I haven't felt like this since Season 1 (Spoiler free impressions)

Above the Law is better than any episode in S2. It had such tension and emotion, branching choices, badass meter through the roof, well written and expanded characters, twists, hard decisions, baseball brutality and a perfect goddamn cliffhanger. Okay scratch the last part, fuck cliffhangers. Anyway, when I heard Alive Inside during THAT scene I remembered how much this series means to me, I remembered how much I cared about Clementine, I remembered how much I want this series to not suck. And when I was racing to get that fucking door open and the sides slowly but surely turned more and more red, the music got more and more intense, the characters started screaming and I couldn't find the thing I was supposed to click on I instantly remembered the moment (S1) where I attracted the walkers by a stupid gunshot in a sewer and my only chance was to find a fast fucking way out. And I felt such hatred and compassion for certain characters in this episode I swear I screamed out loud "YOU MOTHERFUCKER" more than once. Shit even Jesus (The cool one) was like "Dude, watch that shit". Long story short, this episode was amazing. Here's hoping the other two are even better. You're going in the right direction Telltale.

And for the 14 % of you who gave up (you know what I mean), be ashamed.

  • I really liked how the only "adventure" segment was a race against the clock.

Be ashamed of what? The fact that I'm NOT some Telltale fanboy? Whatever, kiddo you keep on loving mediocrity.

  • That's not what I was referring to. I feared someone would post something like this but for the sake of no spoilers, I was talking about a certain choice. Hence the 14%. Anyway have a fine day/night sir!

  • Don't get me wrong, this was a great episode, but I still don't think this was better than Season 2's episodes other than Amid the Ruins. This episode did a lot of things right and fixed some problems, but a lot of what was wrong with episode 1 is still prevalent. I still enjoyed it, and that scene was easily the highlight and one of my favorite scenes, but am I willing to go as far as what you said, no.

14%? I have no idea what your on about? what choice?

  • I said I was sorry for what happened but it didnt feel like my place to hug her. It felt weird to just hug her when the two were not even that close, maybe if a pat on the shoulder or something was an option I would have picked it.

  • What the medicine one? I guess people didnt want to be a thief,

The one where you play as "Not Javier".

  • Sorry, I feel like I'm going too far. I just think there is NO good reason not to hug Clementine. Otherwise, Javi hugging Clem makes him feel like he is hugging Mariana, you know?

  • That hug is cute anyway

Eh, Im not really feeling new frontier clementine. She feels like a different person half the time

    • Lack of playable Clementine: she was advertised as a coplayable character, however, she is easily replaceable and just in it so Telltale can attract all the old fans. This game would have worked better if it either solely focused on her or got rid of her all together. I am fine with her being playable only in flashbacks, but I would like those flashbacks to be either longer or more numerous to justify their decision.
    • Clementine is still the same regardless: all that 42 different versions of Clem still don't seem to be present. Much like in episode 1, she has about 1-2 lines thrown in for Telltale to say "See, past choices impact Clem," but for the large part, she's still the same. Choices in this episode were handled quite well, but from previous seasons, not so much.
    • Gabe and Clem: okay, this one is just my personal preference, but I really don't like this, and I have no say in this matter whatsoever.
    • Pushing Kate and Javi: I think I get Rhyiona's complaints about TFTBL now, the game really does want you to go down this route in order to create conflict between David, Javi, and Kate. I've been trying to keep their relationship platonic, but it feels like I'm being forced down this route. And it still feels as if Eleanor is there to be another possible interest, despite Tripp saying he's going to tell her how he feels. Maybe it's just me looking to far into it, but I'm just not a huge fan of this aspect of the game.
    • Pacing: while not as bad as Ties That Bind, parts of the game still felt slightly rushed despite the longer length of the episode compared to TTB. For example, right after THAT scene, which was slow, emotional, and sweet, it practically jumps right back into the fast paced action, not giving you time to savor the moment.

lot of what was wrong with episode 1 is still prevalent Could you specify please?

  • Nope didn't do it for me again. If i was to be generous it was better than the last 2 episodes but only in terms of story.

The episode was once again 90% watching cutscenes and choosing dialogue. We literally had one scene of gameplay! One fucking scene! And by gameplay i don't mean the Q&E's, i mean being able to move Javier around when searching for the car jack, fuck all hubs, choices have felt like nothing again so far and once more we get very little of Clem. Also i still don't care about any of the characters like i did with Season 1.

Disappointing again and I knew it would be but i expect this from
Telltale now. It upsets me that they'll never make such a good game as season 1 again

  • You play Telltale games so you could click on stuff and hear the character make obvious remarks or something?

  • It's my favorite episode from this season by light years.
The only part that I didn't like was when I needed to reject Kate's advances TWICE AGAIN then when Gabe insinuated that there was something between us the only options were variations of "Yup, you have me pegged. I guess I can't hide my love for her."
The whole time I just wanted to say, "UUGH. SHUT THE FUUUUUUUDGE UUUUUP. There is NOTHING between us. NOOOOOTHING. The great irony is that I'm putting the moves on YOUR GIRL Eleanor, NOT HER."

  • "The one that didn't die..." I was like YOOOO poor clem lol

  • Alright, you guys need to stop using no playable Clem as a reason to hate this game.Suddenly making Clem playable in the present time after 3 episodes of Javier, wouldn't it?Just let go.But yeah,I get the other points,I don't know why they'd advertise the whole "use your past choices for different Clem"thing,it's way too hard of a thing to pull off.So basically, the marketing was the problem:Mislesding which led to diss appointment.

  • I have never once said I hated this game, all in all, it's still very good. And my reasoning for using that as a complaint is not just because we have played as her before, it's largely because Telltale said she would be a co-playable character along with Javi. Having her playable for a max of 5 minutes in each episode is not being a co-playable character. Again, this game probably would have worked better if she just wasn't in it at all, or maybe if they just had her be a full on supporting character. Because as it stands, having one moment in each episode where we randomly shift from Javi to Clem doesn't flow correctly. It worked in games like TFTBL or GOT because all of them got practically equal playing time, but here, you might as well not even play as her because it changes nothing.

So I will continue to use little playable Clem as a criticism because it was falsely advertised and because it hurts the game as a whole.

Alright, you guys need to stop using no playable Clem as a reason to hate this game.Suddenly making Clem playable in the present time after 3

  • I play a game to be invested in the story, to get attached to the characters we are introduced to, to receive character development, to be able to actually play a game by controlling the character and explore the given areas we visit, for our choices to feel like they matter, to play a lengthy episode of 2 hours+. The hubs are fascinating to explore and hearing Lee from Season 1 make often amusing remarks was brilliant. I also play a game that offers puzzles or optional side quests as they did in season 1.

So yeah you can see why i feel strongly when comparing this game's lack of quality to that of Season 1. If you like this game though that's absolutely fine, more power to you but i have my reasons

You play Telltale games so you could click on stuff and hear the character make obvious remarks or something?

  • Because we started out as Lee. We knew Lee and Clementine an equal time in S1, hence why people everybody was happy with Lee being a PC.

Wasn't a problem in S1 was it? I honestly don't know where I'm going with this...

  • So essentially you Hate every Telltale game Post Walking dead season 1 because of the lack of puzzles.

Puzzles in season 1 were pretty terrible imo. Last great series with puzzles was Devil's Playhouse (I enjoyed Back to the future but the puzzles were very by the book). I love point and clicks with puzzles, but Telltale lost that luster a while ago, so now I'm just here for a good story and some minor pointing and clicking. Hubs I understand though even if they were a little too frequent in season 1.

  • It wasn't so much about the puzzles themselves being fun for me. The downtime made the games feel more authentic and real, rather than feeling like an interactive movie with everything moving so quickly. Also the interaction with the characters where you get to choose what to ask them, choose who to form friendships with and who to form a rivalry with is all gone. The whole politics part of the game has been greatly reduced and is non existant at times.
