"You good?"

>Talk to Conrad, whose wife was just murdered, possibly due to Javier's recklessness

Javi: You good?
Conrad: Nah, man. I'm not good.
Javi: I know.

Great fucking conversation. I can see why Javier would have asked that, given that he already knew the answer, and that Conrad blames him for his partner's death. It really almost feels like two human beings are actually interacting with one another. Easily the second most powerful exchange in the entire series, second only to

  • I see it as Javier wanting to try to talk to him, but then he realizes it's a bad idea halfway through, so he awkwardly cuts it off by saying "I know"

Don't tell me you never tried starting a conversation with someone, realized it was stupid halfway through, then had to figure out a way to get out of it

  • Sure, but this exchange doesn't come off as one of those, to me. If Javi had ended it by like, rubbing the back of his head and saying "Okay, that was a stupid question..." or something like that, then sure, I'd buy that. But instead he just gives a rather matter-of-fact "I know," which comes off less like an intentionally awkward remark and more like a poorly-thought-out line in the script.

For that matter, starting it off with "you good?" is a pretty weird way to put it, too. "How you holding up?" or even "You okay?" would be more realistic ways to start the exchange. They'd still be awkward and stupid questions ("How the fuck do you think I'm holding up?"), but they'd come off as a little more natural.
