Let's give them a chance

A lot of people are rightfully upset at how season 3 has played out so far

But let's give telltale enough rope to hang themselves with

If the next 3 episodes are still short and shitty then we abandon them

Until then it isn't really fair to make a conclusion based on a fraction of a story

  • But If we wait until the end, then it would be too late to say anything to make the current season better.

  • That's a fact but what are the chances of them changing their gamelan for the rest of the season anyway ?

  • I personally don't think that Season 3 is that bad. There's a lot of things they did right, and there are things that can be improved upon. For example, fans would like the episodes to be as long as they used to be and for the chapter select, "Previously On" and "Next Time On" features to be added again.

But I do agree that if fans are unhappy with this, they should speak up. Perhaps Telltale will take their grievances into account in order to make the rest of the Season better.

Yes, cause this worked so much with everyone speaking up at the end of season 2 and saying there would be shit to pay if TTG ignored the choices presented to us. And look, in season 3 all our choices matter! They listened! Clem acts the same regardless of whatever ending we chose, but look she has different scars depending on the ending, so yeah. they listened.

They listened to the fans that TTG should only concentrate on the cannon ending which was Clem alone. And look what we got. Halfmade Kenny and Jane and Edith models. No attempt to animate the Wellington area outside what appeared in season 2. They listened.

  • Agreed
I've always trusted ttg when it comes to story writing
So i'll wait the rest of the season to see if it gets better :)

  • Wasnt really pleased with tftb ep1 or wd1ep1 either, but they both turned out to be their best yet

    Welp, it's something.

I'd be happy if they brought back those three features though, which is still very doable.

  • But as the Clem alone ending was what TTG wanted everyone to pick from the start, they won't. If they didn't bother animating them properly for a 5 minute flashback they won't appear again

I think that Telltale showed us the "Alone with AJ" version of Clem in the trailers because it was the most neutral option to show (especially for newcomers to the series -- and we all know that A New Frontier was designed as an entry point for new fans).

If you look at the official statistics (https://telltale.com/assets/bltf34f8a598a018406/unnamed__1_.jpg), player choice seems equally divided between the four possible endings (remember that "Clem Alone" includes both Clem alone with AJ and Clem and AJ at Wellington).

  • Actually, it was because Clementine Alone with AJ was the CANNON ending and the others where just fluff they had no intention of following on with.

Think about it. They continually pushed toward the alone ending at every point.

Kill Jane and shoot Kenny, Clem alone.
Kill Kenny and leave Jane, Clem alone.
Kill Jane and leave Kenny, Clem alone.
Kill Jane and go to Wellington, leave Kenny. Clem alone.

    Vs
Kill Jane stay with Kenny, leave Wellington.
Kill Kenny stay with Jane go to Howes.

And Clem acts the same in each scenario when we meet her again in Season 3 so ALone ending cannon. Other two just fluff. Then take into matter how badly Kenny, Jane and Edith were animated in the 5 minute flashback. There was no intention of having anything to do with those people after season 2 but they had to animate them because they still had to pretend our choices mattered.

  • I can't imagine why they just didn't make completely different season 3 versions to reflect our main choices at the end of season 2.

  • Because the only choice that mattered was Clem alone. It was the only one they were going to go with.

  • The animations for Edith, Kenny and Jane were a bit different. Kenny looked recognisable (I suppose it's the beard that does it) but I almost didn't recognise Jane at first because she got a re-design.

We all would've liked more time with Kenny/Jane, but Telltale has branded A New Frontier as a fresh start since the beginning, so unfortunately we all knew that our time with them would most likely be limited to small flashbacks. I just hope they don't kill Clem, too.

  • I suppose because it'd be extremely costly to have four separate games. Also, while some things are left up to the player there still needs to be some kind of over-arching canon than runs throughout the series.

  • Yeah, sorry my sarcasm didn't come across. There was no way ever that it could make any sense at all for Telltale to attempt to build a whole bunch of different stories for season 3 based on the choices at the end of ep2. Just wasn't going to happen. This is more about a failed attempt at creating different endings in S2 and then unrealistic expectations than anything in season 3.

  • A bit different? They didn't even try with Jane or Edith. In fact, if they'd gone with a different voice actor for Edith you wouldn't even know it's the same person. You mistake lack of effort into animating models that would only be in series 3 for 5 minutes for a re design. They'll kill Clem as Javier is the protag now and Clem isn't as important to this new start.

  • There is certainly time for improvement but since the sales are good and they have good reviews they'll just keep to what they were doing.

  • Oh yeah, we should start complaining when we just played 2 episodes.

    No thanks.

HOWEVER, I'm not gonna stop you and everyone else from playing their games. Go ahead and enjoy them.

  • I'm willing to wait to see how and why they implemented this story generator. Seems to be a pointless waste of resources if they do nothing with it.

  • They haven't and it is.

I gave them a chance and then they ruined it by having Conrad threaten to shoot Gabe regardless of whether or not you go along with his plan or not.

  • I already know most of our choices are completely inconsequential. Beside one line of dialogue, characters react the same way either way.
I'm more worried with episode length honestly especially after they considered those two episode to be too long.

  • Your right, better not getting my hopes up too much. She'll probably react the same way with only a line changing as always.

  • unfortunately i don't think that is quite likely.

I was kinda hoping Jesus would take them to Alexandria. Now that would get me interested!!!

Could you imagine going to see the likes of Rick and maybe even visiting Negan in his cell!!!

    Damn that would be great.

But no we get stuck with boring new characters with boring predictable plots.

  • It's tough to get past the first two episodes for a lot of people, especially those of us who have been waiting to continue the story since S2 finished two years ago, but it's a unique situation since the initial release doesn't really reflect the final product because of the episodic nature. If there isn't much of a change this may well be my last TT game, but there's still 3 episodes left and the first two seemed dedicated to the introductions and setting up the subtitle by bringing us to the NF group with the remainder of the season to focus on the main arc. Feedback is crucial to ensuring the devs know what fans aren't happy with, but prematurely judging the season doesn't seem appropriate until we see exactly where the final product ends. I'm hoping they can find a better parity going forward.

  • But they will be short and shitty lol. Telltale have been gradually getting worse as each new game comes out and this may not be a popular opinion but that is certainly how it is to me. I always compare TWD Season 1 to all the other games they have made after 2012 and you can just see the lack of quality involved in those games compared to S1. Telltale won't change now. They won't see our negative posts or will just ignore them. Sadly that is how it is now and this was the last straw for me as i won't be buying anymore from them.

  • Of course they won't see them. If you were trying to work on these games, would you read them? This place is a cesspool of negativity and Telltale can't win here. Even the wording on this 'give them a chance' post is full of hostility and a sense of entitlement. Trying to actually make something creative while having an endless stream of hate would be soul-destroying.

You're absolutely free to vent and discuss and say why it's not season 1 and why Kenny did whatever to you and why this is the worst Walking Dead ever but really don't expect them to read it at this stage.
