What happened with the idea of living on boats?
In all 3, comics, series and books.
Was the plan just too good and fighting ppl on land makes more sense ?
Where's my Waterworld ?!
They can craft boats like wtf, they'd have all time in the world for it if they weren't buisy getting killed and fighting each other for no reason.
Or is the water just polluted like sh*t cause walkers walk into it nonstop? Still, the Atlantic or other oceans are so huge, shouldn't they be fine there, fishing all day and not sure how they'd get clean water, but there should be a way, no?

Well, there was Monroe, but it blew up so I guess the idea of living on boats blew up with it.
Can you explain? Idk "Monroe" ;/ (only Spencer Monroe and his family)
Michonne mini series, there's a community called "Monroe" where people live on boats. It doesn't end well.
It's a community in the Michonne mini series.
It's not as good as it seems. I would imagine there are plenty of ways to sink very fast without proper navigation system, maps, radio, etc and general experience. The bottom of any water body must be completely full with drifting zombies, wrecks of everything that went under or got burned down. Being on the boat means you are dependent on engine fuel and without it you rely on the weather (winds, storms) and the strength of your muscles if it comes to rowing. There is also a big problem with the supplies. I believe you can catch a cold or flu at an instant. Fresh water supply is important, especially if you got lost or blown away and the ship is doomed to drift for days without end. Such little space increases the possibility of danger or accidents. What if somebody turned and attacked other people. You could be forced to jump into water while being on the open ocean. Like "Sortie en mer", but with zombies.
No, thank you, I'll stay on the solid ground.
Yea true, I mean, it sounds easy but it wouldn't be.
Did the Monroe thing not work at all?
Or is living on boats completely no option anymore for anyone in the "The Walking Dead" universe?
Maybe there are some ships sailing around, doing just fine?
I think it be harder to hide a boat out in the open then it is to hide a community or safe place on land. You can cover up with trees, old buildings, cars etc. If your just one boat out in the sea or lake or whatever then your just attracting others as people will wanna come to look for supplies etc.
When Kenny died boats are gone mate....boats are toast
While it definitely seems like the ideal solution, the issue is that most people forget is that it may provide relative safety against undead and perhaps somewhat against human threats, you're actually now living on the real threat. With that out of the way, allow me to introduce you to situations that can arise while living on a boat.
Leaks -- Now a lot of people instantly think of the ship sinking possibilities with leaks, however there is a danger often over looked due to much smaller and seemingly insignificant leaks in the structure, and that my friends is mold. Mold can not only weaken, degrade, and damage a ship beyond repair if left to its own devices, several varieties can make you ill, and even kill you.
Rocks and shallows -- Appearances are never more deceiving than when water is obscuring the danger
Supplies and repairs -- Water is life giving, however it's also a cruel mistress that likes to ruin your favorite things. Think of salt water like that one crazy hot ex you really regret meeting in your life. Fresh water is much nicer to you, but prepare for more wear and tear than you'd encounter with someone/something more grounded.
Storms/weather -- Living on water also comes with mother nature's own set of predictable hazards. The ocean or sea, even near coastal areas, can be really rough in a ton of locations. Hurricanes and typhoons are the stuff of nightmares. Hope you're on a lake. Aside from thinking the worst possible storm scenario, lightning can also ruin your day.
Those are just a small handful of issues, and that's with experience on the water. I won't go into how difficult it would be to maintain repairs without readily available supply shops, and attempting to McGyver your craft to be seaworthy in the apocalypse, nor the scarcity of food sources as you cannot supplement with crops/foraged goods without leaving the vessel .
There has to be Military vessels still in action I would think. Maybe a sub. Read World War Z it has plenty of that type of stuff in it.
I mean, Monroe was kinda different.
It was a really neat idea to keep a community far enough from the city and get it surrounded by water - sort of castle moat thing, with a couple of little scout boats to scan the territory and look for resources. If managed responsibly, it would be a great place for an organized group, better than Wellington for sure. It seemed kinda weird the fire got to Monroe so quick, as they should be able to deal with it with water and cooperation... Then again, it's happened mainly because of the plot, so I wouldn't say it was logical.
I'm sure lots of people have tried their luck hopping on a boat, judging from the empty harbour in Savannah and them wrecked ships from Michonne miniseries.
