 and 2 went into this and as it should. And it is a damn shame. I say if you are not going to do something right and exemplary and are just trying to meet a deadline, then dont do it at all. I have already waited 2 years, I would gladly have waited another year or so if it meant we would get something better. A small press conference announcing that the new season will take longer for this reason would have gone a long way.

By the way, dont they run this by a test market or audience? No way no one would not have pointed any of this out to them, including the fact that Jane and Kenny dont even look like Jane and Kenny.
