Okay, so look at it this way.
What if Ellie was straight in TLOU.
Then, telltale revealed that Clem is straight.
Does that mean they're suddenly similar? No one would bat an eye. Really, sexuality shouldn't be a big deal.
I hate to burst your bubble dude but she is 100% black. Like that's just a fact. It doesn't matter what you think she is, fact is fact and why is it sick to say that she's just black?
I liked that one chick from Tumblr that made a user here, and for some sick persistent reason, wanted Clem to be 100% black, because screw her Asian part.
Because in the fucking apocalypse you would tend to latch on to someone you trusted to have your back while you had theirs...and that type of trust is akin to love...so it could be a guy...could be a gal...I just do not think it would matter anymore...survival is the key driving force in life.
Maybe I am just weird...it has been suggested so, but that level of intimacy that makes you so comfortable that you are willing to die for each other...May just trump the usual hetero/gay stereo types.
I think the "trend" you are seeing is not because there are many gay women in media, but because there are not many gay men.
Whenever some sort of media wants to have a gay character but not make said character into a joke, they are almost always female. There is so little positive gay male representation that it actually makes it look like there is too much gay female representation (there is not, there are still many more straight females). If there were more non-straight males in media that were presented in a positive way, I think maybe you wouldn't feel that there are too many gay women (like the couple in the Michonne's mini-series, who were presented as a couple who happened to be of the same sex, which is how it is in the real life - two people who love each other but happen to be of the same sex). Just a thought, though, because I've noticed that lately: People respond way more positively to a gay couple if they are a female couple than if they are male, which is a real shame.
Now... "Forced orientation". I don't know if we can say that when talking about a fictional character that, so far, didn't show any signs either way. We don't know Clementine's orientation, so we don't know if she is gay, but we also don't know if she is straight. And it is no big deal if she isn't straight, it is just a characteristic she has, like having green eyes or curly hair. We tend to "default" to "straight", but a character doesn't need a reason to be gay more than they need a reason to be straight.
Recently, in the Overwatch forum, after it was revealed that the poster girl of the game has a girlfriend, people were demanding it to be elaborated upon. They wanted to know why she has a girlfriend. But it is just like a straight relationship (on the same event, another character, male, was revealed to be married to a woman, but nobody was demanding to know why). They met and liked each other, and now are dating. There is no need to be anything different, really.
I might have trailed off a bit and in the end I don't know if what I wrote has a lot to do with what you wrote anymore, hehe. Sorry.
Because it's trend to appease to the LGBT community and make their females strong and independent (and presumably gay). The bonus would be h… moreatred for men.
As @Menofthe214 mentioned, many female protagonists are either gay or bisexual. Of course, many aren't. But it's made clear quite early if a woman is straight, on the other hand, it's almost all of the time left to speculation when a woman is tough/strong/whatever, what her sexual preference is, and then turns out to have some exotic sexual preference. It always carries the taste of appeasing some sort of fan base.
I don't have a problem with people being gay. I have a problem with forced orientation. Why would it be so cool for Clementine to be asexual (not saying you said you'd want that)? Next time people hope for her to be a shemale or something similar.
There was never any indication of Clementine's preference. If she turns out to be gay all of the sudden, I smell fanbase. As I said, it seems to be trend.
I mean, it's not exactly unatural for 11 year olds to have crushes. I for example started noticing girls around that age, and many other people are the same, so it's entirely possible that she started having those feelings at that age. It all depends on the person tbh.
But you're right, this is all speculation, and until TT confirms something there is no exact answer. It's up to the player's interpretation (maybe that's what TT is going for, Idk).
If that had happened while she was 14, I'd agree. But she was 11, and I doubt she had any romantic or sexual interest for that matter. That is too speculative.
It's certainly an annoying stereotype. Whenever female characters have characteristics that are considered to be "masculine", this kind of stuff surfaces. And more often than not, if it is ever confirmed either way, there is no way for the writers to win - one side will scream "erasure" or the other side will scream "fan pandering" and there will be flame wars.
Happens every day in the Overwatch fandom (the last post on the OP has the name and the pic of an Overwatch character, which is why I'm mentioning it).
I honestly think she could be anything: straight, gay, bi, ace or whatever... I don't think it really matters. I'm just sick of people who a… morebsolutely want her to be gay because she's a strong woman. So what? What has your fierceness to do with your orientation? By the way that's Tumblr, they always tend to talk shit.

It would be more interesting if she is asexual instead. Not only would it make her standout even more from other video game characters it would prevent her from being the victim of getting stuck in cheesy romantic subplots
Comments
I would rather Clementine be asexual to be honest.
Well if she's gay then I don't have to worry about that Shitbird Gabe.
If they still had similar love interests and romance plots then yes, they'd still be similar
She hasn't had any sexuality so far and this thread makes me hope it stays that way.

if she is gay I just want Gabe to help her realize it because that would be hilarious.
Cool.
Every time I see your name, I think of this commercial.

No girls until she's 55!
This thread needs to be closed for my forsaken reason.

She is Blasian, confirmed by Telltale staff.
Don't worry, I appreciate your elaboration and you've got a point.
Thanks for sharing your views.
She has no sexual orientation as far as we know.
This is funny, considering that you are of mixed race yourself.
Being asexual doesn't mean being aromantic, though.
This doesn't seem like good discussion material. (Nothing wrong with characters being LGBT, but you get the idea).
