Wonder how Clem took down that tree?

Did she have a lumber axe and then put in her infinite spatial pocket after she took down the tree?

  • She kicked it down like the door in Season 2.

  • She used her shotgun and just kept shooting till it fell.

  • Maybe it had been dead for a long time, and she just chipped away at it with her hunting knife. Seems a little unrealistic, though.

You know, the first time through, I didn't really think too much about that scene. But now... you make a point.

An even bigger question is how did she plan this out? Did she just assume a car would eventually come down that specific road, and had the tree prepared to be knocked over? Was she just sitting there for a few hours, waiting for a car? Did she just hear a car and start sawing at the tree like a madman, managing to cut it down at just the right moment? Was it even planned at all?

    Fridge logic, I guess.

I think it makes some sense. She's desperate for a car for whatever reason (maybe to escape the New Frontier), so she almost cut the tree down all the way and waited for a car to steal. She wanted to force it to stop, and then take it at gunpoint.

I don't know how she planned on getting rid of the massive log in front of her newly acquired car, though. Would make a speedy getaway difficult.

  • I assume she saw the truck going to the junkyard, and then waited for it to come back.

  • I'd guess that since her overarching plan seems to be revenge against The New Frontier, she probably knew that one of their trucks would be traveling on that road towards Richmond.

  • I believe that she had left Alvin Junior at Richmond while she ran some errands somewhere else in Virginia, and now she needed a car to drive back. She is distressed when she learns that the New Frontier took over Richmond not only because they took over the community where were headed and she can't let them see her, but also because Alvin is inside and she won't be able to get her hands on him unless she takes a risk and tells Javi about Alvin's existence.

If I remember correctly, @Dont_Look_Back has a similar theory.

  • That's a good point. I just thought she was freaking out because she knew she was about to be exposed.

  • It was all part of her grand badass entrance, don't think too hard on it. ;D

  • Yeah there are many things we do not know before we throw shade on her plan...like how many vehicles travel that highway...how desperate was she?

  • I wonder why exactly she hasn't told Javier about A.J, that doesn't sound like a bad thing. If Javier was a family man, he'd sympathize with her.

    Initially, I did as well.

  • Well, I think how she knocked it down will remain one of lifes mysteries, as for the road all I can think of is she's been out there for a while. She's familiar with the location of the junk yard, which the New Frontier seemed to claim as they accused Javier of stealing from them. After all of that and the condition of the cabin with food supplies and a mattress that would probably pass as luxury that long into the apocalypse, I kinda assumed it was an outpost of sorts for them. Clem was a member, which would explain her familiarity with the location and she'd probably know the route convoys would take entering and exiting the area. IIRC Javier was being taken to their main settlement, and without means of communication I imagine there would be a a person/people sent out from the outpost or the main settlement for status reports.

    Just a theory.

  • Primer cord. She somehow got her hands on some.

  • Would that do it?

  • In the same way that Kenny survived where he should have actually died in season 1.

    l̶a̶z̶y̶ ̶w̶r̶i̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ Getting "lucky"

  • I also have a similar theory to this though it's more so to do with her running/hunting New Frontier down as opposed to just doing some favours, although that could be possible too.

I believe that she had left Alvin Junior at Richmond while she ran some errands somewhere else in Virginia, and now she needed a car to driv

  • Maybe the New Frontier have their own set of traps laid out and Clementine used it to her advantage.

  • Maybe she waited there for a few hours, waiting for a car to show up and she cut the tree partially so when the truck was approaching she cut it entirely, of course everyone probably knows, you can control the direction in which a tree will fall

  • She does not have an assault rifle with drum mag with 80 cartridges or a machine gun.
And it's not a little christmas tree.
She has a shotgun, good luck to cut a big tree with buckshot without lose all your ammunitions for no results.
When the tree falls we hear a sound like lightning.
(Therefore the most rational explanation it is Kenny who helps Clementine with her divine powers.)

  • She doesn't need to doing fall the tree at the last moment. The driver was surprised and is crashed.
She only wants to stop a car. She has to cut the tree on the road and wait for a car comes.
The car will slow down and stop, it's won.

"Character does something unnatural to show how badass she is" Cliche.

  • This is entirely theory based, so take it for what you will. I believe the New Frontier may have road paths they commonly take for travel, seeing as they have people spread out. Perhaps there's more than one outpost besides the junkyard. With these road paths, if on were to fall, they can head straight to the other outpost or the main headquarters instead.

I believe Clem may have been familiar with the road paths, and prepared for an ambush on them. She must have found equipment to use to chop down the tree, most likely having prior help from Tripp in an earlier day or so. So maybe she was preparing in advance and when she was just about to finish, the truck was coming and the tree "fell down slower than she thought."

  • I'm open to that as well!

With "ran some errands," I meant "did something else."

  • It fell naturally. Clem said she cut it to look more badass.

  • She used the Force. Jesus Yoda you should know that!
