I wish they gave me more reason to save Conrad, but they really didn't.
Here's my reasons:
1. He apologized and offers Javier a gun… more.
2. More character developement.
3. He helps out the group.
4. He does alot more then normal determinant characters.
5. If you chose to, Conrad delivers justice to Badger for what he did to his Francine.
Best episode this season so far IMO. It's definitely a lot better paced and took the plot in a pretty unexpected direction. That's what I love about this series so much. I've already said ANF is my least favorite out of the series, but if it keeps getting better and better, that might change.
Maybe, but even if you didn't kiss her or anything, it's still kinda obvious Javi has a thing for her regardless of your choices. I think the other characters are simply catching onto that is all.
Guys, did any of you have this problem? You know that during the ep 1/2 you can get something going on with Kate if you'd like. I didn't, bu… moret the characters still acted like I cucked David. I mean I didn't mind because I kinda wanted to have something going on with her but...yea. Is this a bug or what?
Clementine was actually marketed as a deuteroganist, not just a supporting character. We have known her for over 2 seasons, obviously players want to be with her and will choose her over new actual supporting characters like Conrad.
I never said they shouldn't do anything with Conrad. I'm saying that there were much more evenly split choices to put this newfound effort towards.
Plus if you're going to put this much effort towards something 10% of players will see, shouldn't you put an equal amount of effort towards the path that 90% will take? I mean I haven't had any additional dialogues about Conrad dying, I killed his best friend but Tripp just ignores it. I want players who killed Conrad to get into a fight with Tripp or at least an argument. Like come on.
It's too late to do much else with s2 other than force characters in, and Clementine is not the main character here she is the supporting ca… morest. Is she really that great a character that she has to be front and center? Just because you shot Conrad doesn't mean they should do nothing with him.
Conrad was done extremely well in this episode. He's actually become a double determinant character because if you don't give him a gun at t… morehe start of this episode he can die during it. Having him live is really satisfying since it completes his arc if you let him kill Badger.
I don't know why but I felt an amazing Wolf Among Us feeling from that Episode, not only because the music at the beginning when you are leaving the house is EXACTLY the same from Wolf Among Us, but how the topics are discussed, how the scenes are violent, how the dialogues were made (Though there wasn't any glass him).
I wanted to earn Clementine's trust more. (I hated the "loner" type she was and I wanted to make her not feel alone.)
He threatened Gabe. (Also, he's mad at me if I don't shoot him.)
And the real big reason. I thought at the moment that Conrad was going crazy because after he lost Francine he was all negative and dangerous, who fires a shotgun like Rambo on a dark tunnel full of walkers?
Even if I knew the future (Episode 3). I would act like I didn't knew, the way I play is that I act as it is in the situation right now and not in the future, even though I liked Conrad in the third episode judging the videos I wouldn't save him if I knew what he was like in episode 3 because that moment I wouldn't know as Javier.
I killed him because he threatened my brother's son.
I forgave him since he apologized. But I understand why you wouldn't want ignore it. But the good thing is that both Gabe and Clementine will be fine.
The camp scene plays out the same. She breaks the vial and the same thing happens. Even though they fixed the "choice illusion", some choices still don't matter. But it makes sense on this one, why would the new frontier kick Clementine otherwise?
(No, I stole the meds for AJ, I just watched alternative choices on YouTube.)
You're right, but it feels to me that Telltale had taken the worst possible time to consider making a more developed determinant character at this point. Starting with Conrad, when the vast majority have favoured killing him instead of agreeing with his plan to take Clementine hostage feels like a huge mistake to me.
There's also no rewind option, and I'm assuming that most players are likely not going to go through the effort of restarting Episode 2 to see what happens if they do not kill Conrad. And considering how savvy some players are with Telltale's tradition with choices and determinant characters, they likely assumed that Conrad would be given the same treatment the more recent determinant characters had.
The best part of the episode for me was that they didn't go down the path to make David the expected caricature bad guy. The writers gave us a David that I was not expecting. I'm hella thankful for it too.
Yea the episode was good. Really excited to see what happens In episode 4. Since nobody has mentioned this yet, I thought I would; wtf is up with Clem's lips when she hums to AJ in the new frontier camp? XD
This is dumb. Just because few people picked it doesn't mean they should've Sarah'd him. This means maybe they are working to improve and will actually give a shit about future determinant characters.
I think it was the car scene with Eleanor where you have that chat about Kate dying and stuff. That kinda sounded romantic no matter what and Eleanor was there to witness it. And it only made sense for Tripp to know if you left with him in episode 1 as you can kiss her/make the boner joke. Idk.

Yeah, that is something I hope they address in the next episode. It was an issue with Nick as well and heaven knows Tripp needs something to do.

I'm surprised Clem pretended that nothing happened. Because I'd be pretty pissed at somebody that tried to sell me out.
Yeah, if there was a considerable issue to have with the episode, it's that the whole "Use Clementine as a bargaining chip" subplot is kinda ditched after David comes to get Javier. Hell, the fact that he's the one who forced her to stay isn't even brought up outside of the Previously on Segment and there's not even any vitriolic banter between the two.
So glad I kept Conrad alive. I knew it would work out.

Which made you feel like I was going to say shit to you. Dammit, I hope I'll get free time to watch Breaking Bad because it's a very beloved TV series.
So annoyed that Conrad died during my episode. I wanted to give him the gun but I miss clicked (dumb I know) and then he died and I thought, eh it's telltale, so that probably would've happened anyway. Turned out I was wrong. Shit XD
I'm glad to hear that Conrad wasn't shoved aside like every previous determinant character. It's just a shame they decided to do that for a person who's dead for 90% of people. But at least it seems like Telltale finally realized people like when saving certain character actually somewhat matters and we can hopefully expect similar instances like that in the future episodes and installments. If only Nick or Sarah got that treatment. sniff
But my main problem still lies with Clementine. Her story seems really disconnected from everything that is going on and it's becoming more and more apparent that she's in the game just as a fan service. Shame that her personality stays always the same no matter what choices you made in the past seasons, that might somehow justify her presence, but alas... Kinda makes me wish they just did a Javier spin-off instead.
Dialogue was a bit cheesy at times and I've noticed some technical errors, but nothing too disconcerting. Overall, it was an alright episode, certainly better than the first 2 episodes (which isn't saying much, mind you) and a step in the right direction. 7.5/10
Agreed. I was a little confused when Clem didn't seem at all fazed after I let Conrad capture her. I at least expected her to act a little cold towards Javi
Just finished the episode. (I know, I'm late.)

I think that's why this is frustrating though, because even though you could choose the most platonic options when talking to or about Kate, it can be construed or interpreted by the other characters and even Javi himself as if he was secretly in love with her, which is definitely not how I intended to play his character. I guess, for me it wasn't obvious that he had a thing for Kate, but instead, the game so far is making it out to be that way.

Yeah I eventually looked it up on YouTube but no one made that choice so it took me a year to find it. I guess them kicking her out makes sense because the vial broke but it still looks odd.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. I was thinking the same thing. I just hope you can keep it on the down low if you make the right choices and not get into a huge brawl with David... or worse.
I totally agree, this episode was great! While we're on the topic of character development though (I bet some people noticed this), remember when Clem threatened Javi when David was on the other side of the door? She said something along the lines of "Don't you dare let that F***king Babykiller in!". Back in Season 2, Episode 5, that's exactly what Kenny called Jane in their big fight! It's so cool to see those little traces of influence in Clementine's character.
Hmm I wonder if she says that regardless, or only if you didn't kill Kenny in season 2.
Either way, I must've forgotten that. That's cool! Her going nuts on the walkers earlier in the episode with the baseball bat also reminded me of Kenny letting his anger out on the walkers with the crowbar in season 2.

I was referencing why I shot him. I'll go against my gut and agree with Conrad to see what he does in coming episodes.

I was thinking to execute Badger as Javi, but since Conrad's there. I let him do the honor.
I thought so as well. I still remember the moment with Sarah? So I chose my Javi not to hug her. I regret it, if I'd have knowm...

I just hated her.
And I hated Jane.
Jane avatar.
Of fucking course.
Yeah, that actually makes it easier to digest, for some reason.
Useless is at least subjective, but bitch is definitely 100% wrong.

You know, it's really depressing that you can get away with saying "it doesn't mean they should've Sarah'd him."
Still, I'm glad they made a huge improvement. As I hoped they would.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Her hat killing curse is getting hard to suppress, she just got possessed there for a sec, don't tell anyone.
I love that pause before he speaks.

Just finished the episode. (I know, I'm late.)

Something tells me that the whole Javi/Kate thing is probably a plot device meant to cause some kind of rift or conflict with David later.
I think that's why this is frustrating though, because even though you could choose the most platonic options when talking to or about Kate, it can be construed or interpreted by the other characters and even Javi himself as if he was secretly in love with her, which is definitely not how I intended to play his character. bah, that's what they get for their clementine bias.
I don't really care what they think.
Unfortunately, you're probably right. I was thinking the same thing. I just hope you can keep it on the down low if you make the right choices and not get into a huge brawl with David... or worse.
I wanted to push Javier down a darker path, not into a bad guy... but you know, a hardened badass. So I bashed his brains in.
Nooooo perhaps he will be fixed up by Lingard!
Same type of wound of Kate.
I just wanted to do the worst possible thing to badger
