That was one hell of a van

So if we assume Javi and co have been driving around in the same van for 4 years strait, I gotta say thats one hell of a van. Even in 2002 that van was already old and if they have basically been driving non-stop for 4 years and have had no catastrophic breakdowns. That is greatest van of all time. Its more than just a simple matter of finding gas. They're also gonna need Oil, ATF fluid, Break fluid, a new battery. Plus parts, break pads, fuel pump, spark plugs, etc. Many of which will be specific to that model. Then there are tires, they would have had gone through at least 5 sets by now, plus they need a spare or two, they basically would have had to find 30+ tires, which would be specific to that van.

Then there is the matter of gas, even if were being generous, that van wasn't getting better than 15 mpg, more like 10 mpg if were being realistic. That's a lot of gas to siphon.

  • Is this the daily van appreciation thread?

In all seriousness though, it'd be more interesting if Javier and his family were to be actually surviving, scouting, etc instead of just smoking weed and making a supply stop.

  • Everybody keeps talking about how sad Maris death was, but I don't see anyone mourning that poor van :(

Thank you, van. You done good.

  • There's always time to appreciate a good, quality van. Javier's family had a damn good one, too.

Honorable mention also to Tripp's van, making the ultimate sacrifice to get Kate to Richmond.

    Forever in our hearts.

  • Suspend your realism a bit. This is a universe where average women like Michonne and Molly become super-strong ninjas, and super-slow zombies somehow managed to defeat a country that has the world's strongest military and the most civilians with guns.

They could have very easily fixed that by simply having them in a different van in present day. Then you can just make the natural assumption that they've gone through multiple vehicles over the years.

But I doubt the writers were too focused on making sure their van knowledge was accurate. I don't think they brought in a registered van-ologist to fact check.

  • You can see that the van is riddled with bullet holes, patched using scrap metal, the front bumper barely hanging on, duct tape all over it so yeah it looks like it's been trough some things

Here, I made a tribute image for Javier's van.

  • I am not sure about my feelings about that van but for a van i think trip's van is way cooler

  • I am doubting their general ability to survive at all, even less so maintaining the van, considering as soon as we see them leave the van, one of them gets killed and one of them gets shot, after Javier gets taken away by The New Frontier.

Javiers family honestly seems so incompetent, I am astounded that they havent tripped over a rock and killed themselves on the teeth of a dead walker, I mean come on, they literally all run through bullet rain of hell, to get to a dead body, they have been in that shit for 4 years, come on now.

  • My guess is the writers forgot they had survived for 4 years already..
