Like I said, I get all that, it just comes off as cringey and unnecessary to me. (For example, I know a lot of people found it funny but I hate how she said "they're all fucking walkers, okay?!") It's one of the reasons why I couldn't stand Ellie from The Last of Us. Granted, Clementine isn't nearly as bad as her, but still. Just an unpopular pet peeve of mine.
I take no issue with Clementine's swearing. It makes sense, considering the world she grew up in and some of the more...foul-mouthed people she has encountered. I actually felt that Ellie's swearing suited her well-enough, but that level of vulgarity would not have suited Clementine in my opinion. It doesn't feel forced or over the top or cheesy or ultra-badass hip here, at least to me. It feels natural for a girl her age, surrounded by such a stressful and influential environment. Now if she were like the fishes in Rock Bottom and said "fuck" instead of doing that weird tongue noise between each word, then I'd have an issue.
"I fuck need fuck AJ fuck to fuck speak fuck." Yeeeaaah, that just sounds wrong.
Or maybe he just disagrees with the usage of profanity? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I, for one, agree with him in that Clementine is becoming an unlikable character to me because of it.
Maybe because she spent 5 years in the company of people that swear in every sentence they say? Maybe because she spent the last five years … morewitnessing horrible stuff that would scar an adult before the apocalypse for life? Maybe because there's nothing wrong with fucking swearing for a while? You ever think of that? Noo right, she's a horrible unlikable character that you just have to bash at every turn.
Even in real life, swearing is not a bad thing in my opinion. Humans simply are fuqed up creatures and you need certain words which express certain feelings that you can't express with soft words.
iirc It's scientifically proven that swearing will reduce pain and relieve stress. So it's reasonable when Clem sweared in the "Alone" ending flashback because it did look pretty painful for her.
I just think Telltale could've transitioned into her swearing a bit more. If they added more swear words gradually throughout Season 2, it would be a lot moe easy on the ears for ANF.
I fucking love when Clem swears. I swear quite a bit and so do all the people around me, so I don't mind it or find it as annoying/rude as much as other people here seem to do?
Clem seems to only swear under 2 circumstances: when she's VERY stressed out/in pain, or when someone really pisses her off. (Calling Javi a fucking traitor and cussing out Conrad) And both of those situations are very understandable situations to curse at.
I'm actually making a gif set of (some of) the times Clem can swear in A New Frontier. Preview:
I don't mind it. In fact, I love it. Everyone else swears, so why can't she? None of these people around her are her parents, so it's none of their business. It's a natural form of expression. Plus, I chose all of the options for her to swear in season 2 lol, including "you're fucking crazy."
I started swearing at about 11 (bad, I know), and I wasn't even in a zombie apocalypse. :P

That among other things, yes. The New Frontier were even once regarded as being decent people, but now they have become something else. And you know what? The same can be said about Clementine, honestly. She was once an innocent young girl, but now she has become something else.

Of course she has become something else. Anyone who stays innocent under the circumstances ends up like Sarah. That doesnt mean what she has become is a bad thing. She is, above all things, a survivor. That might mean she has to grow up a little faster than she wants to, and not be this innocent little girl she was when she was eight.

I was the same way she was when I was eight and now I swear a lot. The difference is she's been through literal hell on earth before she was able to grow up and on top of that everyone around her cusses all the damn time. What the hell did you expect?
I don't feel like she swore alot in my playthrough. But maybe I was just holding her up to my standard, I have to actively watch my words when I'm talking around my nieces lol
You can still be a survivor and not lose a part of yourself. When becoming something else, it may not always mean that what a person has become is a bad thing, but in the case of Clementine here I would say that it is. Anyone who doesn't rationally think, like Clementine, when she murdered a man who gypped her out of properly functioning bullets, they put themselves in a situation similar to the situation with the stranger in the first season. That's just one of the many bad situations due to poor judgment.

It's the walking dead. For anyone to be innocent and still alive is extremely unrealistic. No one's inncent and the world isn't gonna make Clem an exception.
To me, what's really unrealistic is for everyone to be self-absorbed, emotionless beings, who somehow haven't made enough enemies to end up on the chopping block, especially with the possible cutthroat personalities around them. That's really unrealistic. The "survival of the fittest" type of mindset can be expected from some in a zombie apocalypse, but it shouldn't be a reoccurring theme for almost every remaining survivor. That's also really unrealistic.

You're like many others, but you're not like all others. Meaning, that not everyone was like you, myself for example. Which of course, could mean that Clementine is like you in this instance, but she seemed vastly different from your average 8-year-old if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, I can understand growing up in a bad environment that negatively affects your behavior, but to use that as an excuse for being extremely callous and careless with your words, is foolish. Imagine if I used that excuse for every murderer who brandished a weapon and proceeded to kill someone with no remorse. Oh, they had a bad upbringing and because of it, found it necessary to kill everyone in sight. It's not a legitimate reason for their actions.

I just want to say I don't think swearing is particularly bad and that's not why I made this post, I made this post because I just wanted to know if anyone else got sad or upset when you heard Clem swearing every sentence because I know I did
Well, she has some issues and she carries a certain attitude about her, but when I told her the candy bar was for my niece she gave it back instead of taking it because tough shit. She carries herself in a very guarded way because she's far too young to have lost as much as she did, but there's still hints and glimpses of that caring girl from the first two seasons. She's under that icy exterior, it just doesn't show because she's determined not to make herself vulnerable to that kind of loss again.

That wrench girl, right?
Her character was too good for TT to just kill her like that I hope she is coming back.
She was like beta version of Jane
She is Clementine, so even her swearing is cute...
And no, this comment is not sarcastic.

Her swearing sounds like music to me.
Sorry world, I'm a bad, bad, bad mother.

Neither did I. virtual high five
i knew this bullshti was coming, but later than expected.
In that case, I can express my frustrations without resorting to profanity, while at the same time getting my point across.
"Clem? Say "fuck it" again pls. "

"Okay, mom. Fuck it."
"Awwww, that's my sweet girl"
hahahahaha
That is hilarious.

don't you ever say that Clem will forever be Lee's sweet pea
Really? Just because she sad a few bad words?

Damn, I remember being about 7 years old and swearing at my dad when I got upset at him. Funny times.

"Fuck you dad, I want to be a firefighter"
Y'all need to chill the fuck out with all this cursing. Fuck, man.
Look at the world, she didn't have any choice but to become someone else. She had to become something else.
I was the same way she was when I was eight and now I swear a lot. The difference is she's been through literal hell on earth before she was able to grow up and on top of that everyone around her cusses all the damn time. What the hell did you expect?

She didn't have to become anything, in all honesty. But she surely didn't have to become something worse.
Fucking hell then I must be Einstein

YOU RUINED IT
She's 13. I think most of us were swearing around that age.
