A New Frontier: Weighing the Good vs the Bad

I've seen a lot of hate and negativity surrounding the first two episodes of A New Frontier. In general, most of the fans seem to be unhappy in one way or another. But I for one think that's it not all bad, and that Season 3 could still shape up to be pretty awesome. Below I've compiled a short list to remind everyone that the game has its share of both good and bad. Let's stay positive :)

The Good
1. Clem's back. And she's more badass than ever. (This can all be summed up by Javier's "Wait...you're a kid?")
2. Clem now has four customisable scars based on your Season 2 choices.
3. The playable flashbacks are heartwarming and heart wrenching. They have been written well and each contain their own little details.
4. Jesus. 'Nuff said.

The Bad
1. A few features have been removed from the game. Players can no longer rewind to a specific chapter and there are no "Previously On..." and "Next Time On..." segments.
2. The episodes are shorter than usual.
3. The transition between Clem and Javier isn't nearly as smooth as the transition between Lee and Clem, and so many players are struggling to get used to Clem as a background character or are siding with her by default. We also don't get to play with Clem a lot.
4. The secondary characters are so far pretty one dimensional. Most of them can be summed up with one sentence.

What do you think the good/bad qualities of A New Frontier are so far?

  • Javier talking about boners while smoking weed made the whole game to me, I didn't see anything wrong with the game after that line.

No, actually, I stayed with Kenny. But I've seen all the flashbacks, and I thought they were all beautifully written. They all have their own details/heartwarming moments. I suppose which one you prefer is ultimately personal preference, but I think that they were executed quite well. We all knew that Kenny/Jane would already be dead/would die in Season 3, and I think they wrapped up each of those arcs satisfactorily.

  • Glad you don't mind your choices mattering. And I don't think those flashbacks were beautifully written. They barely lasted 5 minutes each.

Getting rid of characters in 5 minutes is not wrapping up arcs satisfactorily.
