The Herd Trick...

Was Lee, Jane and Clementine the only survivors who had common sense whilst in a dangerous position? Lee, Clem and Jane were the only survivors to know how to go through herds without walkers spotting them, they are true survivors. The Garcia family are 4 years into the apocalypse and they act dumb and do not know how to do this? I am hoping Clem tells the group about the trick and uses it is episode 3!?

  • It would be nice but I think people would hate on it and call it lazy.

  • Now that you mention it, what happens if you don't back Jane up in the pin?

  • I mean, I doubt anyone was like "Hold up gonna rub guts on me and Walk into a herd, lets see if it works!"

  • Lee's was dumb luck. He got lucky, real lucky. He didn't do what he was doing to get covered, he just got covered on the way (he probably should have died) and he connected two and two together. Clementine learned from Lee's dumb luck. Jane is kind of wild, so I think it makes sense that she would know.

I don't think people realize that the herd trick isn't something that people would really try unless they were desperate. Most people with common sense would not attempt to do something like that could be an unnecessary mistake, a mistake that could cost them their life. Plus, it's really disgusting. The Garcias have had a van for four years, on the move. Perhaps they thought it is smarter to not put yourself in needless risk and just avoid herds all together.

  • I'm glad they didn't go the FTWD route and have people using it casually and often. It really lessens the shock of the act and it gets old when the walkers aren't a threat.

  • I would like to see the herd trick being used again, maybe in episode 3 but everyone survives it this time.

  • I think Lee was about twenty minutes from being a walker when that happened. He was really grey. Clem is the one who thought It was the blood because she didn't know he was bitten at the time.

  • Well it's not something many are going to pick up easy unless it's by accident like Lee when he got walker guts splattered all over himself. The real question is why once figuring out this trick don't people continue to use it? Why aren't they using cloaks or ponchos with the walker guts smeared on it that they can put them on without having to make their clothes filthy? Or is this like the eagles in The Lord of The Rings, where if people kept using those things, it will resolve a lot of problems and threats the main cast face and make things less scary?

Honestly when Clementine finally starts splattering walker guts on her face, I hope it freaks Javier and co the hell out and they thinks she's crazy! XD or she just shows up completely covered in blood and gives Javi a scare.

  • In Season 3 episode 2 when the group are on the roof, Clem did not even suggest walking through with walker guts on them, seems weird as it worked for her and most of her friends in Season 2.

  • Probably because they'd need to get a hold of a walker or so first to do that, and it might've been impossible to do so without being swamped by that many dead when attempting to climb down from the roof.

  • How can you even stand the smell of all rotting guts? Wouldn't you automatically puke? Some people puke when they are scared, plus the smell... Extreme survival instincts and all that shit, but isn't vomiting a protective brain's mechanism in that case?

It's 3am. Why do I wonder about it.

Okay, that actually actually sounds like something I'd like to see her do.

I was referring to when she first speaks in In Harm's Way..
EDIT: Btw, one of the related videos for this GirlsPlay one about Jane is called Tits for Harambe. Coincidence?

  • Oh, whoops, wasn't completely sure if that was what you were talking about. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what happens if you don't back her up there but i'm pretty sure she wouldn't have a real reaction since she doesn't seem to care if you don't back her up in any other situations. And I've actually never seen any of their other videos, but LOL to that title.

  • If you don't have access to soap or medicine it's best to avoid covering yourself in diseases.

  • In fairness the Garcia family is a poor example, considering they aren't known for their brains.

Humour aside, it's too great a risk. What if it went wrong?

  • Because its a risky tactic, it went to all hell when they did it when leaving Carvers camp, its an absolute last resort, and most of the time you can avoid being in situations where its needed by being smart, but then again, Javier and his family have shown that they are anything but smart so far, how they survived for 4 years is beyond me

  • I wonder how Jane just found out about the trick? She must of been desperate.

She likes the smell and feel of bodily fluids all over her ...body.

  • But hey on this game they get clean magically all the time so it's not a problem for telltale

I gotta admit, I've been hoping we'll see something like that.

  • Yeah, it did bother me that Clementine, Rebecca, and Jane were just randomly clean an hour or two after they got out of the herd.

  • I can sorta see it with Rebecca(unfortunately) but Jane is just naturally dirty and I can barely tell wtih Clementine for some reason.

Still doesn't explain why they're as clean as they are.

    Funny you say that.

This charming fellow is a member of a group called the Whisperers, who are a set of antagonists within the comics. They got this name because they talk in whispers while they - ahem - wear walker skins as disguises. Maybe not the most charming or formal clothes to wear - though definitely memorable - but definitely the most effective when it comes to being all sneaky in walker herds.

By talking in whispers and keeping the walker skins on, they can move undetected in herds. Which makes them super scary - are you sneaking past a dumb walker, or are you walking into the range of a guy dressed up as a dumb walker? Because the Whisperers are disguised, they can make full use of knives and guns to get the drop on unsuspecting survivors. It's really gruesome, but also a really creative way of dealing with the walker bodies. Hell, I'd have suggested composting. 'least this way the dead body gets some mileage out of it.

But, I mean, if they wear a whole skin, maybe they're working on their own line of fashionable clothes right now! Snazzy jackets, summer clothes - maybe a suit and neck tie!

I think I can even see one of their posters now!

  • Actually Michonne walked through the herd with Sam and Pete but they had 2 walkers in front of them instead of put guts on them. I wonder why or how this worked?

  • I want to see a working boat so I can grant our Lord Kenny his final wishes

  • Honestly, Jane doesn't really need one. The one we got might've fell deeper into the uncanny valley, but she still looks like she succeeded in her hard attempts at fitting it with the new visual style; Kenny on the other hand just does not belong--the beard/eyepatch alone is worth an asswhuppin.

  • I think someone said something about the walkers sense of smell being thrown off and the site of people behind walkers who aren't reacting to them means they have no inclination to attack.

  • I admit the eyepatch could have been bigger and darker but Jane did kinda look like she had chubby cheeks c:
