Oh boy, someone is getting involved in something that doesn't involve them. It's not called being defensive it is called being right and at times being a smart ass.
Well pardon me for my expectations, but a single episode in Season 1 is longer than two single episodes in ANF combined. They released episode 1 & episode 2 claiming that it would have been too big.
Clearly these developers have not played Season 1.
What about playing as Clementine? What about the immediate deaths of all characters Clementine was with to force a bullshit plot into the game? Heck you get five minutes with these characters, they aren't even spread along in episode 2 or episode 3. Job is claiming that there will be more of your S2 EP5 endings (IIRC), I'm guessing we'll see another one in episode 4 that's MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE six minutes long.
You failed to see the "they" in that sentence.
Nope, not false advertisement. They didn't say what length the episodes would be in the tr… moreailer, they barely gave any content away in the trailer or screen shots. A lot of people just over-analyzed things. Big doesn't mean long, but it could mean that it's culminating into something big. Or it could mean it involved certain things to make it big (given that there's a cameo).
We shouldn't keep expecting this degradance throughout each season. I'm hoping that, if there is a Season 4, it won't be something like 30 minutes for each episode and then releasing the first three episodes at the same time because 'it was too big'
Let's be real, twdg was terrible since s2, I'm shocked people around here still try to defend it. ANF has some of the same exact problems s2 had, episodes are too short, choices don't mean anything, no hubs, boring deaths for shock value.

Complaining about length? Do you even know why S1 was so great? It was because they could fit all of this interesting and jam packed content into each episode. There was actual character development, you felt emotions towards those who actually CHOSE to care about!
ANF's first and second episodes are only sixty minutes long while a normal S1 episode is around TWO HOURS, how can you expect to care about something or someone when there is BARELY enough time for character development AND plot development? I have a series that so far has sixty seven episodes and I try as much as possible to squeeze in as much as possible for each episode that the game allows me to and people love this type of doing.
People should've expected their deaths? What the fuck kind of writing is that shit? WHERE THE FUCK WAS THE CONTINUATION? Five fucking minutes of this shit? This is clearly the kind of shit that makes choices NOT MATTERING. Heck, you could have made the flashbacks where in every single episode with at least a respectable amount of time where you're ACTUALLY with those characters and trying to survive. The second and third flashbacks ARE PUSHING TOWARDS ANF, you're trying to defend five minutes of deaths that could have been worked on for two years? I think I could do better than this shit MYSELF.
You're only alone because it SEEMS like you've lowered your expectations. That or they were already very low to begin with.
Now you're just complaining about the length.

I think I'm kinda alone when I say that I am alright with what TTG did with ANF.
They weren't low at all, they were fairly average. I just prepared myself to expect the unexpected, and it payed off.
Also; 3 f-bombs in three consecutive sentences. And 4 'shits' (two of them being consecutive). Language, much?
Season 1 was great. So was season 2. And ANF, although it has its perks, is pretty great so far as well. Time doesn't matter, and this is no longer Kenny or Janes' stories. All of the characters in seasons 1-2 had their stories, now it's time for a change.

How weren't they low? They essentially killed off all the characters that Clementine is with (refraining AJ because no matter what they're always with Clementine). For how important these characters were, it's defintely an insult. They had the chance to make your choices matter here, really, they did.
We've been with Kenny for two seasons, he just dies straight away, we see that AJ has grown up... There could have been a story inbetween this. Hey, maybe they're saving this for EP 4 & 5, which hopefully isn't any lesser than 30 minutes (and thats pushing it right there). There isn't any satisfying conclusion towards Kenny's death, I (and a lot of other people) can't get over the fact that they had two years of planning on this and they choose the easiest/cheapest way imaginable, they could've at the very, very least made these flashbacks worthy of more screen-time, but no. Telltale Games management somehow thought it would be okay to go with something that they knew would piss off the fans and if they didn't know, then management is incompetent.
Jane, you can let the family in or not. Should have been a major decision, turned into one line of dialogue change. Absolutely pointless unless they, yet again, have us see the family in EP 4. EP 5 through a flashback with acceptable screen-time. I personally doubt we'll see them due to how TTG management is ATM. Jane kills herself no matter what. Basically she was dumb and let Luke have sex with Jane without protection, oh well right? She left a 13 year old girl to fend for herself with a baby, pretty disgusting IMO, they hey, we'll use the sex excuse to kill Jane off to advance the plot!
Wellington, We get to see the New Frontier..... Erm... Okay lol? What happened with Wellingtons overpopulation/security? How did they siege Wellington with their freaking walls? Uh.... Who were the people in Wellington? Why does Edith go straight for Clementine when the New Frontier show up? Are there no other kids younger than Clementine? Did the New Frontier killed 99% of the Wellington population? So many questions left unanswered. Unless EP4/EP5 reveals more info on this situation and even then I doubt even half of these will be answered. This is one of the most lack-luster choices I have ever seen in a video game to date. The mystery of Wellington is still a mystery because almost nothing was answered, you don't even get to see their leaders or even let Wellington to be a hub I mean... Come on... Really? You're defending this?
The alone ending... No one is alive, easily the best flashback on this list IMO, that doesn't make it great. Telltale didn't need to do anything here, all they had to do was bridge the S2 EP5 gap between ANF.
Also; 3 f-bombs in three consecutive sentences. And 4 'shits' (two of them being consecutive). Language, much?
Oh, and that language and cap text? I did that because you posted massive text, I think it's fair.
P.S, expecting everyone aside from the main characters to die is terrible writing

So I suppose every season we go into it should be a new story instead of further progressing choices in a choice based game? Absolutely disagree here. If they wanted to market a new story, they shouldn't add continuations which they did, which is also false advertising.

Here are my reasons:
* Episode length
* No character development
* Clementine being part of Javier's story
* Season 2 Endings don't … moremean jack shit
* Lies we were told (Episode 1 was too big so it had to be split in two, 42 versions of Clementine are in ANF, biggest season so far, Clementine is a co-playable character)
* Comic book references (Jesus is the only comic character we met and they made me lose my interes on him)
* Lack of hubs and exploring areas
* Full of plot holes (If you spare him, Rufus, the truck driver, somehow knows that Clementine was the one who stopped the truck; Tripp is nice to a stranger he just met and doesn't blame him for the fall of Prescott; Max says the ambulance gas belongs to him when that ambulance is completely broken and useless)
* Meaningless choices (No matter who you go with at the junkyard, it will always be daytime; no matter how you try to prevent trouble, Francine dies and Prescott falls… [view original content]
I didn't buy the new Guardian's game. This season at least taught me what Telltale is becoming. They want more and more customers with the least amount of effort.
Dude most of us are still waiting around because a) we got suckered into buying the season pass and b) we want to see if Telltale will own u… morep to this lackluster season and try to redeem themselves.
To say that the angry and disappointed reactions (which are completely justified btw) means that we actually just secretly love the season is complete bullshit.
I dont think any continued story of S1 can be an improvement or even match it at this point. In very brief, S1 was so good because it was a fresh slate, not just for TWD IP, but because Lee was a fresh slate, his history effectively wiped clean, it made the character very easy to get into. The choices you made really defined his character even if it had little bearing on actually events, the player was the one reacting.
S2 and S3 both impose major assumptions and histories upon the player. S2 assumes you care about Kenny and can relate to being an 11 year old girl, while S3 imposes very strong family relations and histories. S1 only really made the assumption that you cared about Clementine, which the writers tried to make as easy as possible by giving her cute dialogue and making her smart and polite.
In terms of categories,
Story: Seems to be a marked improvement over Season 2, as well as the writing in general. There actually seems to be a story... developing, one which has different sides and views that make it very interesting. S2 however was very black and white, Carver bad, everyone else good, Ep.4 and 5, I like Kenny, or I dont. Reflecting on it, it largely seemed like a bunch of wandering around, while S1s journey was what TWD was always originally about, the relationships between people living in a zombie apocalypse and how they would react. It has the same problem as S2 in that it is also trying to run at a breakneck speed though.
Gameplay: While the story is obviously the most important thing in a game like this, it still needs to be playable. Going back to S1, it was OK in S1, the QTEs and forcing you to click on objects accurately created a lot of tension. S2 added pointless features that added nothing to gameplay. Whoo... theres now swiping and arrow key actions... These are minor complaints, but if youre just adding things for the sake of it that are neither fun nor engaging, why add them at all? TNF actually made gameplay worse surprisingly, I no longer feel any tension in the action sequences, it seems like i just press 1 button and everything just happens automatically and Im just watching, Im not on my toes anymore, Im just laying back.
Hubs: That thing everyone wanted and asked for after S2? Yep, lets not do that. Another thing that made S1 so much more engaging and like you were in control was choosing to engage with different people and being able to explore a space on your own.
Thats all I can think of specifically when compared to the other 2 seasons. While gameplay is quite a bit worse, the main point is the story, which is markedly improved from the rather dull story of S2.
To be fair, I'm not sure I can relate to being an 11 year old girl any more than I can relate to being a 40 year old professor. The first two seasons did at least give us a rather blank slate to forge relationships with the characters and ultimately decide where we'll stand with them, ANFs story is so ridiculously contrived and filled with heavy handed caricatures its hard to even compare it to the first two seasons, which felt much better put together and less reliant on action sequences and exposition.

You sweet summer child, I'll tell you why ANF is hated so much. I personally don't like it because it didn't manage to make me CARE about the characters. That worries be a great deal because, come on, this is TELLTALE's The Walking Dead we're talking about! What's s3 got it going on in terms of choices: shag/don't shag that thirsty hoe Kate = become Shane 2.0 and have your brother castrate you, kill/don't kill Conrad, HOW to kill Badger etc. What is this madness?!
Every single one of these characters can kiss my bottom because I haven't connected with them at all.
So your connected to a character which hasn't actually been developed what so ever in the season unless you obviously saw him in the comics however I suppose you are referring to the game so yeah I don't understand your logic

Except Jesus. He iz kool tho
Episode length: The episodes are insanely short. Episode 1 from S1 is longer than the first two episodes of ANF combined. TT saying that they had to split the first episode since it was so long is complete nonsense.
Extremely limited gameplay: Remember in S1 when you could walk around the motel area to feed/talk to people, or when you were at the St. John's place and could build a swing for Duck? Moments like these are almost non-existent. Seriously, in EP3 the only time you can move around as Javi is when you're trying to open up the garage door (plus with the time limit you can't really interact with the others).
No puzzles: S1 had enjoyable puzzle segments such as turning off the St. John's generator or starting up the train. For ANF, you basically just have to click whatever you see in front of you. No effort required. S2 also had this problem but it's much worse in ANF.
Choices don't mean anything: This can apply to every TT game ever, but after all these years no TT game better represents this than ANF. Choose to hit the road in EP1, and the scene with Max and Lonnie plays out exactly the same. Make your Clem a kind/mean person in S2, and it'll change one or two lines at most. Surrender yourself to save Francine, and she'll still die. Choose not to follow Ava in Clem's EP2 flashback, she'll still end up joining the NF. Tell Joan about Mari's death or keep it to yourself, and you'll still get kicked out. Choose to be rude to Clem, sell her out in Prescott, leave her at the junkyard, sell her out to Conrad, call her a trouble-maker, and she'll STILL be nice to you because the game demands it. At least in S1 Kenny would be more aggressive to you if you didn't agree with him (hating you at the end of EP2/start of EP3, not following you to find Clem). Don't get me wrong, just about every other TT game had this problem (S2 in particular had a lot of pointless choices) but after 2 years you'd think they'd improve on this.
So many lies from TT: "42 Clementines," "the biggest WD game over." I could go on.
Episode 1 flashbacks: This has been talked about to death so I won't really touch it, but man were these flashbacks terrible. After nearly 5 years of knowing Kenny, he is killed off in probably the dumbest way possible. Not to mention Kenny, Jane, and Edith's character models look laughably bad (they look like generic NPCs dressed up as their respective characters).
Choices are very one-sided: I love TT games with difficult choices so I can see what other choices people made and why. The choices with Clem are extremely biased, since everyone is going to side with the character they've known for 2 games. For example, a crazy guy is threatening to murder my nephew unless I sell out the character I've known and loved for many years for a plan that obviously won't work. Gee, I wonder if I should agree with him or not. How about trusting the character who I know is cool based off of the comics [Jesus]? Or better yet, a lying scumbag tried to attack me and I have the option to sell Clem out for it. There is a reason why roughly 95% of players chose to cover Clem for this choice.
New characters are uninteresting: Since the game is moving so fast we barely have time to know these characters. Javi is ok though I wish we knew more about him. Kate is your love interest even if you don't like her at all. David is cool though knowing TT they'll most likely make it where he hates you no matter what. Tripp is just Kenny 2.0, Eleanor will set free the new guy who just came to Prescott who was involved with a murder. Mariana seemed to have a lot of potential though unfortunately Badger put an end to that. Also after essentially causing Prescott's demise, Tripp refers to Javi as "the boss." REALLY?!?!
Clem is just... there: The way I see it, they could have either made Clem a second playable character (no those 5 minute flashbacks don't count) or just not have her at all. TT chose to have Clem just be there, resulting in me not really caring about everyone else. They could have done something interesting with Clem as another character, such as unique puzzles or choices about going against Javi and his family. Seriously, I'd kill most of the new characters in this game just to keep Clem or AJ alive.
There's pretty much no gameplay at this point anymore. I know its a point and click so there isn't much to begin with anyway but at least the first season had puzzles and hub worlds. Now we just have walking forward to the next scene until something happens and watch a movie with barley any input. Thanks to the lack of hubs we can't even talk to the characters and establish a connection with them at all. Its lame and feels lazy. I wouldn't mind waiting longer for episodes to be released if TT just put more time into them.

To say that the angry and disappointed reactions (which are completely justified btw) means that we actually just secretly love the season is complete bullshit.
Have you ever thought about the fact that we have gotten a fuckton of lies pre-release causing people to pre-order and buy the Season Pass? Steam denied me a refund so I'll have to play through the rest HOPING it will improve.
It is and the only reason most of us are sticking around is because we already purchased the season pass, the story is bad, most of the new cast is bad and I honestly couldn't care less about Javi and his shitkicking family.
The Walking Dead is Telltale's best series especially the seasons one and two, but the three has left to be desired, lacking emotion as in seasons one and two. One thing that Telltale was right on the fly was to make Clementine a playable character, because if it was only Jave it would be a major stumble of Telltale because for me, Clementine after Lee is the best character of all Telltale series, The good and bad things of the third season, I still think it's a great game just to have Clementine taking part and that it lasts until the end of Telltale's Walking Dead series

Exactly this, in S1 the St.John dairy (and the Motel) had tons of extra choices and dialogue in a single hub where you could expand on your characters relationships more. Removing hubs is taking a step back in the wrong direction.

Length - Supposedly, the first episode was so big that they had to split it into two episodes, but evidently, together they are the size of only one episode from the previous seasons, not only that but even the newer episodes are rather short in comparison to past Telltale projects and it gives fans a reason to worry as it's basically ripping them off (especially here in NZ where ANF is more expensive than GOTG - which has it's first episode near the length of the first two of ANF, which is ridiculous!).
Game-play - There seems to be less game-play than we had before, puzzle solving is gone, side quests are practically gone, we just get frequent QTEs. Now we have Guardians of the Galaxy which gives us new forms of game-play (hovering, communication and even new combinations for QTEs).
Story/Clementine's Place - The story, in my opinion, is pretty decent at least, however, allot of people seem to dislike that Clementine has taken a backseat to it despite being told otherwise prior to the game's release, not only that but the franchise was built around Clementine's story (or at least they revolved around her heavily), and the third season changed that by presenting her as a stranger to the main character and that can affect immersion for some as they find themselves choosing decisions that are in favor of Clementine rather than the Javier. In a way, to some people, it felt like she was shoved into the story for fan service.
Decisions, decisions, decisions - Decisions still have no or too little consequences, the few that do don't seem to have that much of an affect on the story, even in comparison to some of the previous titles. What's worse is that they boasted about how Season 2's decisions would affect A New Frontier with different Clementines and our endings coming into play, however... the characters we wanted to live in Season 2 all died and Clementine and AJ both always come back alive with an injury or tattoo being the only consistent consequences of those decisions and I don't think anyone even talks about them? Not only that but the Wellington ending is the most disappointing, it was hyped up for the entirety of Season 2 and now in ANF we see it easily overtaken by a group of about 10 or a bit more people.... it kind of makes the decisions in the past pointless.
Request Granted? - One thing they did right was the return of hubs, and there sure are allot of them, just one problem is that there are practically no conversations, nothing to actually do, at least optionally, in those hubs unlike the previous seasons.
I know some people think it's unfair to compare, but I think it's critical to do so.
I think what Plan_R was trying to get at is don't trust reviewers from allot of sites that sing ANF's praises because they could just be doing that for views, thus more revenue and to please the company that keeps giving them review copies of games for free. Whilst I personally think Youtubers are significantly more trustworthy, they could be doing the same as many websites do, which is lie and benefit from it.
Reviewers write for clicks, you get more clicks when your positive, dont trust reviews. Same with Youtubers.
So basically don't listen to people that have a different opinion? Good advice :P
1- Episode 1&2 SHOULD'VE BEEN 1 EPISODE.
They're so short and nothing really happens until like the end I was really dissapointed after finishing them.
2- Now listen i've always known Kenny/Jane are 100% gonna die in S3... But not like this. Literally they're only now adding some more flashbacks for them.
3- Every character from previous seasons (except Clem and Aj) have ugly models. I've been saying since day 1 that I don't want to see how Lee looks lol.
4- Ok I get that Tripp is a nice guy and all but like I play Ep3 and he trusts me like he know me from weeks/months??? in an apocalypse and 4 years into it that's really unrealistic.
5- No character development. I like most characters but I can't pretend we're about to have ep4 without me feeling attached to most of them.
6- W H E R E I S M Y C L E M E N T I N E ?
I like Javi so much but s3 would've been so much better if both him AND Clementine were playable all the time.
I have to disagree about the hubs. We have two in Episode 1, one in Episode 2, and a time limited "hub" in Episode 3 which amounted to finding a way to open the garage door. Season Two had some more hubs than ANF, but not really dialogue options like in Season One, Season One did it very well, with multiple dialogue choices, etc.
I think if TTG handles/keeps handling hubs like they do in ANF, they can leave them out altogether, because they are just used as a stopper (unlike S1 and S2).
Though I am not saying that leaving out hubs is entirely bad. If we get story/cinematics all the way, that would compensate for the lack of hubs since that means more plot, but then again less information and bonding. It's a dicey trade-off.
There are a multitude of reasons:
* Length - Supposedly, the first episode was so big that they had to split it into two episodes, but … moreevidently, together they are the size of only one episode from the previous seasons, not only that but even the newer episodes are rather short in comparison to past Telltale projects and it gives fans a reason to worry as it's basically ripping them off (especially here in NZ where ANF is more expensive than GOTG - which has it's first episode near the length of the first two of ANF, which is ridiculous!).

I think more hubs would be better to be honest, apart from that I really want more side questing, not sure if there are really any in ANF but I remember things like Nick's Watch in S2 and the Animal Cracker for Duck in S1, which were available thanks to hubs, if they only focus on plot and removed hubs, that takes away an important aspect of game-play imo, which is why I personally enjoyed Guardians allot more.
I have to disagree about the hubs. We have two in Episode 1, one in Episode 2, and a time limited "hub" in Episode 3 which amounted to findi… moreng a way to open the garage door. Pft, typical defensive talk.

I get that, but bigger a deeper hole isn't the way to go.
Hey, at least I know I'm right. I always tell myself that when Inget into arguments and the other person won't believe me.
If they wanted to market a new story, they shouldn't add continuations which they did, which is also false advertising.
the fact that there is less clem is not the reason people are screaming false advertising settle down
Well maybe you're right in YOUR mind. At least try to respect other peoples OPINIONS.
I think the 3rd episode of New Frontier didn't have one single hub area. We are in a freaking city, if we can't have a hub area there, then when ?
I didn't buy the new Guardian's game. This season at least taught me what Telltale is becoming. They want more and more customers with the least amount of effort.
I do respect your opinion.
I am calm. I don't get why people always assume I'm not....
To be fair, I'm not sure I can relate to being an 11 year old girl any more than I can relate to being a 40 year old professor. The first two seasons did at least give us a rather blank slate to forge relationships with the characters and ultimately decide where we'll stand with them, ANFs story is so ridiculously contrived and filled with heavy handed caricatures its hard to even compare it to the first two seasons, which felt much better put together and less reliant on action sequences and exposition.
yeap
nah
You sweet summer child, I'll tell you why ANF is hated so much. I personally don't like it because it didn't manage to make me CARE about the characters. That worries be a great deal because, come on, this is TELLTALE's The Walking Dead we're talking about! What's s3 got it going on in terms of choices: shag/don't shag that thirsty hoe Kate = become Shane 2.0 and have your brother castrate you, kill/don't kill Conrad, HOW to kill Badger etc. What is this madness?!
Every single one of these characters can kiss my bottom because I haven't connected with them at all.
Except Jesus. He iz kool tho
So your connected to a character which hasn't actually been developed what so ever in the season unless you obviously saw him in the comics however I suppose you are referring to the game so yeah I don't understand your logic
Clem needs more fucking screen time! Javi is interesting but He ain't shit compared to clemmy
Dude/dudette this season is atrociously bad and far too many probs to list
Everything new is hated. Everything old is a classic. Welcome to the internet.
lol
lol
It is and the only reason most of us are sticking around is because we already purchased the season pass, the story is bad, most of the new cast is bad and I honestly couldn't care less about Javi and his shitkicking family.
Can't really make a decision yet but I have to say Season 1 is still my favorite.
Because the pacing sucks, flashbacks everywhere, cliches and the characters development just doesn't... develop.
And the choices are really not that hard as they used to be.
I still don't get the graphics change, didn't really fixed the primary things this company is mainly "focused and famous for".
I forgot to tell you that Clementine really needs to have more time on the screen.
Exactly this, in S1 the St.John dairy (and the Motel) had tons of extra choices and dialogue in a single hub where you could expand on your characters relationships more. Removing hubs is taking a step back in the wrong direction.
There are a multitude of reasons:
I know some people think it's unfair to compare, but I think it's critical to do so.
I think what Plan_R was trying to get at is don't trust reviewers from allot of sites that sing ANF's praises because they could just be doing that for views, thus more revenue and to please the company that keeps giving them review copies of games for free. Whilst I personally think Youtubers are significantly more trustworthy, they could be doing the same as many websites do, which is lie and benefit from it.
