What do you think of the graphics in S3?
Please restrict this only to discussion about the graphics, not the storyline, out of respect for those who may have not had a chance to play yet.
Personally, I think they suck! I'm not sure what TT was thinking when they came up for the new graphics, but in my personal opinion it's sucks dick big time.
In the words of Kenny: "What the hell is going on?" Or for those of you who were fans of Abraham: "What the shit?"
In my opinion, the last two seasons looked WAY WAY better, graphically speaking. I'm not sure if the animators were striving for realism or what, but the way everything looks now is just strange.
I'm sure the animators, the writing staff, the whole Telltale team worked their assess off on the new Season, but the graphics just don't look good. I'm sorry!
Comments
They're definitely way better.
Only thing that was jarring to me was Kenny's facial hair.
I actually like them, I feel like they bring more emotion how the characters, I do like the season 1 and 2 graphics but I think I prefer the new ones but hey that's just my opinion tho.
Love them.
I love them so much! I think they're better then season 1 and 2 graphics. You can see more emotion in their faces, Jane was a bit ugly tho
They're a vast improvement.
Apart from the models of Jane, Kenny and Edith, they're fantastic and I love them
The only problem I had were Kenny and Jane models, but since they didn't get more than five minutes on the episode, they obviously didn't care about how they looked.
I think that the graphics in this season look pretty good.
It depends on how you look at it. From the perspective of how far Telltale has come and their artistic improvements, I think the graphics look fantastic. From the perspective of a Walking Dead game, I kinda miss the stylized caricatures at times, but it's a worthy trade off in some ways too.
Ideally, Batman and New Frontier are Telltale getting in practice and showing off their new features, while in the future, games will still be stylized or realistic as they need to be.
I think the graphics look great. They look more realistic and more defined however there are still things that bother me. For instance, I find some character's eyes are odd (like Kate's) and I do find that the new look is farther away from the comic book style they went for in the past. All in all I find that it's a welcome change.
Pretty much everyone looks amazing in the new graphics, apart from Kenny, Jane, and Edith, who look like ass for some reason.
It would look great if it wasn't held back some issues. Mainly I experienced some black texture pop ins quite frequently over items and characters, especially during screen transistions. I also some very low texture resolution on small non important items. Like the cans in the van when Javier is driving in ep. 1. Also Jane and Kenny looked awful. Other than that, the game looks great. Especially Clementine, she looks amazing.
Ignoring the slur, I'd say the lighting is better than in all of Telltale's previous games, the models look better for the most part as well, but on lower settings, the lighting is horrendous, the eyes should not be darker than the skin in most cases, and the textures are bad for a lot of the models, especially where hair is concerned.
Personally, the best models belong to Kate (flashback), Gabe, Clem and AJ.
I like them for the most part. I just want to know when Kenny turned 60.
Other than Kenny, Jane and Edith's designs, the graphics are spectacular!
They're phenomenal. Telltale has come so far since The Walking Dead season 1. I don't know what game you were playing.
It was a long time coming.
Aside from Kenny's beard and Jane's model, the enhanced graphics are a vast improvement from previous titles, even, though, I miss the stylized caricatures at times, as Blind Sniper said. But you could even say that the new and improved graphics are the only redeeming quality to this season, or at least I could personally. However, the eyes appear to be much darker than their bodies (not necessarily Kenny and Jane) in certain scenes, specifically with Clementine.
I know. Kenny was only supposed to be in his mid forties, yet he looked 70, and a pretty ugly 70 at that!
I think some of the models' heads look way too small for their body, like kate and jane for example...so yeah I prefer old school comic telltale graphics!
Also this is unforgivable
I think they are severely lacking in visual fidelity. With consistently glitching and underwhelming animations, lacking detail, the inability to render crowds, low resolution backgrounds and extremely low resolution textures, with a large amount of visual bugs.
The fact Telltale has still not made a new engine is more than frustration, this does not look good in my opinion.
I really enjoy the improved graphics. Everything just feels smoother and pleasing to look. Although it is supremely jarring to see Jane and Kenny updated by the graphics, maybe because they didn't put as much effort into them. Thankfully Clementine managed to avoid this issue.
Love it. Jane is the only character model I don't like
I really really dont like it, it doesnt feel like the walking dead game at all. They had a cool art style before now its just looks ugly but still remains uncanny valley.
Extremely low resolution textures?
The graphics themselves are better BUT it changes the artstyle and it doesn't feel like The Walking Dead game at all. What I mean is even if the graphics are better I'd like the old ones more because it's their own artstyle and changing it is bad.
The reason Kenny/Jane models are shitty is because they are used only for like 5 minutes so it's no needed to put much effort into it and for those who might say that random NPCs have better models is because they are started from scratch and their models are original while Kenny/Jane's models were just a quick rework of the models. That's why they look "weird" to us. I guess new players won't notice that much, yeah the models themselves are shitty but not many new players will notice that since they didn't see the old ones.
But this new engine had less glitches and bugs than the previous ones.
Textures in Telltale games have been consistently blurry, low poly, and low resolution.
Well in my iPad the graphic of the game is really bad i don't know is because my iPad Air is old or not but i can't enjoy the story with low quality i hope they'll make an update for this
How do you feel about Kenny?
'Extremely low' my ass
This is extremely low:
You can't tell me that S3 is as bad-- or worse-- than that
That's a 128 x 128 texture. That is extremely low. Their current games use textures at least 4x larger, usually 8x or 16x larger. Some of them even higher than that. Maybe it's not up to par by modern standards, but it's by no means bad. At the very least, not as bad as it was in S1.
And those low poly zombies were all over the place in S1. And the game just loved doing close-ups on them, too
They aren't now, with Batman in ANF.
I'm not saying it's not better, it's definitely an improvement, I just don't think it's enough. The animations, details, and backgrounds are bigger problems at the moment. Season 2 literally had a wall that represented trees, vibrating hands, and identical walkers to season 1. An improvement over that isn't what I feel is satisfactory in this day and age.
That goes back into my problem with how Telltale develops lots of games at once, and doesn't put enough effort into them on a gameplay, storytelling, or technical level, instead of refining and polishing a game over a longer period (like most developers). Telltale is seriously falling behind in cinematography and animations even in relation to other independent developers.
When there is a telltale game where "typing" doesn't consist of low poly fingers glazing over a handrawn flat representation of a keyboard, I will be satisfied.
I haven't bought Frontier on principle, but Batman absolutely had a tonne of issues.
Looks okay to me.
ANF uses 1024x1024 & 2048x2048 textures, a major upgrade to S1's 128x128.
I dont like colour of it and when are we ever going to see a nice sunny summers day again?
His beard is gorgeous
Much better
That lovely and bright smile.
theyre better than before, but they could be better. i believe in you telltale, just make better graphics
They are better, but I´m not in because I want to see excellent GFX, mind you. I enjoy the stories, this is what matters.
