Why I think Wellington is the best option for ANF

I noticed something and I'm gonna explain why I think Wellington is the best flashback outcome for A New Frontier. Here is why.

  1. Clementine's first introduction to The New Frontier

This is the only flashback where The New Frontier has a role in.

Edith gets killed by a New Frontier member while Jane just commits suicide and Kenny dies by car accident and walkers.

  1. AJ's first words forshadowing

Remember that AJ can call Clementine's name in Episode 3 flashback?

Well, that's what Clem asked him to say in Wellington flashback

I'm saying that the Wellington flashback is the only one who served purpose to this season while the others just don't mean anything.

  • Jane flashback just shows Clementine getting an "AJ" tattoo on her right hand showing how much she cares about him but we all know already how much she does, she calls him "Goofball" several times.
  • Kenny flashback shows Kenny teaching Clem how to drive but regardless what you choose, she learns how to drive anyway. Either by plot or The New Frontier.
  • Alone flashback, as a default flashback for the new players, serves nothing but Clementine losing her ring finger. Who cares about that situation anymore?

What do you think?

  • Shit, I forgot to say that the main purpose of Season 2 is to reach Wellington. Carver's camp didn't do shit and wasn't even a plan.

  • In my opinion, the New Frontier should've been replaced with Wellington considering how even when you reached it at the end of Season Two, you still didn't know jack-shit about it. And also that way it feels like the whole goal of Season Two at least amounts to something and isn't just thrown to the side.

  • To me, the best thing outta this ending is that Kenny might be alive out there somewhere.

  • Can you give AJ Kenny's hat if you got the Wellington ending?

  • You can pick it up when leaving Wellington but its not been seen since

  • Telltale forgot about it.

  • Agreed. Wellington was my ending for S2 and I'm glad it was when I saw the other scenarios. Didn't like the way Kenny and Jane were written off and the Alone scenario didn't really seem to serve a purpose. (Also, I can now head-canon Kenny is still alive or had a "good death" somewhere.)

    1. One of the few times where i will actually claim it was just reused assets. The dialogue from the attacking group shows that they were just a poor downtrodden group with kids that were starving. They didn't show any other sign of being NF asides from reused asset guy (who is killed and reappears during the present day, proving that he is just reused).
    2. The Kenny ending also emphasizes AJ's speech issues. Kenny was fretting about how he wasn't talking yet, and you can actually have a conversation and offer your opinion on the subject, unlike in Wellington. It also made AJ's first word that much more heartbreaking because Kenny wasn't around.

I honestly feel like the Kenny ending is the best for ANF. Clem is heartbroken and depressed at Kennys demise and you can justify her behavior. Meanwhile in the Wellington ending she turns into an edgelord despite living a normal life for a while.

He also had a NF symbol on his right arm, under his sleeve.

  • Yeah, because he was a reused asset like i pointed out

I don't get how the events of Wellington would lead Clementine to the conclusion "I shouldn't trust people again," in my game.

    Lee sacrificed himself for her.
Christa stayed with her for one and a half years.
Nick readily drew the walkers to let her escape from the shed.
Kenny did all in his power to reach Wellington.
Edith warned her and rushed her out of Wellington.

The only point I can see that Clementine would conclude that trusting others is a bad thing is the Mike/Bonnie betrayal and what happens with the New Frontier. If anything, trusting people is the only reason why she's alive.

  • Well I'd forget a few things too if I was told to rewrite, rewrite and then rewrite some more.

  • If we re going by the logic that Clem doesnt trust people anymore like in the game then i think that the Jane ending would be the most fitting because it happens earlier than the other flashbacks in a way that feels like not even a year has passed since the season 2 ending.
    And in order:
    Mike and Bonnie betrayed her.
Clem had to Shoot Kenny for Jane.
    The family betrays you.
and Jane leaves you ((By killing herself.))
Which would be what gives her that mindset.

  • Mike and Bonnie betrayed the group out of fear of Kenny not really for their benefit though and I agree I don't think the Wellington ending makes sense for that Jane ending does more.

  • This ending is also good for Kenny fans.
    1. Kenny remains unknown
    2. You get to keep Kenny's hat, and AJ might be wearing it when he returns

  • Yeah i'd agree with that. None are great but Wellington was better than the other endings. I always thought it would be a big community with lots of people, but it seemed to be taken over pretty easily without much of a struggle.

  • While I can agree with this, the flashback is still terrible, it's a very wasted opportunity.

  • I agree, Wellington would be the canon ending.
