Comparing designs of Characters across Popular Franchises: Character Arcs
I created this board to discuss the various characters throughout the Telltale Walking Dead Universe, and to relate them to the designs of other characters we've seen both within and outside of Telltale and throughout Popular Media.
When it comes to Character Design I would like people to pick a specific character within the TT WALKING DEAD Universe, relate them to another character either within or outside of the franchise, and explain their reasoning.
Update: In terms of design, I would like for people to focus on How Individual Characters are Written (Character arcs, Character development, etc).
Update: I would like for people to focus on just a small number of characters. Between one and three per post would be good. You may also focus on your favorite ones if you can narrow it down. You may also compare the same character more than one time if you wish. Be sure to explain the comparisons you make without going too in depth if you can.
Comments
We sorta have one already.
HERE
That thread takes various characters and fits them into Categories. This one focuses on individual characters and makes comparisons of their Designs to those of other characters throughout Popular Media, not Just TWD.
Update: In terms of design, I want us to focus on how characters are written: Personalities, Character arcs, etc.
Not really; that's simply me arranging the characters based on my view of their designs at the time. Every post afterwards is just people giving their own example, posting a picture of a design they want to talk about or confusing the original title with my attractiveness thread.
With that said, I do think this thread has potential since it fits a more specific niche, so good luck!
Awww, you thought about big ol me? How sweet of you, but I do think this thread has potential since it fits a more specific niche--thanks anyway!
I always thought Carver looks like a Walker Texas Ranger villain in a shit colored coat.
Pete looks like an elder Johnny Klebitz.
And Jane kinda looks like a butch Naruto or a stereotypical dike in general.
This thread focuses specifically on character writing and development. Here's an example:
Clementine went from a virtually helpless child, to sort of a badass, to A TOTAL BADASS.
In terms of her arc over the years, Clem's character development is very similar to that of Teen Gohan from DBZ.
Up until the end of the Cell arc, Gohan went from a helpless child, to a tougher child, to a FUCKING BEAST bruh.
Wait, so it's about comparing the characters in general rather than just the designs? Then you should probably change the title of your thread then to reflect that. I actually suggesting doing something similar months ago, but it never went anywhere, so I definitely want to see this thread take off.
Here's the edit code:
I said it before, but I'll say it again:
Lee Everett remindes me a LOT to Lee Scoresby from His Dark Materials, and Lyra a little bit to Clem in S1. They are from the book series written by Phillip Pullman.
So basically Scoresby is a random dude that doesn't quite have a home but would like to, and finds this random 11-years-old girl that starts as a cute cinnamon roll but by the third part of the series becomes a cute badass manipulator. Scoresby helps a lot this girl (Lyra Belaqua/Silvertonge) to find a loved one she got separated from, and if I don't remember wrong, to find her "uncle" (SPOILER surprise he's her biological father congrats evil father cliche how unespected). Basically she "goes missing" (I don't want to spoil too much) and the dude spends the whole second book looking for her. At the end some russian soldiers (YEAH RUSSIAN I KNOW) find him and the dude he's traveling with, and Scoresby sacrifices himself to give the other dude some time to scape and find Lyra and keep her safe. In this battle his arm gets so damaged he can't use it anymore, and he dies looking for the girl. The last thing he sees are a pair of golden eyes.
In the third book, Lyra is kiddnapped from a crazy lady that makes weird experiments with children (that basically includes ripping them apart from their soul with a silver gillotine). She claims to be her real mother and that she loves her more than anything and wants to start a family with her, even though she keeps her tied and in coma with some weird chinesse food in a fucking mountain.
Scoresby makes an apparition later in the book as a ghost, calling Lyra his daughter, which reminded me of Clem's dream after being shot.
Ummm I think the simmilarities are evident.
(I hope I didn't get the objetive of the thread wrong I probably did i'm a fucking mess i'm sorry)
Why are we spoilering everything?
Hey it's fine. If anything try to focus more on personality traits and character progression/dynamics.
Clementine said "The thing about people is that they always change."
How has Clementine changed throughout the series? What other character in fiction can u think of who underwent a similar sort of change? This is what I'm looking for, just for future reference. It doesn't have to be Clem either. It can be some other character.
Seriously, don't sweat it. Okay? Jeeze.
Yea. I agree that DOES sound like what happened in S1 actually.
If you hadn't guessed by now, I'm a fan of Steven Universe! As I said to @GohanFGC, I considered doing a similar thread months ago partly because I wanted to make the Counterpart Comparison. So, here's my connections drawn off the top of my head cause I didn't write this shit down, so excuse me if I ramble:
Garnet as a single gem I think can be applied to both Lee Everett and Chuck the Hobo. Garnets help protect from the forces of evil by scaring off the bad guys like a parent would, something that Lee displays both before and after Chuck's often misquoted advice. He also learns to able to keep a balanced head in tense situations by keeping his violent anger in check while using his wits to fight effectively.
Kenny : Greg, Ruby, Ronaldo, Bismuth, Andy
Duck's hyperactive and enthusiastic antics around the motel and both of the barnyards gives him a common trait between Steven, Ronaldo, and the defective Carnelian. His game of detective to help Lee find out who's been stealing the supplies shows hints of a fun-loving passion for helping others.
Larry is a somewhat loud mouthed and conservative dad who is quick to yell at others for their shortcomings, sometimes in favor of vouching for his daughter Lilly. Because of these traits, he can be related to Kofi, Holly Blue Agate, and Uncle Andy.
Christa's somewhat judgmental and particular attitude may have earned her some irritated expressions from Lee at first, but she was actually an expecting mother whose a keen sense of foresight in how to deal with other survivors made her feel like a cross between Sapphire and Priyanka.
Omid is often well regarded for his joking, easy-going, and friendly demeanor, usually attempting to lighten the mood in bleak situations for his friends sake even if it sometimes made him seem like a chucklehead at times. This, along with his odd interest in American History, makes him feel like a congregation between Amethyst, Sour Cream and Jamie.
Shel and Becca are opposite behaving siblings who act in a manner expected according to their role: Shel is the responsible and soft-spoken older sister, while Becca is the bratty and mischievous younger sister. This gave them a dynamic reminiscent of the duos of Sadie & Lars and Kiki & Jenny.
Michelle: Peridot, Eyeball
Alvin: Garnet, Greg, Doug
Carlos: Garnet, Priyanka, Yellow Diamond
Sarah: Steven, Connie, Ronaldo, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Diamond
Carver: Jasper
Sarita: Sadie, Rose Quartz
Walter: Greg, Dewey, Jamie,
Troy: Yellow Pearl, Holly Blue Agate
Jane: Lars, Ronaldo, Jasper, Yellow Diamond
Arvo: Lapis Lazuli, Blue Diamond
Feel free to make suggestions
For future reference, try to focus on just a smaller number of characters. Between one and three per post would be good. U may focus on ur favorite ones if u can narrow it down. U could also compare the same character to more than one other character if u wish. Also, try to elaborate some to explain the comparisons ur making if u will. Be sure not to go too in depth with ur explanation if u can avoid it.
Alright, good point. I was originally gonna do a select few and just went "Fuckit! Let's throw it all in!"
Yea. I agree. They'll probably release another longer one pretty soon though.
What the heck is that doing in there? Thanks for pointing that out.
