Everything wrong with ANF ep3

First of all credit, where credit is due. I really liked that Conrad stayed for a whole episode whitout accidents, if you did not kiil him.
Unfortunately it all goes down hill from this point.

  • The episode was very thin and kind of short. We didn't get a single area, where we could go around and explore, and talk to characters. The only thing we got, was 30 seconds of getting into the warehouse.

  • They might as well have skipped all of the choices in this episode. None of them have any actual impact on the story. Most disappointing of them all was the final choice, where the only diffrence between leaving and staying is like 4 lines of dialogue
The only meaningfull choice you get to make is to kill Max or keep him alive. And it doesn't even make sence. a) you need him to prove your accusations against Joan b) he was actually against a lot of the stuff, there was done to you in episode 1 and 2.

Feel free to add more to this list:)

  • Damn right.Telltale is short-sighted.Why won't they just sleep for several years and release something astonishing that live to its standards. After S3 I'm definitely not buying any game from tt.

  • regarding hubs : we need to respect telltale's vision in not including them, its not an oversight. its intentional. they're going for a more cinematic approach. a choice they're making moving forward.. do the fans like it? NO. do the fans want it? YES. are they going to make it a priority? NO. should we expect it moving forward? NO. we need to understand while critiquing lack of hubs that it is not an oversight but a decision and a vision they have for episodes moving forward, they included it in EP2 but it was severely lacking and was basically collecting stuff to move forward and not about building relationships and connections.. idk what to say about this, but I don't think we should expect this to be as deeply implemented as it was in TWD S1. #SAD.

at this point I don't care about the cast really, only clementine and AJ. Javier also, but that's about it. so I feel ANF failed to make me care, which is rare considering EVERY telltale game had gripped me one way or another, some I loved, some I loathed. but I never hated them, ANF managed to be the one I hated. not because it was unplayable but it lacked soul. every character in ANF seemed recycled and uninspired, main plot is rushing to go forward. its all about the detours in life and ANF was moving in such a pace I was not fully taking all the beauty of it. so yeah... I doubt anyone would read all of what I said but I hope you enjoyed ANF more than I did anyway.

  • A lot of people haven't noticed this but if you disagree with Clementine throughout ep 1 and 2, she stills goes on about how Javier is the only person she trusts and still seems to like him. Maybe this is another example of choices not mattering.

I don't have to respect that vision, I agree that we shouldn't expect hubs because they obviously don't care about feedback that goes against their own ideas. But those hubs are esential to becoming immersed in the experience of these stories.

It may be their vision, but in this case their vision is wrong, as a fan I feel it would be doing telltale a disservice by not emphatically telling them how wrong they are in this respect. This hurts their game, it hurts the story and it hurts the enjoyment their fans get from their games.

  • I don't know if it's correct to say that the fans want less hubs. If they wanted it then surely Telltale wouldn't be getting all this criticism. I never wanted it or like it anyway.

  • I only have two complaints about the episode (that I really enjoyed btw):

    • The game forcing the love triangle between David/Kate/Javi on you even if you've been rejecting Kate the whole time (this is really, really bothering me).

    • The ending felt kinda... cheap.. I guess I expected more than a black screen with a few gunshots as a cliffhanger. I felt like it was Amid The Ruins 2.0. if I'm being honest. And I know neither David or Joan will die (that'd be dumb to kill them so fast, seeing it from a writing point-of-view) so I think that was unecessary. I like the other ending better but I got the gunshots ending. Oh well, must be karma for killing poor Max haha.

  • In her final scene she can determinantaly tell Javi that his Instincts are mostly right. No matter how shitty he is to her.

  • Yeah that was it. A bit ridiculous to me since he can sell her out to NF and make it clear that he isn't really fond of her (something we should give the game credit for I guess)

  • I did not say the fans wanted less hubs but the opposite, but we talked about it here too much and telltale's vision with their products does not help. now I try to be less hyped and not hope too much

  • Am I the only one here that I expected a video?

  • My apologies lol, was pretty tired when I typed that. Anyway Telltale seem to think that shorter episodes is what fans wanted so they could complete the episodes in one sitting. Pretty misguided if you ask me.

  • GCN must be doing that after releasing Mass Effect 2 and Andromeda.

Am I the only one here that I expected a video?

  • Me too. There'll be one soon, I hope.

Oh, hush. We all know people here who say that here are full of it. You'll buy another game from them in the future, don't lie.

  • Consider the other side of the coin; in S2, with hubs AND cincematics, you got 1.5-2h. In S1 you got 2-3h with way more hubs than cinematics. In S3, you get 1.5h solely with cinematics; which results in more plot happening than, let's say, in hubs.
If you like that or not is up to you though. It's a different approach, not an oversight. So I'd say E3 is an improvement over E1 and 2 (which both would be E1 actually).

    It's still true.

    • Lack of puzzles and hub areas: This game is turning slowly into a cutscene where you only get to choose what dialogue is said by Javi. I want to explore the areas and I want to solve a puzzle. Its better for anyone. With puzzles and hubs you see a part of the story, and then you get a rest to think better about what is going on. There are no puzzles, so you get story, and more story and even more story without any rest, and that is confussing sometimes.

    • Choices from prevoius seasons to have a bigger impact on Clementine: I think its a good thing that we play as Javi, because I dont see Clementine making choices like killing Badger like that and executing Max or not. But the choices from previous season should make her a different character. I have played three times and saw many gameplays and the Clementine for those who left Sarah, killed Kenny and went with Jane is the same Clementine for me (saved Sarah, did not kill Kenny and stayed with him).

    • More character development: If you played episode 3 you know what I'm talking about here.

    • Longer episodes: You have 2 playable characters Telltale, I dont see how it's possible that an episode where you play as Lee is longer than an episode where you play as Javier and Clementine. We should see the story from two different points of view instead of just one. Where Clementine and Javier split up, we should start playing with Clementine. That could fix episode lenght and character development, and would calm down the people who ask more Clementine screen time. Javier could take 4 or 3 choices and Clementine 1 or 2. Like I said before, I dont see Clementine taking the decisions that Javi has to make, but that does not mean that she is incapable to take any.

I liked episode 3, but I know that you (Telltale) can do better than that. If you had been more careful with these things in ATL, it would be on my top 5.

  • This is what i keep saying.

Telltale is a sinking ship these days. They don't know or don't care or make the effort to make a decent game anymore. Just compare this shit to Season 1? That game was out of this world for me! The only issues i had back then was the laggy cutscenes and glitches that plagued the game but at the same time some of them were hilarious but it was all bearable. That game was made with such class and you could see the work they put into it. We got 2 hours+ gameplay, plenty of hubs to examine, items to pick up, funny lines Lee would say when clicking some hubs, we could interact with the characters to get background info on them, ask them various questions which sometimes added optional choices that carried over to different episodes depending on what you say, these choices didn't matter like the main ones but they were a nice touch! We don't get puzzles or optional side quests like feeding people candy bars, fixing the swing at the St John's etc. I thought Season 2 was awful for it's lack of quality compared to season 1 but this new game is a million times worse than season 2 even!

  • I... shouldn't be laughing so much.

  • Are you sure about that? I'm definitely done with them after S3. I'm not buying their games anymore - I'm going to start to watch them on YouTube. No difference anyway. You will just see their sales figures drop and drop.
