Characters saying, 'I love you.'
Family isn't always blood, most of the characters in this game show this in nearly every scene.
Kenny, Luke, Lee, Clementine etc. all have no problem in concluding that they are not just like family but are a family to Clementine and sometimes to one another. Clementine and Kenny even go as far as to say to each other that they are a family including A.J.
So I don't want to get all lovey dovey as actions obviously speak louder than words, that much is true and Lee, Kenny and Clem all risk their lives for each other and clearly love eachother (maybe not Lee and Kenny depending on character dialogue options and the fact that they're both grown men) There is no other reason for why Kenny did the things he did for Clem in season 2, why Lee did the things he did for her in season 1 and why Clem continues to do the things she does for A.J.
But why? Why, even when Javier is burying Mariana is there not an option to say that he loves/loved her. The best he can muster is, "You were like a daughter to me."? Which don't get me wrong is still impactful and shows how much he cared about her but still...it wasn't enough closure in my opinion.
Sure, you can argue that Lee didn't know Clem long enough to actually love her, but that's clearly BS. He literally died for her, there's no way in hell you'd do that for someone unless you really loved them.
You can argue that Lee telling Clem he loved her when he was dying would be too hard for her to handle, but c'mon how much more upset could she possibly get?
When Kenny leaves Clem and A.J at Wellington, he knows he'll most likely never see them again so why not tell them you love them or vice versa? When Kenny is paralysed from the waist down why can Clem not have the option to tell him she loves him? It's all to formal.
Ofcourse, not everybody needs to be constantly reminded of how much somebody loves them to feel loved, and yeah, scenes can be far more impactful without those 3 magic words but I just want some closure, why does nobody seem to ever say it in this game? Is it really just my family that tell eachother everyday that we love eachother? Would it really ruin the game and everything the game represents if once in a while a charcter said, 'I love you' to someone they love?

Well, love is special.
The only moment in the whole series in which "I love you" would be acceptable, fitting and expected, is the final scene of Lee saying his last words to Clementine.
I think you kind of answered your own question, in your post ^ _ ^
I get the feeling that love sort of goes unsaid in the apocalypse. Besides, y'know, couples. But family love isn't something you necessarily have to say, at least in my opinion. It's something that just goes unsaid. For instance, I love my brothers (I have a younger one and two older half brothers) to death, but I'd never say that, even if I was dying. Namely 'cause, knowing the youngest, he'd film it and put it on YouTube for the masses to have a good giggle at. But, hey, that might just be how my family "does things", everyone expresses love differently.
But the actions of the characters who look out for Clem, and Clem's actions to look out for AJ, are kind of enough for me to know how they feel towards each other. I feel them saying it would almost cheapen it, in a sense. I know how loyal Kenny was to Clementine from what he does, I know how much Luke cared from the interest he takes in Clementine's well-being, I know how devoted Lee was to keeping her safe because of the sacrifices he made to keep her safe.
The best example I can think of right now is during the Leave Me ending of Season One, where you get this lovely little moment between Lee and Clem before he dies. It's not dramatic, but it really hit me in the gut because it showed how much Clementine was gonna miss Lee. (At least, that's how I read this.)
While it would've been really sad if Lee said "I love you", to Clementine, I also feel that it's shown so much better through their actions towards each other. It'd kind of feel like the easy way out, in my mind. I suppose it could also be argued that it'd be a bit much to pile on Clementine's shoulders, after she's just seen her parents as walkers, to then tell her as Lee's dying that he'd love her could be seen as a bit too much for the poor thing to handle :c
I dunno if any of that was actually helpful, heh. But those are just my basic thoughts on the matter.
Damn, why'd you have to do this to me before I go to sleep? Seriously near brought a tear to my eye due to how tired and emotional I am. I guess there are two main kinds of people, ones that say they love someone too much or too little or the rare third case of just enough for some people.
Maybe I won't constantly say it to my family, it's losing it's meaning, for me atleast, it has as much impact as something you say like 'see you later' or 'have a nice day' and doesn't really show how much I truly love them.
What you said was truly helpful and I'm very grateful.

Well, in fairness it's not like Lee got the bite on purpose.
Even then I debate the capacity for love to exist in just 3/4 months, even in extreme circumstances.
I was referring to what he did to get her back, I.e fighting through a herd of walkers, risking his life more times than one when if he really didn't want to go looking for Clem he never would have gotten bit, but he did for her sake.
It's funny how you mentioned Luke in a list with Lee, Clementine and Kenny. Any bonding chemistry Clementine or Luke had in the first two episodes was completely lost in Episode 3.
Lee willingly put himself in danger, was ready to get devoured and die in extreme pain only to be sure of Clementine's safety. He sure loved her. Kids attach quickly and since the very beginning Lee felt obligated to take care of Clem. Their relationship was unique.
I included them as they all have love for Clementine in common, not necessarily for eachother which would be impossible considering Luke never met Lee and Kenny and Luke weren't exactly the best of friends.
I know some people may feel this way but it simply isn't true, as cheesy as it may sound but love at first sight isn't unheard of or unproven in any sense and 3/4 months? It's enough time for some people to decide they want to get married hell, maybe even less.
And as for children, like fallandir said children do indeed attach quickly and form loving relationships fatster that adults do for need of guidance, nurture and protection and us as the elders are programmed to feel the same way towards our youth.
What makes you say that?
Because there's not much evidence that he "loved" her. He expressed care about her as she's a child that's turned cold and distant due to seeing the world around her.
Just wanted to pop in and say this mainly because I thought of it while reading this discussion....
In the opening scene of ANF after Javier and David "fight" David tells Javier that he loves him
Love isn't about words. Nowadays people say 'I love You' to a cup of coffee, a TV show, some favorite shoe and unknown people.
Ah yes, i thought I must've heard it once. Really rare occurrence in this game.
