I didn't know I could like Ava more, but here it is.
Special shout-out to Clem's hilarious animation.
Not sure why that matters, seeing as this is at the beginning of the episode and is long before Joan or even the concept of multiple leaders are introduced.
Considering AJ was sick to the point that Dr. Lingard thought he would die and Clementine had just gotten herself kicked back into the wild due to her desperation, I'd say she(though mostly David) did her a favor. Especially given what happens later.

There are more Conrad scenes I heard of, which are more important and end in David being behind attacking other settlements and not Joan.
So, compared to the other Conrad scenes, apparently this one doesn't really say much, only, that Conrad wants to get the ppl who shot Francine and that he wants answers..

At best she is complicit in not caring about the death of two children.
Uh...wait, are you talking about Ava or Clementine?
Cause if you meant the former, I'm pretty sure she's the one who vouched for their presence in the group, asked David to let Clementine say goodbye, and possibly helped take care of AJ before and afterwards considering he looked right at her after Clementine left(at least if you do so, as it's hard to tell in this version).
Btw, gotta love that payoff
"Clem has an Ep3 scene that literally broke me. Fact. "
{Spits in David's face and gets pulled away like a misbehaving toddler in Walmart}
She stole meds for a sick toddler, thats not even a crime in my book. At best she is complicit in not caring about the death of two children.
You all defend her if you want. I see her as nothing more than the piece of garbage I marked her for.

Ava vouched for Clem multiple times. "David leave her be, she's just helping her kid" and she's the one who gave Clementine the opportunity to say goodbye to AJ. I think she was following orders, splitting them wasn't her idea. It was David.

She took a child out of the arms of the only family he has ever known, a child she has given up for dead just like all of David's crew had. What's the point of keeping AJ if he's dead anyway? All it does is serve to harm Clem more. Then if Clem reacts emotionally to basically having her child kidnapped in front of her, Ava wishes terrible things upon her.
Ava is a bad person, and bad people are capable of doing good things, but as soon as Clem doesnt toe David's bullshit line she turns on her. She is just a lap dog at best in my book.

Sometimes I like to think that okay people can be in bad situations, or okay people do bad things sometimes. She vouched for her, she went against David's orders for her. Clem technically threw away the opportunity right in front of Ava. So I can see why she was upset. And, honestly, the baby did have a better chance with them than with Clementine. Ava knew this.
Yes, but as soon as Clem spits on him what does she do?
She says nasty shit to Clem. Ava is not some innocent party, just following orders is never an excuse for doing the wrong thing.
Oh, so it's basically exposition that's relatively minor compared to his other scenes--gotcha.
Also, I thought the David being the warmonger was only true if you killed Max?

Oh I agree completely, I think I'm basically a decent person, but I've also done some pretty awful things. The good doesn't make up for the bad but the bad doesn't good cancel out the good either.
AJ was gonna die in their eyes, they were not gonna give him medical care, so I dont think he was better off with them. The only reason he may have survived was because of Clem.
But in the story AJ was dying, Clem had no other recourse but to steal those meds. I can not fault Clem one bit for doing that, to hell with rules, the right thing was to try and save AJ. David, Ava, and his whole crew were monsterous in that moment. In my mind there just no two ways about it. You heal the sick, you dont worry about how many supplies it takes, you help who you can and you worry about what comes next afterwards.
Now outside of this game and in real life I would be more understanding of both sides, but when one of those sides is Clem's that's the only side I come down on.
So I hope Clem has a strait razor in her boot, because I want to cut Ava.

Okay, you just got the pronouns overlapping, but that was assumption anyway.

Like I alluded to, I got the feeling from day one that Ava was genuinely interested in those two and would likely take care of AJ in Clementine's absence if he ever turned up again. David claimed he should've just left him in the woods to begin with and while we're not sure if he was just letting his anger talk at that point, it seemed clear to me that Ava had their best interests in mind from the get-go but only interjected occasionally because of the rules.
as soon as Clem doesnt toe David's bullshit line she turns on her. She is just a lap dog at best in my book.
Yeah, admittedly, I'm not quite sure if I like that aspect that much, even if it does give her some plot significance and more personal ties to the main cast. I mean, Ava in Episode 1.2 seemed laid back and unfailingly chummy, even inviting Clementine to dinner despite how rude/threatening she had determinately been towards her; here though, she's pretty much a rock who David understandably refers to as "a fucking soldier." I mean, I knew she would be acting on his orders in the flashback since the trailer but I didn't expect she would be so gruff and stolid throughout the entire episode. And while she still has a few hidden depths going on and it admittedly led to two funny moments, it makes her seem a little too grumpy at times now that she's around other people besides Clementine and AJ.
Oh Im talking about Ava.

I tend to lean on pronouns pretty hard and expect people to read my mind.
I admit I'm someone who didn't like Ava from the jump. So I am looking for a reason to hate here. I can certainly see why you, Sleep and DLB are dedending her.
Mostly Im just glad the story is finally in a place where these kind of discussions can occur again.

How reassuring that none of the visual, technical, or animation problems were fixed whatsoever.
The story just seems inoffensive and lukewarm. It just sort of trudges along without any real character connection or depth, just waiting for itself to be over. It's not horrible, but it feels uneventful and disconnected from player engagement, which isn't what you want for your Magnum Opus franchise.
But no, clearly you need to put all of your funding and effort into a movie tie in, that obviously wont upset people.
Mostly Im just glad the story is finally in a place where these kind of discussions can occur again.
Yeah, seriously! It felt like just yesterday, we were all complaining about how superficial, bland, and just there almost everything felt in the first two-parter, now this episode dumped so much plot & characterization & world-building & shit that some of us don't even know where to start half the time. Though the fact that it leaked and we're not allowed to talk about it outside this thread has something to do with that.

Without too many spoilers, can anyone tell me if the decision to tell them about Mariana or stay silent has an effect on the later parts of the episode?
The funny thing is that 95% of players (who killed Conrad) will barely see Clementine in Episode 3. If Clementine is with you then she and C… moreonrad will have some interesting interactions in this episode. I don't want to spoil anything but those who killed Conrad will miss some interesting stuff.
I wonder what Clem's flashbacks will include now, all of her "mystery" is gone now that AJ's fate is revealed and her past with the New Frontier is explained.

Yeah, admittedly that is a concern of mine. Either they'll show some of her time in the New Frontier now that the cat is out of the bag and into the cabinet or they'll show us what she was up to afterwards, maybe coinciding with your choices in the game proper.

The next flashback will be Clem chopping down a tree, it'll take 20 minutes and Teltale will say they listened to our feedback about more playtime as Clem.

That scene says nothing and doesn't interfere with the "Joan is behind it" ending
Ava has done nothing that deserves death.
She helped take AJ, she gonna die in my game, just give me an opportunity, please.
lol Ava

Yeah, how did this guy become a Diamond?

Well, now I finally found myself an excuse.
I wonder what Clem's flashbacks will include now, all of her "mystery" is gone now that AJ's fate is revealed and her past with the New Frontier is explained.
Hopefully we will have the chance to play as her during the present.

I'm English and I've never heard of that name.
The next flashback will be Clem chopping down a tree, it'll take 20 minutes and Teltale will say they listened to our feedback about more playtime as Clem.
Hopefully that'll be accompanied with flashes and voiceovers of her memories of things we don't know about, cause otherwise fuck that!
More like they reuse old lines of dialouge from seasons 1 & 2.
I know, my optimism is ridiculous.
Link?
"That's funny. She looks just like you!"
The (?) Clem will remember that message didn't lie.
