Javier & David: The best part of this season for me.

David: "I love you little brother. You know that right?"

Javier: "I know."

The more I think about Javier and David's relationship the more convinced I am that it's going to be one of my favorite parts of the season. I really like both characters and their relationship is really interesting. David seems like he hates Javier, but he's only so angry at him, because he's never around. He probably feels like Javi doesn't care about his family. Anyway I really enjoy their relationship, which sucks because I have a really bad feeling that Javier and David's relationship is going to end tragically. I don't know if this is the direction it's going, but I feel like David will end up being the antagonist, meaning he and Javi will be enemies and I don't see it ending well.

What about you? How do you feel about Javi and David's relationship? And do you have the same worries that I do?

  • I share the sentiment. :)

And yes, I think David will die sadly. :(

  • It's standard, really nothing more. Not terrible, not wonderful.

  • I think David will die sadly.

Please, no. We must have hope!

  • I love their dynamic too. David has many good points but succumbs to his rage easily. I wonder if we can try to pull him back. It reminds me a lot of Rick and Shane.

  • I was actually thinking that Rick and Shane would be a really good comparison.

It really is a lot like Rick and Shane. Also seeing as they're family, that will add even more to it.

  • I'm 100% fine with that's Kate thing, I'll roll with it. However if this is another Rhys and Sasha but this time forced for story , that would be disrespectful to people who don't want it. Again.

or we are forced to be in a relationship with Kate. No one can resist the unrelenting power known as Love.

  • Yeah that was an awkward time...It was like:

Rhys (Me): "Why are we having this romantic jungle scene? I don't look at Sasha that way."
    Telltale: "You must."
Rhys (Me): "But I don't want to!"
Telltale: "YOU MUST! NOW HURRY AND BOW TO THE POWER OF LOVE!!"

  • My Javi said "Fuck off" instead but I too hope that their relationship will be one of the main issues in this season. Also Gabe should play a big role in this, like Kate said: He's either going to be more like Javi or more like David.

  • I think the two being aggressive towards each other still makes an interesting dynamic between the two.

And I agree with what you said about Gabe. It'll be interesting to see what path he goes down.

  • Maybe Javi doesn't stick around more often because David's a prick.

  • David hasn't shown any redeemable qualities so I see no reason to invest in his character just yet.

  • I'll give them a chance, I'll see how much character they give to David and his relationship with Javier, if it's complex and believable, then I might just start to fully appreciate ANF.

  • David is probably the only interesting character in this game so far. I'll know for sure in episode 3

  • Yeah, I'm really hoping their using this time to not do another In Harm's Way situation, especially since the plot has been relatively bare bones so far. So, more David, more Eleanor, more Conrad, and more development!

  • I think that there will be a moment of David's that he will do something "bad" to you (I don't know why) and then you'll have to decide if you want to kill him, punish him (by beating him or something) or just let him be and you're gonna be in the shoes of Clementine or Javier. Just my guess. :/

  • I too do rather like their relationship showed on the first two episodes, my problem is how alarmingly dissatisfying, generic and predictable it might become.

Judging from "Above The Law's" episode description ("Shocking developments drive a wedge between brothers in arms"), it seems that we will be forced into a conflict against David and The New Frontier. Let me just start by saying that that SUCKS! The whole forced conflict thing. They did it in Michonne by forcing us to first burn Monroe down and then by having Randall perform a completely suicidal act so Norma could have a reason to attacks us. They did it in Season one by having the Stranger come after you no matter how good you were. And they've done it again in this New Season by having The New Frontier attack us and shoot an unarmed little girl over pudding! I don't doubt for a second that they'll continue to push us onto conflict again, and again, and again. But you know what. I can totally tolerate that. Conflict in a story is interesting and needed. After all, a story without a conflict can get very boring. So I just hope the conflict that they'll most definitely force on us against David can at least be an interesting one which will make the already interesting dynamic between David and Javi more interesting.

But here's my main fear: how they will enforce this supposed conflict in the story. So far I see two terrifyingly terrible possibilities:

    1. They force us to get in a relationship with Kate, and have us fight for it.

I don't think I will be able to play the rest of the episode or the rest of the Season if this actually happens. For what it's worth, there has been a lot of focus the Kate X Javi relationship and even on the Kate - Javi - David... um... ugh... "love triangle". I have refused to pursue anything with Kate at every single opportunity. I do not want to be forced to pursue a romantic relationship with a character I do not feel that attached with just yet. I do not feel like their romance thing has been fleshed out enough for me to enjoy it. I do not feel the chemistry. I just don't.

Problem is, the conflict with David might be generated by this relationship. That much seemed to be hinted on "Ties That Bind - Part Two" first Javi flashback. And while I'd totally support Kate if she doesn't want to jump right back onto David's arms after all these years of being "free" of him, I do not wish to get involved in it at all, which will be very hard if I'm forced onto a relationship with Kate.

So, yes, my worst nightmare is that "Above The Law" will start with a flashback of Javi and Kate involved during the 4-5 years time skip we had on his story.

This is hopefully just me being paranoid.

  • My hope is that they've known about the backlash regarding Nick and Sarah(and Kenny and Jane) long enough to actually try and do something interesting with this setup. Plus, if the former two's treatment is any indication, they'll probably give Conrad and Clementine more screentime just to fuck with the people who chose to shoot him.

  • How do you color your text?

They did it in Season one by having the Stranger come after you no matter how good you were.

At least in that case, he specifies that he was mainly after Kenny and Katjaa for being the ringleaders of that event, but that hearing about all the danger Lee allowed Clementine to be in made it personal. Plus, he makes it somewhat apparent that he isn't all there anymore, so it's understandable that he'd lash out at anything that really offended him.

  • I'll PM you about the text coloring.

About the Stranger: I'm well aware of the fact that the Stranger comes after Kenny and his family at first, but that in itself makes no sense since the only person he seems to be interested in damaging is Lee. In the end, he blamed me for taking Clementine to the farm, saving Carley over Doug and killing Danny and Andy. How is this any justification for what he did? Why was he pursuing me and not Kenny who stole from him, asked for Ben to die, advocated to leave Lilly on the side of the road and many other things he can blame you for if you do them. It's completely beyond me why he only chooses to harm Lee and Clem while he completely ignores Kenny's existence.

  • Seeing as Clem is not the main focus of the game right now, then I would have to say protagonist. Because I see David losing control of TNF or even being booted from the group all together.

  • Stole the words right out of my mouth.

I really, really hope that the story goes into a different direction in regards to Kate, Gabe and David otherwise it will be incredibly unsatisfying.

Imagine if David doesn't put blame on Javi for Kate and Mariana and actually treats him like a brother. Imagine if he's chill about the relationship between you and Kate. Imagine if he isn't even an antagonist in relation to The New Frontier and how this might affect our perception of Clementine and her conflict with The New Frontier.

It would be so much more interesting if Javi and David aren't pitted against each other and we get a truly grey-moral story that would befit TWD. Making a conflict between the two brothers seems like the cheap way out.

  • It would be much better if they never tired to force the romance between Javier and Kate in the first place. It's just tasteless and crass. But I would like them to write David as giving them the benefit of the doubt, you know, because he does know his brother. And he knows that Javier would never try anything with his wife.

  • That's... an interesting point. My best guess is that he either took pity on him and considered letting it lie(very unlikely) or assumed he was gonna show up with Lee so he could get both at once(as he has no way of knowing what happened after he took Clementine). Or he took a third option and feel into that moral about how despair and vengeance can drive someone to go after an innocent party for any petty reason because he doesn't care who he reeks retribution upon as long as someone pays for it.

I'll PM you about the text coloring. About the Stranger: I'm well aware of the fact that the Stranger comes after Kenny and his family at

  • I did tell him that she was leaving him, but not for Javier, because I had him shoot her down when she asked him to take her with him. But the dialogue says that she's going to leave him. And then after she talks so badly about David - which by the way I think Javier should have put a stop to - she acts all high and mighty like she really takes her vows seriously.

So "opening his eyes" if you picked the option after turning Kate down, and removing your hand from hers, should still give Javier favor in his older brother's eye.
