Clementines Swearing..

Surely I'm not the only person that whenever Clementine swears I low-key tell her off at my computer. When she first met Javi and she swore I was like woah there Clem, it's been a while but no swearing sweetie.

Everytime she swears it saddens me to know that she was surprised when Lee swore with her in the same room and now she's saying it willy nilly :(

  • I dont see what the point of her swearing like that is.

Its not cool and just makes her more unlikeable.

  • Maybe because she spent 5 years in the company of people that swear in every sentence they say? Maybe because she spent the last five years witnessing horrible stuff that would scar an adult before the apocalypse for life? Maybe because there's nothing wrong with fucking swearing for a while? You ever think of that? Noo right, she's a horrible unlikable character that you just have to bash at every turn.

  • I don't mind her swearing. But instead I find it kind of cute when she says swear words. It would've been not cool if she swore in front of Aj in the flashbacks but she didn't so I think its fine. And besides if she didn't swear now, it would just feel unrealistic. Like now she's a teen who's 4 years in the apocalypse and she's still following the S1- "no swearing rule". So yea I think its fine the way it is now.

  • That's what living 4 years among zombies mostly by yourself will do to you.

  • As if "swearing" is such a bad thing.

  • Swearing is wrong full stop and especially that sort.

  • Not that I have a problem with swearing, but I liked the tiny detail in Season 2 where she'd either go "shoot" or "shit" depending on your choices in Season 1. I liked that, it was a small, easy, yet natural way to have Season 1's choices matter. As far as I can tell, that's no longer a thing in New Frontier: She swears constantly regardless. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's disappointing, but it would have been cool if she swore more or less depending on the player's previous choices.

  • Who gives a shit if she fuckin curses, are we talking about the same person who has literally lost everyone? (except for the baby maybe)

I think she's earned the right to throw a fuck or a shit here and there

  • Shane hates everything and everyone.

  • Even in real life, swearing is not a bad thing in my opinion. Humans simply are fuqed up creatures and you need certain words which express certain feelings that you can't express with soft words.

  • I'm gong to be honest, whenever I hear Clem swear, I actually find it kind of adorable. It's also kind of funny, I guess in an ironic way, that this girl who always said "Swear" when Lee said something bad now has the mouth of a sailor. It makes me kind of want a sort of non-canon, DLC episode where, somehow, S3 Clem is taking care of S1 Clem, just so we can really see the difference between the two. I feel like the interactions would be hilarious.

  • She picked up on it. I mean after hearing Kenny swear up a storm, I wouldn't be surprised. Kids are bound to swear when they age.

  • I dont mind it. It think it's kind of cute sometimes. Its not like she has a trucker mouth and just lets rip whenever she feels like it. It just comes out when she's stressed. Like has been pointed out, everyone around her swears so of course she's going to pick it up.

  • There is nothing objectively wrong about swearing. Thats a full stop.

No. I work with kids and a lot of them are reluctant to swear and treat others that curse with clear contempt. Kids swear mainly to attract attention or rebel againts adults/society.

  • After having to kill and rob people, watch everyone she cares about die and basically need to adapt to a shitty world starting from the young age of 8 I'd say swearing is the least of her problems.

    Let her vent.

It makes me cringe. I get why it makes sense for her to swear, but some of it just feels forced.

  • Swearing is fucking harmless.

  • I wasn't bothered by the swearing. When it was mentioned she cursed I was worried Clem would just become another Ellie double with a potty mouth. But fortunately Clemmy doesn't over do it and times she does curse seem justifiable.

  • Don't you fucking swear!

  • Seems unnecessary and out of character from the girl I knew in S1 and 2. I understand though, it's the ZA and she is constantly surrounded by people who don't care what they say. Whole world turns to hell, but it doesn't mean we can't be civil. *drinks tea and adjusts monocle

  • Just as an interesting aside, swearing was very rare in society until a generation's worth of young men went to fight in WW1....life in the trenches and seeing your friends mowed down by machine guns when you were ordered to charge the enemy trenches sort of put life in perspective. Swearing was not so bad and let the soldier vent. Of course when they returned from war it was hard almost impossible to change back. Same thing in WW2 and the Vietnam war. Seeing so much death and losing so much really just lessons the impact of social norms.

  • I don’t mind Clem swearing, and like someone else pointed out, she seems to only swear when she’s under stress. Honestly, I think it’s a sign of maturity considering how she was in season one when the apocalypse started. And for my Clem, it almost makes sense. In my first play-through of season two, I had her leave with Kenny … and well, we all know he had a sailor’s mouth. I think it goes to show that perhaps the people around her played some kind of influence in her upbringing.

  • Remember in Season 2 ep 1 she only swears if lee swears in S1 Ep 1. But I guess they changed that. But personally I have no problem with Clementine swearing. It also makes sense for how much her character grows in the apocalypse.

  • Swearing is proven to lower stress. Clem can use all the swearing she can get.

  • No. I work with kids and a lot of them are reluctant to swear

Do you happen to work where there's no internet access and the kids arent exposed to much or something? Goodness, where I live, I see 2nd grades dropping the F-bomb. I guess it really depends on the environment, and we all know the kind of environment Clementine is in.

Yeah, Clementine needs to be tough, so it's probably why she tends to swear, 'cause words are the direct representation of one's intentions.
