Resident Evil easter eggs or just a coincidence?
Please don't hate me for this I just thought this was rather interesting.
'Clement' is a green liquid chemical that appears in Resident Evil CODE: Veronica and kinda resembles Clementine's name.
There is a character called Sarah Carver in Resident Evil Outbreak, both a Sarah and a Carver make an appearance in TWD.
Leon Kennedy is a recurring character in the series and may be one of the most iconic...
Leon loosely resembles the name Lee.
Kennedy loosely resembles the name Kenny.
Javier is a character in the Resident Evil series, we currently play as somebody named Javier in ANF.
A.J Briscoe is a mentioned character in the Resident Evil series, again another character name from TWD (A.J).
Rebecca is a character featured in the first Resident Evil game who shares the same name with 2 other characters in TTG The Walking Dead, the same can be said for Sam, Nick, Luke...basically the entirety of the cabin group.
Bonnie is a main character in one of the Resident Evil movies, there is ofcourse a Bonnie in TWD.
A character named Mike appears In Resident Evil 4...there is a Mike in TWD.
A character named Jane appears.......
The list goes on and on....
I was basically just typing in character names from the walking dead and typing Resident Evil afterwards, turns out nearly every character name appearing in the cabin group also appears in the Resident Evil series which is also about zombies (whether that's relevant or not).
Now I know a large amount of these names are pretty generic like Nick and Mike but still, do you think that the charcter names were based off of existing character names from the Resident Evil series? Resident Evil really was like the first and most iconic game to feature zombies and the characters in a worlds filled with the undead, I'm sure the writers looked for inspiration in the series at some point.
Conspiracy?
Comments
There's a Carlos as well, I can't be bothered searching anymore.
I think it could just be a coincidence. Although if I ever play RE Outbreak, I probably will think of TWD now when I run into Sarah Carver.
Oddly enough, I noticed a couple Life is Strange names in ANF. I picked up David, Kate and Max. Again, it's probably just a coincidence, though.
Yeah most likely a coincidence but we'll never know for sure.
Also, Episode 1 and 2 name is Ties That Bind which is one of Resident Evil 4 trophies/achievements.
Would you believe me if I'm currently playing RE4, spotted that last night but was too lazy to post it on this thread?
There's a charcter called Kenny Sullivan. I'm done with research now, I'm seriously going full conspiracy mode.
He also wears a green jacket with white undershirt, sound firmiliar?
A few of these are flimsy, but I did spot the name similarities. I've been playing Darkside Chonricles recently and I haven't seen cutscenes on that for a while, so when the villain's name 'Javier' came up I burst out laughing. Probably a lot of those are coincidence though, names like Rebecca or Mike are common names.
But, now that I think of it, Tripp's kinda a Barry Burton.
Eleanor's sort of like Yoko:
And Lee was all like:
Jane and Luke went all:
And how Clemmy holds Javi up at gunpoint and her identity is hidden at first, reminds me of this:
And the way the reveal of Javi's papa being a walker, reminded me lots of the first zombie reveal in RE1 and how creepy that was set up. Both zombies are even bald! BALD!:
Okay I'm hooked on these RE conspiracy theories now. Even if it is just coincidence this is fun XD
Very likely. It's one of the few video game series out there that features zombies and isn't entirely crappy. There's other ones like Dead Rising, and Left 4 Dead but those are very action 'kill everything' in the way they go, but there are some good ideas in them for sure [like Chuck's prequel DLC with his daughter]. I think I did hear somewhere maybe from those playthrough that they did that they did get inspiration from other series. They definitely got ideas from The Last of Us.
This isn't an uncommon thing though, for example Capcom obviously got ideas from The Thing, Alien and even Chainsaw Massacre for monster designs. They even took the concept of P.T some into working on RE7 I'd be guessing, but even admitted to elements from The Last of Us giving them inspiration for Resident Evil Revelations 2.
Perhaps there was some TT employee who's been playing RE instead of doing their homework and was like: "Huh, this is a nice name, mind if I borrow it... Oh, this sounds cool. My boss gonna give my a raise if he sees it".
As a long time fan of Resident Evil a lot of these comparisons are sort of loose
I think the overall music when things are ok reminds me a lot of the safe room music from the RE series early on. Nice thread!
Thank you.
Yeah, like I said it's doubtful that any of these are intentional. It was just a bit of fun.
You could be right, where else would game makers get inspiration for charcter names.
I wish I could ask the person or people who came up with the names if they got them from the RE series.
I freaking love Resident Evil!!! Thank you for this thread.
Coincident
Yeah most likely but still possible.
Remember the TV show of TWD, how the first episode had that rookie cop named Leon? Don't tell me they weren't making a nod to Resident Evil on that XD too damn cool.
I want a crossover!
Nice memory, I'm convinced this has to be more than a coincidence.
I noticed that and laughed the first time I saw it! Raccoon City was in Georgia the whole time!
What if Raccoon city was just a code name for Georgia...
Clementine Birkin, it all makes so much sense now.
