Controlling both Clem & Javier

If this was already a created discussion, then oops.

S3 Episode 1 & 2 would've been more enjoyable had we been able to play as Javier & Clem in similar fashion to Tales from the Borderlands' Rhys & Fiona.

Before Clem cut down the tree to block the path of the truck Javier was held hostage in, it would've been cool to play as Clem leading up to that point & we could've learned where she was before that. When Mariana was killed & we were presented with the choice to stay with Clem & fight, or go back to Prescott with Kate... had the player chosen to leave for Prescott, it would've been fun to play as Clem during the gun fight, then jump back to Javier after. Not only would that have been a cool little perk, but it would've added a little length to the episode.

Also, if you chose to shoot Conrad for whatever reason you had & Clem decides to travel to Richmond alone, that would've been another cool little perk for that decision. Proving that the game is tailored by how we play. Although I like Javier, it would've been more enjoyable for me, at least, to control both characters like TFTBL. As I mentioned, it would add length to the episodes as well.

  • I agree with you, but I kinda see why they did it. The first two episodes were kinda an introduction to the new characters, establishing who Javier is through your decisions, but also Clementines current state after the time jump. I'm not sure if Richmond is now their main camp, but if it is then the first two episodes essentially set up the primary arc the season will based on. I'd like to see more opportunities to play as her in future episodes if that's where we're at, though. It'd be nice to develop both of their sides in the confrontation before the endgame.

  • Or at least give us more flashbacks with S2 ending characters, so us old players can have some good moments too.

  • This is a great idea and I would love to see it implemented in the next couple of episodes to come. Hopefully...

  • With the way episode 2 ended with Clem either leaving or as their bargaining chip, i think it's possible we may control her in the next episodes either escaping wherever she ends up or sneaking inside Richmond.

  • I see what you're saying & I hope Richmond is their place to stay now. There'll be more room for a fresh story rather than the constant 'on the move' if it is.

  • Thanks. Here's hoping!

  • I remember when they first made it sound like they will be playable equally, not on an uneven scale... Then they said "It's really Javier's story" and then I had a funny feeling it would be the case.

Funny enough I was thinking they could've done that myself, just I also imagined Clem burying Mariana herself in Javier's place.

  • I guarantee if they made her more playable complaints would go down 90%

  • I can almost guarantee it. When a character is made playable one season, only to end up as an unplayable character the next, without either being killed off or their story ending, players will naturally become aggravated.
