Please stop with the forced romance with Kate.

It's painfully obvious that they want us to be with Kate. That's probably the only gripe I have about the story. It's so annoying that there is no option to reject Kate. When Tripp was asking us about Kate, I got mad that I couldn't say no. All choices ended up having some kind of form of admitting it besides stay silent. I don't like forced romance so this is a turn off for me. Especially with David around now, it makes it even worse. The fact that Javi and Kate won't stop with the "I want to be with you" talk even when David is 2 doors down makes them pretty unlikeable. I just hope we don't go down that road of being with Kate in the end.

  • I couldn't agree more. It was also on my small list of complaints for this episode. It seems Telltale have also dropped Javi & Eleanor as a couple, which I don't care too much about, as long as Javier can stay away from Kate.

I'm thinking there's going to be a flashback where Javier & Kate have actually done stuff with each other, and that is why it's so forced. Kate is now number 1 on my list of least favourite characters who are still alive. She complains about everything, and I'm starting to think David wasn't the problem in their marriage.

  • I liked it a lot...I ship them...

  • Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either. Kept rejecting her during the flashbacks which was nice, but no real option during the conversation with Tripp to say otherwise. Well, there kinda is, but they made it seem that Tripp could see through your bullshit by the end of it.

I have a feeling there is going to be a choice between her and David, saving/not saving or otherwise, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be an easy one for me.

  • Meh. Kate's my 2nd favorite new character anyway and the episode barely focused on that aspect of her, so maybe it'll continue to be somewhat downplayed and you may have the choice to confess to her if you want to or simply keep it to yourself for the sake of what's right.

Honestly they raised two kids for years on their own in the apocalypse, unless Javier was gay it would be sort of unrealistic if they weren't together.

  • Yeah the whole love triangle thing is boring. Plus its gonna come out at some point and be irritating

I was talking to Poogs about this, and I see where he and other Rhyionas are coming from with TFTBL. I do think TFTBL did somewhat better in giving you choices to reject it and actually had choices you made impact Sasha's feelings towards you, but with Kate, I've been trying to be platonic and she's not getting it. And there are sometimes where all your options as Javi reveal that you have feelings for Kate except for silence, you don't even get a chance to say there's nothing going on. Telltale really wants to go down this road with her to create a love triangle (square if you want to throw in Eleanor) between Javi, Kate, and David to add unnecessary conflict. It could be interesting if done right, and I hope Telltale works on this aspect for future episodes, but as of now, I'm really not liking it.

  • The one and only thing I hope for is that I don't have to be with Kate. I don't care for her character, and if someone no longer cares for their husband/wife - divorce them. Don't attempt to seduce their brother/sister, their best friend, or anyone else. It really rubs me the wrong way.

David returned from serving his country, and seems to have some PTSD. Still, the guy stayed close to support his family. He was there for his father's death, took care of and provided for his two children from his first wife, and cares nothing for the community's rules when it comes to risking his wife's life. Yes, he has to play politics for Javi and those he brought with him, but he can see that they're fine.

Javi and David have enough history together for them to have an interesting dynamic ( as rivals or mending burnt bridges ) that they don't require Kate attempting to sever Javi from his family or David from his last living kid.

  • The only thing I hated about it was....episode 3 spoilers.

The absurdity of how quickly Kate wants to ditch David. The feelings for Javi are understandable considering the situation but that was just cold and a huge turn off. We basically at that point in time know nothing. It seems as if David is being played by people. Yup, lets just grab his son and leave this town and go back to being out nowhere. That's insane to me.

It's also a bit ridiculous that it feels implied that even though it's been years. NOTHING happened between them until the flirting starts in ep 1. Not to mention did I mishear something or was Davids excuse about the hospital totally ridiculous? They appeared to live in a normal suburban area. Is the friggin hospital 2,000 miles away? How could David have possibly ended up traveling AWAY from the house instead of going back? Yeah forced is an appropriate word to say the least....

  • Yeah I don't know why Kate isn't taking the hint yet. It's borderline villain behaviour. The way she was also getting the family to try and leave David at the end as well was ridiculous. Brothers wife just isn't happening. Hoping this will mean Kate is the real big villain after the NF business is done with LOL.

  • I agree man bros before hoes!

  • Couldn't agree more. Kate should grow up. Live up with her husband, he ain't the same as before.

Javi can have small love for her or BIG ASS I LOVE YOU kate shit but seroiusly telltale I want to be a bro to my bro David why must I love her with telltale's pressure.
Did the writers watch twd TV show? They thought this was a good idea making a rick/Shane/lorry love triangle

  • Agreed. There is like still an option to decline that choices & actions and I always do it, but in the general atmosphere it feels like you're being heavily pressed anyway.

  • The more I think about it, the more I would like to abandon this stress with the triangle relationship between David, Javier and Kate...

  • A-fucking-men. I can't stand this. The scene where David was like "isn't my wife beautiful?" made me cringe hardcore.

  • This looks like another Rhysha tbh.

Lucky for me this time I'm down for the romance telltale is doing. However I'm expecting it to end up just like Rhysha for players who don't want it. Every rejection will not really reject her.

However I will say this time I wouldn't say it's as shoehorned as Rhysha. First it's obviously trying to cause a rift with David and Javi, romance is still a dumb way to do this though, just like how Telltale tried to use it for Rhys and Fiona's rift. However why I say it's not super shoe horned as much as Rhysha is because it's a preestablished relationship. Rhys and Sasha made no sense because Rhys just met Sasha and I was always in control of the relationship they should have had, then one I was choosing. However Kate and Javi knew each other before the outbreak and were alone together for 4 years off screen.

Basically yes it's still forced but atleast its preestsblished.

  • It's so annoying, especially when you have absolutely no interest in Kate. I have done everything possible to stop Javier romancing with Kate, and I still got Gabe telling David "stuff" and Tripp asking about it. I fail to see how developing a determinant character is more important than people reacting correctly to my previous choices. Looks like a big deal, considering the whole story seems to be revolving around David-Kate-Javi triangle and this sad, traumatic romance, which I couldn't care less for.

  • Honestly, Kates entire character has come off as completely oblivious to anything going on, running through gunfire and getting shot to get to a dead body, not trusting David, (even though I tried to leave him at the end of episode 3, but thats because I dont trust Richmond), she has shown to be completely oblivious to the world, even though she has been living in it for 4 years, this is probably the most frustrating thing about this whole season, only Clementine and Jesus seems to understand what it takes to survive, Tripp is too soft, we have barely seen Eleanor, and Gabe and Kate are completely clueless. Javier is learning thanks to Clementine, but he is still very unlikely to have survived those 4 years from what I have seen

  • Then reject her advances? I mean it's Kate that's pushing you, not Javier himself.

  • It's not forced. Just don't chose any flirtatious response. It's comprehensible why others would think Javi and Kate are a couple, she is acting very clingy towards Javier. She seems to feel lonely (understandably so) and probably was never deeply in love with her husband. That's part of her personality. People like these exist in real life, kids.

  • Now that David is alive I'm not cucking him. He's pretty chill and not the man I thought he would be at all.

  • I was never supportive of this romance sub plot. I'm not a fan of Kate or anything really about her. It does feel like Telltale is trying to force this love triangle on you, especially this episode. There are choices around it, but the fact that it keeps creeping up and Kate basically wanting to just be with Javier and not as freinds bothers the crap outta me. The way I see it is Kate has 3 personality traits, wants to bang Javier, smokes weed, and is a damsel in distress.

  • I think I got Kate to hate my Javi now cause I refused to run off with her. I don't know, I don't feel running when my brother is in trouble.

I don't want to get between david and he's family at all but telltale fucking forcing me fuck that i don't want any problems with my brother fuck kate i know my brother more and before her she will never turn me on my bro no.

  • Please stop with the forced survival of Kate.

    Fixed it for you.

  • I dont really see what the problem is here, you can rebuff Kate if you want to. Kate however seems to have no interest left in David and is interested in Javier, but go figure, if you dont like it, you cant control the actions of other people

  • I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this under, but does anyone know what happens if you tell David about Kate and Jaiver's "Relationship"?(Which still comes up as an option even if you've rejected the hell out of her.)

  • He's pretty cool. Besides, he reveals that Gabe already told him.

  • Not really... the dialogue goes like - David: "Gabe told me everything", and Javi: "Whatever he told you, it is all true" but what David meant was the whole Mariana/Prescott thing, nothing about Kate and his brother.

He's pretty cool. Besides, he reveals that Gabe already told him.

  • What if I want Eleanor romance option? why that isn't a thing?

  • I think they should make the romance optional rather than forcing it on everyone regardless.

  • Yes, Exactly! Every chance I was given to advance some kind of relationship with her I've always turned it down. But this freakin' game always perpetuates this notion that I have some sort of secret romance. I fear this is gonna force me into some forced drama with David, something I've been trying to avoid. :/

  • I like kate. The like the way her character's being handled and I don't approve of her behavior though. I also like javier. He's okay. Eleanor is adorable and sweet. She's one of my favorites. Tripp's okay. Clem remains my number one and will always remain my number one. Kenny, lee, ava and marianna are below clem but are also my favorite characters. Jesus is cool and aj's cool too.

  • Why U asking

Where the hell did you get whore from

  • Agree. I have played my Javi to reject every advance from her. I want to be loyal to David and my family and I have played that role. I gave my word at the beginning of the game.

It's obvious they want to create this division between Javi and David in later episodes and I want no part in it.

Then stay silent (in game, not in real life) and quite complaining! There's a reason for the "forced romance", so get used to it. It's gonna happen either way.

  • To be honest, after Episode 3, it doesn't really feel forced anymore. One of the few good things this episode offers. Also, there is no reason for Javier to reject Kate. You only want that option for the sake of a decision, it wouldn't add anything to the story.
