Do you think Clem might become playable in present by the time EP3 comes out?

I'm curious on what people's thoughts are on this, since many people are upset that Clem was playable for about 10 minutes for both episodes. Personally, I think throughout the whole season Clem will only be playable through the flashback sequences, which kinda sucks, since Clem is super badass in the present. But since the reactions were pretty bad to the flashbacks, TellTale might make them longer, hopefully. What are your thoughts on this?

  • Only time will tell bro fingers crossed

  • I would like that. I think TellTale did a good job with two playable characters on TFTB, and I wish they did something similar in GoT instead of... Well, what we got (I really, REALLY dislike the last two episodes of GoT). They can do it again here.

  • I hope not. I love playing as Javier.

People need to grow up and accept Clem's game was Season 2, not New Frontier. Crying isn't going to bring her back.

  • I don't think that's fair, The whole time when A New Frontier was being advertised, Clem was said to be the second playable protagonist along with Javier. I just think so far she hasn't been treated as one, she's had 10 minutes compared Javier's 2 hours. She doesn't have to be the main focus, but I do think she deserves more than 5 minutes per episode.

You should listen to your own advice.

  • No she doesn't, you already had 5 hours of her in Season 2.
And her flashbacks right now are pretty interesting, I don't see why would she need more screen time.
And Javi was always confirmed as the first protagonist.

  • Personally I hope she stays playable only in flashbacks until maybe episode 5.

Well your way of wanting things includes a lot of tears and yelling like a baby.

  • Why would being able to play as Clem mean not being able to play as Javier?

  • Javier should've been a separate game just like Michonne was. This divides the community too much. I personally don't want to play with him when I can play as Clementine. Not that I hate him or anything like that, but Clem > everyone else.

  • I think it would be nice to play as clementine in the present but that's not the route telltale wants. And as far as not putting clem in at all is concerned that would have been a big disaster

"Players won't only be jumping into Clementines shoes"

"Will be playable in addition to Clementine"

Literally nothing in that makes it sound like Javier is the main protagonist rather than a second character we'd be controlling. They tie everything they say about him into the series past and Clementines goals.

  • Yup. I'm hoping the flashbacks become a bit longer as we find out what (hopefully) common goal she has in common with Javier. I rather like interacting with her as Javier, though. I wouldn't mind playing as her in the present but I'd like the season to build towards and culminate in them forming a group. That doesn't end with everyone dead lol.

    Where he said that?

Being able to play as Clem means less time playing as Javier.

  • Hope so. Then we might get the choice to tell someone about Lee.

  • I fucking hope so!!!

  • Not exactly though. Being able to play as Clem alongside Javier would add more content to the episode, not take away from playtime as Javier. Like with the flashbacks, just because we play as Clem doesn't mean we're losing playtime as Javier, it's just more content added to the episode.

I don't think we'll be playing her at all in the present. I just want her to have more screen time so I can fully gauge her character.

I love Clementine, but i don't agree. Javier should be able to be in the same game as her without players not caring/liking him just because he isn't her.

  • I don't think they will unless they cave into the pressure of a certain group of fans. I prefer Clementine but I think Telltale should stick to their original plans.

  • Meaning, i don't want to play as Clementine anymore. I want as much time playing as Javier as possible. I didn't say anything about not being able to play as him. I'm content and pleased with him getting most of the playing time and i don't want that to change.

  • I agree with the OP. Even in the first two episodes it's really only just dialogue and cinematic (correct me if I'm wrong). The only exception I can think of is when Clementine is escaping Wellington with AJ and she's grabbing items before she leaves.
Aside from a few prompts and QTEs, there isn't any real exploring and interacting compared with when you play as Javi.
I like Clementine, but to be honest I'm not as invested in her as most fans are. Lee is my favourite TWD character and he's dead lol I don't have any reason to dislike Javier just yet,
I don't think Telltale were intending for Clem to be the protagonist for this season, despite her being an occurring character. I think what will shock me more is if she gets killed off: Imagine the shitstorm then lmfao

  • I hope so. Instead of only being forced to play as Javier. It was a bad idea to only make Clem playable through flashbacks.

  • Happy Holidays! The answer depends on where TTG is headed with this story. I believe alot will hinge on Davids actions and if Clem is your Bartering chip or not. Right now we have just enough story "rope" to potentially "hang" ourselves with our choices. What if our choices have already killed both Javier and Clem. Granted this is'nt likely. But say we start Ep 3 with David a PC. Then we are in all new waters again. And the depth of this game just grew.

And here lies the main problem, clementine was pushed so much in advertising so people would buy the game yet its clearly a new story with new characters. Michonne obviously didn't get enough people interested so they knew clem had to be shoehorned in to get sales.

Thing is I want them to make new stories with new characters but this is just shady how they spun this to the fanbase.

  • I think it would make sense for her to be playable now.

    Think about it.

The flashbacks have done their job, they showed us what happened after the endings and how Clementine came to meet the New Frontier.

Now that she's either going to be imprisoned by the New Frontier/separated from Javier or finding another way through the tunnels, we have a perfect opportunity to play as her whether that's in the New Frontier camp away from Javi or sneaking into the camp to try and perhaps find AJ (if he is indeed in there).

  • I hope not. Playing as Javi is the most fun I've had with the walking dead game since season 1

The dude can be in the game however why does Javier and his family... need to hog 95% of the episodes playing time from the already established and far more popular main character.. Whom has been followed since the first episode and generally a well received character? I mean give the guy a chance if you wish. But I doubt he deserves nor earned 90% + screen time over Clementine out of nowhere.

I'd love to see the looks on folks faces if AMC pushed Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus down to barely involved supporting characters of say Morales, or Father Gabriel or perhaps just some random background Alexandrian. After all every one deserves equal spotlight opportunity right and some people might be tired of Rick and Daryl for 7 going on 8 seasons. This is the exact irrationality of Telltale with their "season 3" which I see why they call it New Frontier because it is more so a spin off with ultra glorified Clementine cameo appearances.

Or lets also go to the comic and take Rick and Carl out and replace them with James and Steve.. a couple farmer brothers from Dallas, Texas and have the comics suddenly focus on those two random guys instead of RIck and Carl. lol fans would be calling for Kirkman's head if he did something like that abruptly.

  • They should make it 50/50, play as Clementine and Javier in present day. I didn't like how they made Clementine only playable in those short ass flashbacks.

  • Michonne was only pushed because of the TV/Comic series. They thought it would bring mad sales and then it didn't. I didn't even buy it, had no interest.

Instead of making Michonne, they should have made a 3 part series tying up Kenny and Jane's story with Clem setting up the New Frontier. It could have ended by having the scene with Ava and Clem and then one final scene introducing Javier to the fans.

  • I don't mind playing as Javier but I'd love to play as Clem in present day.

  • They're gonna have to

  • What I and others have proposed is to leave it up to the player. If you take clementine to Richmond you play as Javier primarily in episode 3 vs letting clementine go and playing as her In episode 3 and possibly encountering different minor chars exclusive to Clems path and by episode 4 she reunites with Javier and the group. This way those who want to play as clementine can do that just as the people who want to play as Javier can do that too. I know this is too much to ask of telltale but wishful thinking.

  • I think there is better chance that someone from TTG will walk up to me and kick me in the shin than them letting us control Clem in the present.
