Why do you hate School/Why did you hate School?

Let me know why you guys hate School or if you finished School, tell me what you hated about it.

Before I worked at Gamestop, I always hated the thought of waking up in the morning just to go to some fucking shit school and come back learning things that I'll forget later on when I grow up.

  • Because I'm too cool for school.

I hated school because i was the typical goth nerd who people picked on and because i was looked down on because i was white. (My hometown was 90% Hispanic, 5% white and 5% other when i lived there.)

  • I hate it because it's the literal definition of repetitive and pointless. I learn shit, pass the grade, go to the next one and repeat all steps in this order all over again. It's...boring.

  • I actually miss highschool, if you can believe that. I really liked most of my teachers and I was finally coming out of my shell in the last couple years of it and was making friends. Of course there were times I hated it, but that was mostly because of bullies. Once there was some bullshit slap a student day event on Facebook and somebody gave me a really hard slap from behind and put it on Facebook, I had to put up with that for a few years, but despite that I have great memories of school.

  • Yeah, I went through that hell to get a decent job.

Aaaand look where I am now..

All that hard work for nothing.

I hate high school already because half the shit we learn is so useless, and then there is homework (currently in the 9th Grade)

I didn't hate high school that much, but I absolutely loathed middle school. Everyone there was an asshole and the teachers didn't do shit about it. They basically just threw up their hands and said, "Fuck it. I'm retiring in a decade anyway." Several of my friends were bullied (a couple even to the point of attempting suicide) and the admins took the bullies' side. (I wasn't bullied personally. I stayed under the radar since I was that one kid who just kinda kept to himself and didn't bother anybody.) But because of the experiences my friends had to go through, I just have such a lack of respect for that school. Couldn't be more glad to be rid of it. The beyond unoriginal and immature jokes as well as the teenage boys making female orgasm noises for some reason finally ceased in high school. So I thank God for that.

  • I finished school years ago and didn't really hate it. The things I disliked the most about it was too much homework and bossy teachers.

School is just hard work and it's depressing honestly, the same routine every day, unrelenting. Primarily, the reason I dislike school so much is the massive amount of homework issued daily, if I already go to school around 8 hours a day, I don't want to spend more time practicing every trivial subject at home where I should be doing whatever I please. I'd wish they could realize we want an actual escape from school when we get home, not a continuation of studying, completing assignments, and projects. So at the end of the day, I do about a total of 11 hours or sometimes even a few more hours extra, of school plus homework. Yes, I understand that working problems and studying helps comprehend subjects, but I'm merely listing why almost everyone resents school; it's a dreadful experience.

  • I agree with you Lee

I hate high school already because half the shit we learn is so useless, and then there is homework (currently in the 9th Grade)

  • School teaches you the most useless shit ever, most of it you will never use, especially common core bs.

  • I'm currently in school, and I found Year 10 to be the most dull and boring year in my life (aside from English). One of the subjects offered to Year 9/10 students is Thinking Socially, which is all about looking at either current or past social and world issues. The problem is that there's no real debate or discussion around any of these issues (aside from the debate we did in Year 9, which was limited to just two topics). For a subject that was meant to involve thinking about social issues, nobody was under any obligation to challenge anyone else's viewpoint or defend their own. A real waste of potential.

  • Because a piece of paper cant decide my future

  • The people.

Example. In England, we have chavs. I would be sitting down ready to learn. But because the teachers won't start till everyone stops talking you have the chavs constantly causing problems. Then when you want the attention of the teacher they are literally trying to stop the chavs. Too many of my lessons were cut short by these people.

Too many fights at breaks, vandalisim, bullying. My school was appauling.

But when I go and do works weekly bank in town and you see the same people hanging about, that dont have a job, the typical non worker. It makes me happy that they've failed. Even though my taxes are probably contributing to their lazy asses...

  • Well, I didn't hate school/high school, I just hated some teachers and almost all the kids. I went to a high school near a bad neighborhood and I was the 'I will help everyone if they ask me' type so it went from them asking me nicely to them taking it as if it was their right to do so. Plus, them saying I was stupid if the homework they took from me wasn't 100% correct. ++ if you really wanted to participate in the class they would've laughed at you either way.
It wasn't a great experience for me...but at least I found someone there with whom I remained friend.

  • Teachers were aholes, pupils were aholes, some were bullies (where this shit comes from?), class terror, boredom, math, examines, stress, learning things that I would never need in my life, PE (f*** sport), homework (-bringing school home), waking up early..

It makes me want to cry. My good teachers get yelled at and basically abused by the students. I can't learn much because people never shut up. People think it's funny to make loud noises around me to see me jump or flip out.

On Friday, my math teacher tried to stop a fight from happening in the class, and some kid called her a "pussy ass bitch".

On Friday, 2 girls called my catholic history teacher "hypocritical bitch" because she expressed in interest in other religions.

On the bus, I've been punched, hit, kicked, and called fat, ugly, and bitchy white girl.

The girl who told me to kill myself in the 7th grade drove another girl to suicide last year (You want proof? I'll link you to the news article!) and hasn't had any consequences so far. Her victim was a 14 year old girl.

I go to an arts magnet school and all people give a shit about is football.

    Need I go on?

Edit: to be clearer, my history teacher is a catholic Christian. I do not have a class on catholic history.

Why did I hate school? Oh boy. Grab your popcorn, grab some refreshments, and let's pray to god this doesn't become a novel in terms of length. I apologize in advance for this huge rant.

    (TIME MACHINE NOISES)

When I was in the 7th grade, I was a garbage student. Smartass, never did my work, etc. I wasn't violent or a bully, but I was very defiant at the time once it came to being told what to do. Well, this problem only persisted as the year progressed. So much so that the faculty elected to do what I still consider the worst thing to ever happen to me. I was placed into a program for troubled kids. It was within my actual school so my friends still "saw" me. More on that later.

You know how in Season 2 of The Walking Dead Game, Carver kept Reggie in a certain place of Howe's while making him earn his way back? This is sort of what this class was like, but just a tad bit worse.

The program isolated me from all students and teachers within the school. I remained in a single room for most of the day, and only left to piss. Y'know...during the scheduled times that it was okay to piss, and only when they would escort me to the restroom. That's right. I had to be escorted everywhere I went. Sorta tied in with the whole isolation thing. No freedom to get a drink of water or get a library book without one of the program teachers on your ass. We'd have to stand in a single line for the restroom, and the teachers would watch us as each student walked into the restroom. Sometimes my entire grade would walk by us to go to lunch or wherever, and everyone would see me standing there in captivity...it was so humiliating. Puking from sickness didn't get you out either...I'd know. This was because there was a supposed past student that could throw up on cue, so I guess we lost the right to go home for it thanks to that little fucker. But I'm getting off track. There was a level system that we had to abide by. It went from Level 1 to Level 4. Level 1s were allowed nothing. You can't fucking go anywhere, can't see anyone. You'd be lucky to wave at your friends during the dreaded piss line that I mentioned earlier. Level 2s if my memory serves me correctly had a little more freedom, but they were still doomed to being stuck in that class room for a majority of the day. You had to earn your way out through the incredibly unforgiving level system. Level 3 was the promised land. Outclasses, getting to bring your lunch to school, getting to go to lunch, getting to see your friends etc. The not bringing lunches policy actually made me lose a few pounds, since I refused to eat the school food. These were just some of the rules that this shitty place had, and they're all that I can remember right now.

"But Sloaning? You were a bad student. Doesn't that mean you deserved this whole thing?"

Under normal circumstances, absolutely. But not in this case. Did I deserve placement in this program? Sure. I sucked. Throw me the fuck away, I deserved it. Did I deserve to rot in there, though? Fuck. No. The length of time I spent away from my friends... the time I spent away from basic social interaction that kids need was something that I was deprived of and that set me back a few years socially. I had to completely learn how to socialize all over again. It mentally corroded me and completely ruined who I was as a person for how long I was locked in there. Did it fix me to where I always did my work? Yes, but at what cost? My happiness, basic feelings of joy were all purged and replaced with cynicism and a feeling of paranoia that the world was out to get me. This stopped of course, but my psyche was in complete turmoil.

Towards the end of 8th grade, I finally made it out. My friends were really nice and made a huge deal out of it, cheering at the table when I came back, pulling my chair up for me like a true king, and just comforting me overall. But later, they told me that I seemed different. Like I was a completely different person to them. They described me as "hollow". That right there, throughout this entire year and a month long horror fest...is what horrified me the most. My theories of "what if this place changed me" and so on were true. I went on to high school which resulted in me making more friends and everything and while I'm completely over what had happened in there, the origins of why I have cynical thoughts and why my default attitude is a negative one all trace back to my placement in that program years ago.

And that, TheVigilante...is why I hated school.

On another note about the "all people give a shit about is football" comment...

Yep. Almost every American high school is fucking obsessed with it. No bullshit, its been this way since the late 19th century and unfortunately my high school was no exception to this tradition. Things in school can get better for you and that is what I ultimately hope for, but the football part isn't changing for shit. :D

  • Lol, yeah. All they care about is the football team. Football team gets the workout room (no one else), football team gets a charter bus to games (the marching band gets a cheese wagon and a moving truck), football team gets pep rallies 2 or 3 times a month when that time could be spent on valuable class work, they get new equipment when the rest of us don't even get paper.

I'm a pianist and they can't even afford to get my piano (which has a broken key!) a pedal, but they can afford all this other shit for the football players.

Hey, guess what? I just remembered that I have one more story. Don't worry, its not nearly as long. This one actually somewhat proves why school is shit once and for all.

My Junior year of high school, I got sent to the vice principal's office for a reason I don't remember. Anyway, this VP was a nice guy. Sure I'm still getting punished, but he was the type of guy to give you a half hour long conversation before he sent you on your way. He asked me what I wanted to do with my life and I told him. He smiles and says that's interesting. He figured I'd "wanna be in entertainment since I was a choir kid and all." But then things took an...existential turn.

He leans forward on his desk and sorta folds his hands. "Its really good that you still have your creativity. I mean, usually we try to wipe that out by the second grade."

I shit you not, to my face, that is exactly what this man said. I always bitched and complained about school not allowing for creativity and being super limited in what we did, but for someone in that high of a branch to just tell me the truth like that was such a jaw dropping experience. He explained it a bit more and that was that. We had a friendly goodbye and then I left.

Words cannot describe the thousand yard stare I had as I walked down the hallway after leaving.

  • It's a meaningless waste of life.

  • I miss school. Work is hard.

  • It was the same damn thing every day. Wake up really early in the morning, learn about trivial and pointless topics that won't help you in your life, deal with assholes, get bullied by said assholes, have constant tests and quizzes, stupid kids, and of course homework.

  • Pretty much the same reason as me, except I'm a sophomore.

I hate high school already because half the shit we learn is so useless, and then there is homework (currently in the 9th Grade)

  • Well at first it was just boring to learn stuff until middle school came and I realized what a dick people became people beating kids up just because they thought it was cool and girls thinking everything that happened in thier life mattered in everyone else's it wasn't really the classes it was just the kids.

  • Being forced to wake up at a certain time 5 days a week
Being forced to associate with scumbag teachers and students
Learning a bunch of stuff you don't care about and aren't going to remember in later life
Having around 7-8 hours of your freedom taken away 5 days a week
Not really getting to know a lot of people as they are putting on an act and behave totally different outside school in the real world

Personally I think the whole concept of school is just really dated, especially when you look at how much the world today has developed. Gotta laugh at the above comment that people who hate school should learn to appreciate life. It's because I wanted to appreciate life that I considered the majority of school a waste of time.

  • basically:

    • in my first school, teachers didn't want to help me because they didn't like me. i don't know why they didn't and honestly i couldn't care but at the end of the day you can play favorites all you want but your job is to help every student there. i also recently found out i have dyslexia so add that and no wonder i'm legit thick as shit.
    • the obnoxious asshats who go there. i used to get bullied where it got to the point my anxiety and depression got that bad i started having anxiety attacks and crying myself to sleep. they've also been part the reason why i have social issues because i'm too scared to make a conversation with people in case i get shit.
    • i get treated unfairly too. i have this one teacher who legit fucking hates my guts. once i accidently slipped up and swore during class so i got moved back of the classroom and then again because some kid made shit up just for the sake of it. someone else does it, she looks at them and shrugs it off. also she tells me off for "not doing my work" when clearly... i am?
  • I loved school and almost all of my teachers. The only reason that I hated some aspects of school was mostly due to bullies and annoying kids. I can still remember to this day that I loved to raise my hand and answer the teacher's questions, not out of pride, but out of having a passion for education. I was ridiculed and called a teacher's pet. It upset me so much that I turned down the opportunity to be a member of the school's History debate team. Basically it was similar to Jeopardy were the school's best represented their school against other schools.

My grades continued to rise, yet I was unhappy. I just wanted to be accepted and I got in with the bad crowd and started doing various natural and man made drugs (artificial pot and LSD) and lots of alcohol. I got into trouble constantly and finally grew out of all of that. I want to teach fourth or fifth grade and I regularly talk online to my old favorite teacher from high school.

  • Common Core bs. Common Core was invented long after I had completed school and it's a disaster. I learned about it after helping my niece and nephew with their schoolwork. It takes all of the fun out of learning and makes it more difficult than it should be.
