Realism took a major nosedise with season 3
Ok, time for me to nitpick.
Tripp's on watch at Prescott and what does he see? A little girl and a guy storming to the front gates. What does Tripp think? "Gee, those people might need help! Imma go attract more of the herd by cover firing and waste ammo on a total stranger and a little girl that I barely know! You're a genius, Tripp!" Tripp, you dumbass, this guy might've been a scout from a different settlement trying to find out how many of you are there and what your firepower is. If you're gonna save him, at least interrogate him and stuff.
Javi and Clementine kill a guy in suspicious conditions. For a supposedly trading outpost, Tripp really likes to take care of the traders doing their business there. It's not as if traders would get word that Tripp's a dumbfuck that lets random strangers kill them.
So, Javi fucks everything up there. Tripp, for some strange reason, doesn't just push Javi's ass over the wall and calls it a deal. Why risk your neck for a total stranger? But, oh man, this is my Tripp. He's gonna save the whole world in this zombie apocalypse starting with this total stranger.
And now's the really cringy part: a small group of them escape AND TRIPP STILL DOESN'T TORTURE, THAN SHOOT JAVI'S ASS IN A BLIND RAGE. This guy is responsible for all of the bullshit happening. His coming there killed at least DOZENS of PEOPLE. He saw friends get eaten up by walkers because of this TOTAL STRANGER. A settlement destroyed because of this dumbass. In season 1, not telling Kenny that it was Ben's dumbass that led to them leaving the motel was a big thing, and with good reason. Anyone would be enraged about the naive member getting your spouse and kid killed. But how does Tripp react to this? "It's not your fault, Javi! I forgive you."
The only one reacting like an actual human being from that settlement is Conrad. He just saw his love killed in front of his eyes because of a total stranger. And we get to kill him in episode 2. Good job, Telltale.
I didn't like season 2 that much, but compared to these 2 episodes of season 3, it was GOTY material. Replay season 1 and observe how people act in a zombie apocalypse. I want stuff like this, Telltale: You know, actual moral dilemmas and human beings becoming more and more callous in order to survive.
Comments
I'm fairly certain it started with Season 2 when we saw an 11 year old girl protect a grown man against several zombies and when we see her take down zombies time and time again. Honestly the shed kill was the only realistic kill by Clem.
ok
Well Tripp actually knew Clementine before this, and Tripp is a kind person, it's not like people haven't helped others prior especially in a time of need in this series. I do agree though, this game has so many dumb plot finishes.
Something else to consider: Clementine is just standing in a line at the Prescott standoff, Max and the other the New Frontier men say nothing about her though, but if you sell Clementine out (this option is stupid given the context of the entire ordeal in both directions), Max notices Clementine instantly. Looks like they wanted to wait for Clementine to tell you instead of the New Frontier spoiling it too early. There's honestly too much plot holes and bad writing within the first two episodes that I'm left to hope they shape up before releasing the next episodes, they have a lot of time, so they should use well.
You really seem to be exaggerating...
Obviously, but I'm talking about human behaviour. This is the goddamn apocalypse and people like Tripp act very friendly.
My point is that you can't be THIS kind and survive for years in a zombie apocalypse. Tripp would've been the first guy to get stabbed and have his weapons and supplies stolen when trying to help a complete stranger. It's how evolution works; the naive get shanked while psychopaths learn to adapt and live another day.
Episode 1 I bought all her kills.
Episode 2 was mostly okay apart from the bridge scene
Episode 3 and 4 it went off the rails completely, the scenes with jane the realism started to come back
Episode 5 , clem again is capable but not superpowered
I guess, Walter survived for a long time being kind until the group Clementine met showed up. Some people refuse to sacrifice morals no matter what the cost might be, also considering there was already a huge ass herd coming, shooting wouldn't have made much of a difference, even when Clem/Javier would've shot regardless. So yeah, Tripp didn't really have a reason to not start helping a 13 year girl he knows and a man in need, you'd want the same help if it were you. I just have an issue how Tripp doesn't even break a sweat after you indirectly killed Prescott, and then Conrad is okay with you after three sentences, now he has completely lost his child(ren), wife, and now his girlfriend.
I think people calling Tripp the new Kenny comes from three things: firstly, yes, the beard. Secondly, they both have funny lines. Thirdly, they both tag along with the player and end up being a right-hand man of sorts (even if Tripp being so nice with Javi is a bit out there)
Honestly, Tripp just seems like he doesn't hold that against Javier specifically. Javier might have caused them to show up, but they're the ones that decided to go psycho, threaten (and kill) a hostage, ram the gate, and kill everyone inside. All because of one dude they had beef with. You could blame Javi for causing them show up, sure, but you can't really blame Javi for the NF deciding to genocide everyone in Prescott, when all they were after was one guy.
Tripp probably saw the NF as a bunch of psychos with next to no reason for doing the things they do. The New Frontier (or really just Badger) are the ones that caused the situation to turn ugly. Tripp mentions that he somewhat knows who they are ("These are the freaks that brand themselves"), so I imagine he probably has an idea of what they do and what they're capable of. In his mind, it probably would have been a matter of time until they found an excuse to attack Prescott anyways. Not to mention, Tripp himself wanted to open fire, so why blame Javi for doing what he was already planning to do?
I dunno, the logic behind not blaming Javier seems relatively sound to me. It's not the same as someone leading a herd of zombies right to your front door or something. The NF are the ones that decided to do what they did. Javier didn't force them to ram the gate and kill everyone inside for no good reason. It was them and only them that decided to take it that far.
And if we're being honest, in the scene where Javier surrendered, isn't it Clementine's fault more than anyone else? Think about it: if she didn't shoot, they probably would have just executed Javier, Badger would be happy, they'd let Francine go, and be on their merry way. Clementine shooting prompted a firefight that quickly spiraled out of control.
Very true, I do still believe Javier has some to blame though, and Clementine opening fire is determinant. Even if you chose that option, I do believe Clem was in the right to start firing to save Javier, as she saw him more as a friend/person who helped her out, "I got your back" type of thing, plus if not Clem, Tripp would've shot. Everyone wanted to shoot them but Conrad on the stand. Anyways, no matter how much you speculate, no matter how irrational the New Frontier was, at the end of the day, if Javier never came to Prescott, they most likely wouldn't have been killed just like that, as Prescott has been fine prior.
Yeah, I don't think Tripp can be the new Kenny, we barely know anything about his history nor can we justify a deep sentiment yet. Kenny was something special in regards to Lee and Clementine, many emotional and funny moments with that guy. Tripp made me laugh once so far, it's when he said: "Fair enough? I should be earning a god damn boy scout badge for this". He's quite the bro though, but again, I don't see a real correlation to Kenny.
If that is what he or she thinks then let them say it. Maybe it is an exaggeration but to him/her it's not.
Yeah, I know. I'm not telling them not to think this. I will admit that my comment came across more passive aggressive than I intended though.
I agree with most things except the first one. Tripp knew Clementine before you did so he let her and you in.
Honestly, I don't really like the 'new X' concept anyways. Let these characters be their own separate thing.
I'd rather Gabe continue to be Gabe, not the 'new Ben.'
I'd rather Nick just be considered Nick, not Ben 2.0 like so many people are keen on calling him.
Gabe..............right, I honestly hate that kid, at least Ben was easier to feel for emotionally, Gabe I would rather him die.
Gotta make Jane look good somehow, amirite?
Same. Honestly, I was so happy that Mariana wasn't just Sarah 2.0(even before she died) and when I started to notice the vague similarities between Tripp and Kenny, I honestly got a bit annoyed. Jane mostly avoided that, come to think about it. If you're going to reuse a character concept, fine--just make sure the character is different enough that they can stand up on their own.
Honestly, I think he just has a soft spot for Clementine. It would explain his behavior in the first two instances. The third was no one's fault except the New Frontier. They were being completely unreasonable. If Clem and Javi didn't cross them, it was probably only a matter of time before they messed with Prescott in some way. The fact that they used a hostage that had nothing to do with the gas that they shot a person in the head over kind of shows that. I'm not saying being angry in any of these situations wouldn't be justified, but I can see why a person wouldn't choose to leave these two particular people to die or blame these two particular people for everything.
I did find it odd after thinking about it that Tripp didn't kill or severely punish Clem and Javier after killing a trader/citizen of Prescott. Two basically strangers just off a dude in your town and you just tell em to leave? That's bad business right there, but I guess Tripp wasn't a fan of that trader, so it's okay? Who runs this place? Can't imagine a ZA community run like that.
Also I find it hilarious that Tripp didn't really give a shit that Prescott fell. Like barely a reaction. The only thing I can think of is he didn't give a fuck about Prescott and it's citizens. Just Eleanor. Or the writers (probably this) just didn't want another character to be all emotional when we already had Conrad (this goes for Eleanor too). That and the player wouldn't give a damn since we hardly spent any time there and everything should focus on Javier's family.
Also, if you tell him the truth about Eli, he takes Clementine aside to get a firm talkin too and comes back after Elinor treats you while holding her by the arm and saying that they're lucky he's letting them stay the night. It's honestly kinda hilarious.
Oh shut your mouth you mundane noodle.
I dont think so, most of the time when she killed walkers that I remember, the axe got stuck, or a hammer got stuck, because she didnt have the strength to pull it free, we have seen Lee kill tons of walkers with a fireaxe, and pull it out effortlessly, but because Clem is so young she got in trouble on multiple occassions because of that axe, I never thought it was anything all too crazy
I didn't understand that. I just nod and smile, ok?
One of the big things that fuck with the realism in this instance is also the fact that the game keeps jumping from action sequence to action sequence, which not only devalues the action sequences, but also completely glosses over character development.
In season 1 and 2, there was not nearly as much action as in A New Frontier, which is very fitting with the world, considering the walkers move slow and there isnt a whole lot of humans left probably. This lead to alot of downtime, where we got to actually play the game, solve puzzles and learn about the characters, their motivations, and their relationships. And when shit finally hit the fan, it was intense, be it walkers or bandits, when stuff went down, it was a great experience, stressful, especially when the game then throws a major choice in your face, like save someone or do something. In A New Frontier, we are jumping from glorified cutscene to glorified cutscene, with Michael Bay action out the Wazoo, in episode 1 and 2 alone, we have seen 1 character die, and 1 determinant death, we have been in 2 firefights, 2 or 3 walker hordes, but only like 3 hub areas, all of which had almost nothing to do.
In season 1 when you heard the walkers, it meant threat, it meant shit was about to go down, but now, there was basically walkers in almost every sequence. We never get those moments where we are just walking, talking, learning about who everyone is or why they do what they do.
I knew more about almost any of the characters in the group after episode 1 in season 1 than I do even the protagonist in A New Frontier, which I think is a damn shame, because one of the things that The Walking Dead does best is characterisation, and when the action comes, it is well done and intense, not like it is in A New Frontier.
Fav mod
Because the zombies are used as move-on-with-the-episode prompt.
Since there's no main nor sub plots now that's the only thing they got left, already overly-abused QTE sequences.
Man... I wish that the cast doesn't panic over 6 zombies (Like that stupid Clem flashback) and instead plan out how to avoid them without wasting their precious bullets!
That's what's missing from last season as well, consequences, always being in the wrong in someone's eyes when you make a certain choice, now it's like yeepie-ye-kaie mothafucka.
Almost all of your posts here are about how much you dislike Jane even when it's hardly relevant.
Are you okay?
Season 2 had that problem, too. Hell they deleted scenes like Alvin and Clem just peacefully fishing in episode 1. WHY? Like the episode was already pretty short.
I sincerely doubt that love, seeing as I actually like a number of characters and tended to go on long tangents about lesser talked about characters. Unless you mean recently, in which case it's usually relevant to the topic being discussed. So yes, I think I'm okay.
Hey, I'd rather pass out daily rations or chat with my peers at the moment than drink Earthquake or rob cripples. Still, its kinda funny to think that Jane more or less kept Clementine's sudden power boost in check at times--by stealing it for herself!
Yeah, he's pretty chill guy. Actually, I believe he got a prrrromotion some time after I joined.
Yeah, I would've loved more screentime for the big guy. Still, at least the ending of the episode was good enough. Actually, I believe Luke was originally supposed to be there as well, with 4 choices at the end instead of 2.
It definitely did, but in season 2 we at least still got a few moments of quiet, like after they let you out of the shed and into the cabin, and when youre at the ski lodge, but yeah, season 2 also almost had no hubs and that stuff either, but it wasnt nearly as actionfilled as A New Frontier
When you make a thread talking about realism in a game depicting the zombie apocalypse...you show the world that irony is alive and well.
I did find it odd how carefree and forgiving Tripp is of everything and how he basically appointed Javier the leader after knowing him under a day and causing quite the unintentional mess. And how quick he got over Conrad's determinant death.
When it comes to Conrad, Tripp's entire community just got steamrolled over
What's one more death?
Because they were supposedly real good friends with an long history. But to be fair it seems like Tripp really doesn't mind anything that happens unless it involves Eleanor it seems.
