Why does everyone hate Larry?

Why does everyone hate Larry?

I haven't seen a single person that likes Larry or doesn't even mind him. Everyone hates him.
Now sure, he was a dick to Lee, because of him Lee almost died, but he did that because he thought he was dangerous.

He might be an asshole but really he's just a caring father looking out for his daughter and wanting the best for her.

Before you ask, yes I did help Kenny kill him in the meat locker. In my eyes it was too risky to let him live and I did what I decided was the best for the safety of the group.

  • I don't hate him he's pretty funny

  • Why would you hate him? He had the charm coming out of his ass.

  • Lee risked his life to get Larry heart pills, and Larry returned the favor by punching him in the face and leaving him to be eaten.

As far as the caring father part, he yells and cusses at Lilly and I remember from somewhere that its implied he was abusive to her before.

  • because he thought he was dangerous.

Sure. After opening the pharmacy to get heart pills, Lee deserved to be punched in the face to die, is that it?

  • cmon he was just testing Lee

  • It was in her original audition papers. While it's not necessarily a thing in the game proper, I guess you could say he was verbally abuse and to a small extent emotionally neglectful at points.

  • Oh no, he does have fans here and there; I still consider myself one of 'em despite the more likely competition. Interestingly, part of both is because Larry is an intentionally hard to like character given his temper and attitude. However, it's also what made him special, as he had valid reasons and motivations born from his background for not liking Lee, yet he [somewhere above barely] tolerated his place in the group and, while certainly a Jerkass, clearly wasn't a bad guy. Not sure if I'd call him good, per say, but there definitely a heart under all that tough, wrinkled muscle.

  • If Larry was really paying attention he would know Lee was only dangerous to people who slept with his wife.

  • No matter how hard I tried, he just won't like me! How dare he not like me, the nerve!

  • I don't know what you're talking about. I liked Larry.

  • "We've been through more together than you can imagine. Anyone who tries to get between me and her - ANYONE! - is gonna wind up dead! You hear me?!”

  • Because he's a fucking piece of shit.

Just like VengefulKenny said, you literally had to put your undead brother down to get those nitroglycerin pills for him and he pays you back by trying to kill you when it gets overrun/treats you like shit for the rest of the game.

It wasn't racial at all, he just kept giving Lee shit for being a murderer. "MY pills! " "MY food!"

    Me @ Larry

  • That last part is particularly funny considering he's a military veteran.

  • I objected to him trying to kill me.

  • That's an understandable stance to take. After all, people die when they are killed.

Larry is entertaining as hell, you can't deny that.

The whole trying to kill Lee at the drugstore thing was pretty poorly written. Lee doesn't even bring it up to anyone else. Did Kenny notice it? Mark is aware that Larry punched him in the face, but that's it. Not "tried to kill you"

  • I liked him. Was really interested to see his character develop and thought he'd be one of those characters where if you worked really hard you could earn his friendship. Too bad he died so early.

  • Larry falls into a category that is more or less a person you love to hate. He was just so well done. His size is imposing. He consistently gets into your personal space, and is critical/confrontational. Like him or not, you simply know there isn't anything he would not do to protect his daughter. Larry is a very self-aware character in that he realizes that he's getting weaker, his time is short. In that short time, he will put himself in harm's way at every opportunity for Lily. In Season One, he is the only character that treats Lee as a threat because he knows he's a convicted killer from the moment he lays eyes on him. No other character really gives Lee that connection to the world prior to the outbreak, and in a sense his aggression/attempts to harm or intervene with Lee become the only consequence Lee receives directly from the murder he committed in this new world.

  • People hate Larry because of his impressive chin...it is a known fact that he is what women want...and is what Kenny wishes he could be. That is why Kenny murdered him.

  • he's a military veteran.

This is true, however, that doesn't make him any better of a person.

He was made to be hated. But he was so well done that I'll never forget him. He made his mark in The Walking Dead's history and I have to give him that.

Well, I never hated Larry, personally. As others have pointed out, he was an entertaining character and for the most part, I could see where he was coming from, even if I did think he was a tad bit extreme in his hatred. Not saying I liked him, just that I could understand him and that it prevented me from hating him.

Still, though, it's kinda a dumb question, no offense. The guy did speak in favour of letting a non-bitten child be thrown from safety, pretty much has a hobby of trying to ignore people in need, assaults and leaves Lee to die, treats him like shit throughout the entirety of his run in the game, never once has a scene where he acknowledges or thanks Lee for what he's done for the group, complains and fights continuously, and yet, you can't see why majority of people would hate Larry? It's fairly obvious he ain't going to be appearing on most loved character lists.

  • Not saying I liked him either, but I did understand his actions, so I don't hate him.
About that Duck situation, he wanted to throw him out because he though he was bitten and I read somewhere that if you actually stay silent during the scene were Kenny and Larry are arguing, Kaatja says that she cleaned Duck and that he doesn't have any bites and Larry actually apologizes.

Say wha...? Really? If that's true, that's actually pretty surprising.

It's not exactly a genuine apology, if you ask me

The exchange goes something like this:

Katjaa: Look, he's clean! Not a scratch!
Kenny: See? Not a scratch, what do you think about that...
Larry: It's Larry. And I'm fuckin' sorry.

  • Fuck, he does actually say sorry...

Granted it is a bit on the rude side, but it's still an apology. I'm legit shocked. Larry, of all people, actually said those words...it's weird to imagine.

  • For me, it's kind of a 50/50. After hearing his story, I felt kinda bad for calling him a dick in the first place. His mistrust was well-placed, and he was looking out for his daughter, Lily. We also see a brighter side of him when he was talking with Brenda.

HOWEVER, that still was not reason enough for him to act the way he did.

  • Larry was a great guy though he had charm coming out of his ass.

  • Him talking to Brenda was like the grossest thing whole game. ;/
