TellTale in a nutshell(TWD Specifically)

Telltale, it's a mixed company which releases top notch masterpieces like TWD or TFTB but also release crappy titles such as Batman and Jurassic Park. Here are 3 expertly crafted scenarios which sum up telltale games

Scenario 1: Conversation

You are talking to a girl you have a crush on during a Zombie Apocalypse. When you scavenge in the super linear hubs and she wants to ask what you think about here, you have 4 options that will tailor your story choices:
1.Tell her that you lover her
2.Tell her that you hate her
3.Tell her that you like her
4. ...

Here is how each choice is played out:
1.
You: I love you
Girl: I'd never think you'd say that
2.
You: I hate you
Girl: I'd never think you'd say that
3.
You: I only like you, you are ugly
Girl: sobs
4.
You: ...
Girl: I'd never think you'd say that

As you can see, each choice is very moral and formative that will change how the story plays out. Now lets move on to Scenario 2:

Scenario 2:
You are alone in an abandoned town as the girl leaves you(determinant). You look around in an even more linear hub until you are ambushed by bandits who have a strong fear of brown hash. They demand supplies and you can only give 1 thing out of the 3 things you own:
1.Giveaway bucket of food
2.Giveaway Magnum Pistol
3. Giveaway Playboy Magazine

Here's how each choice is played out:
1.
You: Here, have my bucket of food
Bandit: We do not want your unimportant food, we want your magazine!
You: gives magazine
2.
You: Here, have my Magnum Pistol
Bandit: We do not want your useless pistol, we want your magazine!
You: gives magazine
3.
You: Here, have my Playboy magazine
Bandit: We do not want your worthless magazine, we want your magazine!
You: gives magazine

These options in Scenario 2 really help set the stressful mood of managing your items and doing what is best for yourself and your group.

Scenario 3:
2 of your group members are stuck under a dead elephant and a zombie herd is approaching. You can only save one!
1.Save Dave
2.Save Dave 2

Here is how your choices are played out:
1.
You: saves Dave
Dave: Thanks! If it weren't for yo-
Dave 2: dies by zombies
Dave: Ouch
You: At least you ar-
Dave: dies
You: nooo
2.
You: saves Dave 2
Dave 2: Thanks! If it weren't for yo-
Dave: dies by zombies
Dave 2: Ouch
You: At least you ar-
Dave 2: dies
You: nooo

The choices in Scenario 3 are some of the most game changing choices. Those can affect your personality, personality of others and story changes.

I hope you enjoyed this TellTale in a nutshell. Telltale is a great games studio and i am personally excited for Episode 3 of ANF. #HYPE #TotallyNotSponsored

  • This is fucking hilarious.

  • Please do not disrespect these scenarios. They were expertly crafted to highlight how TellTale games work, not for amusement ;)

  • Every decision you make could be your last

  • The story is tailored to how you play

  • This game stays the same regardless of what decisions you make. The story is tailored by how many good reviews we get.

  • So true!

    So sad!

But this reminds me of many roleplay games these days...

Well, that one is techincally true.

  • You simply can't wish anything in TWDG. Even if you wanna stay dead you gotta replay it. Dang.

  • So are all of them, technically, depending on how much you fudge definitions.

Well, that one is techincally true.

  • B...but...the game is not about decision. It's what happens in your head and heart.

Well, that one is techincally true.

  • Whats worse is, i see youtubers saying "omg i shot conrad, thats gonna bite my ass later in the game". Obviously these haven't played recent telltale games. The only difference between having conrad or not is 2-3 lines that he will get in next episode.

  • Telltale uses a very shoddy definition in the sense that they don't state how little change occurs based on our choices, but they aren't lying outright. Obviously this is not a good solution and I don't think anyone is happy about it.

  • It is a tailored experience as long as anything changes depending on our choices (which is the case, even if minimal), but you could argue that it isn't a tailored story because there isn't enough change.

  • Not even relating to my point. I said that the disclaimer at the beginning of the episode is not untrue, because both the game adapts (however minimal) and the story is tailored by how we play (however minimal). Something that isn't true is a statement like "every decision could be your last". The disclaimer is pretty dumb, but it isn't wrong.

For example, the ending of Episode 1.1 and the beginning of Episode 1.2 are different. Of course they lead to the same outcome, but the game adapted to the choice at the end and the story was tailored differently to somebody else's.

And obviously Job's statement is PR bullshit, but that had nothing to do with my comment.

  • Yeah, the problem is that Telltale is getting away with it. Look at all the positive reviews. And it's even worse knowing Telltale can do much better (Game of Thrones, Batman).

  • I was mainly trying to get my point across, so sorry if it came off as passive-aggressive.
