So, how did the story generator turn out?

Since some people have played the game already... what are your thoughts on how the story generator was implemented /if the questions allowed for an authentic version of your Clem / did you feel it affected your story?

If you could discuss these without direct spoilers at least till everyone has the game it would be appreciated.

  • *Also if you're satisfied with the "cluster" you fell into and if it accurately reflected the way you played S1 and 2

  • Nope. Dialogue and situations carry on either way.

  • It turned out to be terrible, by the looks of it.

You're not sorted by clusters, but by endings.

  • From what I've seen, clusters don't even exist.

  • I keep having to laugh at myself for expecting telltale will respond to fan feedback. Makes it hard to be optimistic generally about their games unfortunately :/

  • Did people who imported their saves also get one of those headings like "greater good" etc.

  • Clementine doesn't change at all, it only changes the first flashback (4 variations depending on your S2 ending), well let's just say, everyone thought the first one sucked. On aside note, pretty sure most of us want to play as Clementine, not just have her there as a side character you can play 5 minutes per episode in a flashback that's going to be the same for everyone after the first one. It's really disappointing, she'll do the same things no matter what you choose, so there's no variety at all.

  • I can't remember but I don't think so, I think it just said my ending. I know I didn't get any summary with my imported save unlike with the generator.

  • It's basically to determine what kind of character Clementine is by the end of season 2.

Hopeful: You tried to do the right thing, asked smart questions etc...

Even tempered: Despite all the chaos in the world you didn't let it change you.

By any means necessary: You did whatever you had to do to survive.

There are more, but I don't remember all of them.

Personally I really like it, it's a good way to determine how your Clem ended up and it's fun to play around with.

  • I hope you realize there were no real changes, no matter how hopeful or pragmatic you make her, she does the same exact things with the same dialogue.

  • Clementine is a poor protagonist. It is what was wrong with Season 2.

I hope they stick with Javier. Child characters just do not work as lead characters in a post-apocalyptic setting.

  • I hope they don't. Playing as Clementine was a unique experience and seeing her become more capable and evolve as a character would be much more interesting than playing as another athletic youthful male in a post apocalyptic setting. He seems so generic compared to Lee or Clementine.

  • An 8 or 9 if noit at 10. Just my opinion, I don't have the issues with this game that a lot of others have.

  • Some of the questions require a crazy level of memory. Even the first question - my Lee taught Clem a LOT of things. I'm not certain which rose to the top because that may have caused leanings in dialogue but wasn't a plot point that I could remember clearly. So even from that first question, I wasn't sure it would ever reflect my choices. So I waited until I could get the old save working (it was just poorly explained but worked fine once I got it figured out).

Obviously an issue is how much any of it matters and that remains to be seen but even the system alone for me doesn't seem like the best way to do it. Maybe the older games could generate a code or something so there is no doubt whatsoever that the same parameters carry through the games.

  • Same. Was asked maybe seven questions total, chose the Kenny ending, Clem ended up with a missing finger.

  • It turned out to be nothing but a clusterfuck of bullshit.

  • Job J Stauffer mentioned something about how the Carver choice was going to have an impact on Clem this season. I wonder how they'll implement that considering it wasn't even one of the questions in the story generator?

Instead of the story generator, they should have just made an option where you could manually put in your choices from the previous seasons.

Hell no, she was probably just as great to play as like Lee in my opinion, now that she's even stronger and more capable to add onto it (playing her in season 2 was also really fun as you can't underestimate walkers all the time), I'd play her over Javier in an instant, it's just dumb playing someone I care nothing about nor do I even think about his family.

We all had optimism for this new season, and it turned horribly, Clem has already made some pretty important decisions and guess what, they're not effected. She's probably just going to be a static character like her flashbacks from now on.

  • it had cool pictures

    ... :D

  • I liked how they portrayed Lee as a wise man in the generator. Lee taught Clem the importance of community; survival etc.

Because that totally happened in the game...

  • I feel like people won't truly realize how poorly made the story generator is until we actually start seeing choices matter in later episodes.

Why is this? Most decisions aren't even being accounted for, the game is just assuming most of your choices based on which "starting point" you are in. Depending on my first few responses, I can answer entirely different decisions than someone who chooses their first responses differently. To top it off, Kevin Bruner said that Clem watching Carver or not would come into account several times before the season is up, yet there is literally to way to tell the game which decision you made. It just assumes based on your playstyle. I don't know about you guys, but often my decisions are contextual and I don't do the same general behavior in every single instance. Things are going to get so messy and uncomfortable when the game starts assuming the opposite decisions for many players.

Telltale should have just provided a quick checklist of all the decisions that will matter throughout the season and allow us to just click what we decided. Instead we have this wonky story generator that honestly does not account for very many decisions at all.

  • Yeah I showed my friend ANF the other day, and the story generator made him say wtf. "Community, survival, self-preservation, etc".... yeah as if we had an option to actually give her an opinion about any of those things besides survival.

  • Yeah i see what you mean. i like it but so far its only recieving a 7.5/10. Clem being called a playable charachter is a complete joke haha. Episode time is a complete joke. The flashbacks were a complete joke.

The charachter devoplment is... Decent. I do care about the garcia family and the prescott group. but it could have been better.

I think they are going to take fans in to consideration for episode 3. i hope. i think its going to be a longer episode too. i hope.
But its still not terrible. the 3 points i mentioned where why i didnt like the episode. also I do see they are implementing more hubs. how about implementing puzzles in to the game? easy and a cowards way to increase episode run time.

Honestly I have to laugh at the fact that no matter how many times I get disappointed by Telltale I always end up believing them and being disappointed every time a new game comes out. It's like i'm stuck in this gullible circle that I never learn from.

  • In my second playthrough, I went with the story generator. I liked the questions, but I didn't really like the result. To sum the choices up, resources are a priority, survival, and she stayed at Wellington. But Clementine didn't steal from Javier, and she spoke about Kenny as if he betrayed her. So I found that disappointing. I'm going to give it another whirl and really pay attention whenever I'm bored enough. Heck, I might even play season 1 & 2 all over again and see how much is really affected unless someone has already done that.

  • That occured on its own boy
